I donāt think I can ever fully articulate the sense of helplessness and loss radiating off Yuno in the recent MV but hereās some of my thoughts. Beyond the obvious stuff of incorporating Mahiruās singing style, hairstyle, dress sense and whatnot, itās soā¦.. urgrhfjf. They became so very closeā¦
When Yuno says this (āā¦is there anything you need to say? Do you wanna complain? Iām all ears.ā) it fucking HURTS. I donāt know how accurate the translation is, but the attempts to inject casualness into her dialogue, to make it lightheartedā¦ to offer ācomplainingā as comfort of all things, it reads more like a teenage student than I think anything Yuno has been shown to do. Because this is how teenagers defuse situations; by asking their friends if they need to vent, to let loose the weight on their shoulders. This is quite literally girlhood.
And in the face of death itself, do you think Yunoās offering comfort the only way she knows how?? Thereās another side to this dialogue choice in particular, which is that Iād expect that a big part of being a girlfriend-for-hire is being a listener as the patron vents about their day-to-day. We know she probably never took them seriously. But here, sheās being completely genuine and sincere.
Yet Mahiru has nothing to talk about. Nearing her last moments, she addresses Yuno instead. To find love, in a way Mahiru herself couldnāt have in the end. Maybe thatās comfort enough.
In another life, maybe Yunoās helping Mahiru through a breakup and Mahiru is tearfully telling Yuno not to give up on love.
In another life, Yunoās wish to meet Mahiruās lovely boyfriend at the end of her T3 song might have come to fruition. As girlhood does.
