just a little reminder that requests are still OPEN, and Iâd love to receive some more Loâak, Neteyam or Jake requests! Especially Loâak cause thereâs not a lot of fics for him đđ
happy 20th bday to meeeeee đđȘ©
went to see AFAA for a second time to celebrate đ€
pregnancy headcanons
pairing: jake sully x reader
warnings: chaotic
set right after the first avatar film
okay so saying as reader takes neytiriâs place in this reality (and Iâm the creator of it so I get to decide), reader is already pregnant with neteyam during the final battle đ
after you tell Jake you are with child, he goes full protective mode
now, Jake can be a little harsh and strictespecially when he realises youâve been pregnant since he became part of the people, throughout the final battle etc.
the marine is still inside of him, itâll never leave, and heâs obviously used to human pregnancies on a broken Earth so he has reason I guess
he never expected to be a father, especially with the state Earth is in, so the news came as a shock. also itâs not all that easy for people to conceive on Earth, so he was more than surprised to hear you were pregnant after mating just once đ
now this protective mode heâs inâŠ: it would start with him asking Norm, Max and basically any of the scientists that got to stay, to run every possible test to see if the stress youâve been under hasnât just⊠terminated the pregnancy or put you or the baby at risk
you obviously refuse.
so he convinces Moâat to do whatever is possible to check your health, check on the baby etc.
you concede, but only because you can see how worried Jake is
naâvi pregnancies arenât all that different from human pregnancies I imagine, but obviously a six foot human has nothing on a 10 foot avatar
he thanks Eywa for the successful transition from his human to his avatar bodycause imagine him in the after life finding out he left you with a child
luckily we DONâT have to imagine that
anywayâŠitâs also a learning period for Jake (again), only this time he gets to know everything about naâvi pregnancy and birth, the community around it, how tasks shift whilst still being a useful member AND how to be Oloâeyktanyeah heâs under a lot of stress (as usual, wait till he finds out how much his second son resembles him)
heâd rather drop all his clan leader duties to look after you
cause donât think for a second youâre sitting still like he wants you to
no, your life stays the same (for now, till your centre of gravity shifts)
Jake is NOT happy with that, but youâre stubborn
at the beginning of your pregnancy he lets things slide, lets you carry your own stuff, keep your routine⊠you can still talk sense into him
you tell him how the baby survived the war in its first crucial moments (the prenatal phase is soo important â coming from a psychology student so I know my shit okay)
but as time goes by, his protectiveness grows
heâs lost so many people, youâve lost so many people. the trauma has been drilled into him
the changes in your body, in Jakeâs behaviour, it takes away part of your autonomy, which might be the hardest part of this whole pregnancy
Jake means well, he truly does
it just doesnât always come across that way
which puts a strain on your relationshipbut you persevere
he loves you so, so much and vice versa
the most important thing to remember is that he does everything out of his fierce love for you
the physical part of the pregnancy runs by smoothly
itâs a big adjustment tho
youâre young, full of life and energy
you have so much love to give too
you start spending more time with other clan members who are either pregnant or have had children to learn, to share experiences
itâs all about community
Jake learns to open up a bit more, to partake in the community
you best believe he would (very chaotically) prep for this baby: gathering materials you donât need, cause what does a naâvi baby even need?
just their mother and father
told you Jake has a lot to learn
this man was ready to build some sort of crib and other human baby equipment
it truly makes you laugh
youâre not laughing at him, he does it cause he cares and keeping busy is a way to distract him from all the worry, to make him feel useful as you carry and grow a whole baby
heâs just happy youâre happy, even if his limited knowledge on babies is the source of it
I feel like he also wouldnât even think about the gender of the baby till someone asks him what heâd prefer closer to the birth
and heâd be like â⊠right gender existsâ
and I think he honestly doesnât care, he just wants a healthy wife and baby (which is clichĂ© I know, but what else could you want?)
he genuinely just wants peace and happiness
his role as a mate also goes through changes
before, he was learning the way of the People
now, heâs one of them and learning how to take care of his female and very pregnant mate
itâs a whole culture in its own
kind of like the âproviderâ role partners took on on Earth, but still⊠different
he has no experience with either soâŠ
he just does what feels natural: getting up at dinner to get you (extra) food, bringing your favourite fruits home, braiding and unbraiding your hair every once in a while to freshen it up
but itâs not only acts of service, itâs also more affection
which is pretty foreign to him, but once he lets himself try it, it feels natural with you: holding you extra close in your hammock at night, hand on your belly
KISSES. KISSES. KISSES.
forehead kisses, kisses on the cheek/temple/lips/shoulder(blades)/stomach⊠literally anywhere
he learns to sense your needs and moods
some days you just need to be babied and other days he can just stay like.. ten feet away from you (which he physically canât, but oh well)
he starts praying to Eywa for a safe and painless delivery even though he never saw himself as a religious guy
that's something he learns more about as well: how Eywa protects the balance of life
it isn't AT ALL like religion back on Earth
let's just say this whole pregnancy is a big fat shock, a huge adjustment and an immense change
but he wouldn't trade you and his growing family for the world
okay, so my first time writing headcanons hahah
this is basically just... word and thought vomit my brain produced

A life full of surprises
pairing: jake sully x female!reader (no use of y/n)
summary: first pregnancy
word count: 1k
for @junebugonjupiter âs event đ«¶
Life is full of surprises. Thatâs what all the people back on Earth always said.
Jake always thought that was bullshit, until he didnât.
He never expected to take his brotherâs place in the Avatar Program. Never expected to travel to a distant moon humanity had turned to after destroying their own planet. Never expected to learn how to act and See like the natives. And he definitely never expected to fall in love with one of the Naâvi, let alone the Oloâeyktanâs daughter.
Turns out life is full of surprises after all. And it also turns out that life wasnât done with surprises just yetâŠ
Jake never saw himself as anything but a marine. A body built to follow orders and survive wars.
Caretaker was never a role he imagined for himself. Father even less so.
And yetâŠ
Here he was.
Seated on the woven floor of his self-made kelku, the bioluminescence of the forest bleeding in through the walls, your breathing slow and steady in front of him. One hand rested over the gentle curve of your stomach, reverent in a way that wouldâve surprised the man he used to be.
His mate. A daughter of the clanâs Oloâeyktan. And carrying his child.
Youâd expect sleep to be a rare occurrence after having a child, but for Jake it had started slipping away the moment he learned you were with child.
Your eyes flutter open slowly, the weight of another gaze already settled on your back. You sigh. âMa Jake,â you murmur, voice thick with sleep. âYou need to rest. You wonât get much once the babyâs born, especially since it is your child.â you tease.
Jake let out a soft huff that barely counts as a chuckle. âHowâd you sleep? he asks quietly, shifting closer now that youâre awake. âNot too uncomfortable?â
You nod, moving into his side once heâs beside you. âI am just fine.â You murmur, a content sigh slipping out as you curl into his arms.
Jake wraps his arms around you, his hand settling instinctively over your growing stomach.
âDo you have much work today?â you ask. Just because his mate is with child it doesnât mean the duties of an Oloâeyktan disappear.
âYeah,â he admits, âThe huntâs coming up⊠Weâve gotta prepare for that. He presses his face into your neck, placing a soft kiss on the skin. âIâll try to be back as soon as I can, baby. I promise.â
You whine softly. âMa Jake, you work too hard. BesidesâŠâ you pout, glancing back at him. âI miss you.â
Jake chuckles, warmth easing into his expression.
ââ§Â°đČÖŒđąâËê©ïœĄ
With Jake gone the forest felt wider. Quieter.
He means well, with his concern. You know that. Still, sometimes it presses in on you, heavy in a way you donât quite know how to name.
You occupied yourself the way you always had; moving through the clearing with familiar ease, fingers brushing over leaves, bending to gather what you needed. Pregnancy had slowed you, yes, but it hadnât taken you from yourself.
Still, maybe climbing onto one of the higher branches was pushing it.
Your balance had started to shift over the past few weeks. Your center no longer where it used to be, and you werenât fully used to it yet.
You were halfway through reaching for a cluster of tumpasuk (red-orange berry) when a familiar voice cut through the air.
âHey.â
You freeze. Slowly, you turn your head.
Jake stood at the edge of the clearing, bow slung over his shoulder, expression already torn between relief and frustration. His eyes flicked, not to your face, but to your feet, perched a little too high off the ground.
âBaby,â he says, softer now as he stepped closer. âWe talked about this.â
You sigh, rolling your eyes. âMa Jake, Iâm fine. Iâve climbed worse than this my whole life.â
He stops in front of you, hands already lifting, just in case. âThat was before you were carrying our kid.â
You laugh quietly, letting him help you down anyway. âYouâre acting like I will shatter.â
Jakeâs hands linger at your waist longer than necessary, his forehead resting against yours. âI know you wonât,â he murmured. âDoesnât mean I wonât worry.â
His palm slides to your stomach, thumb brushing a gentle arc over the curve there.
You soften instantly.
âIâm still me,â you said quietly.
Jake nodded, pressing a kiss to your temple. âI know. Just⊠let me be careful with you.â
You smiled. âOnly if you donât stop me from living.â
He huffed a laugh. âDeal.â
He doesnât move away right away. Instead, Jake stays there, forehead still resting against yours as if he needs the contact to ground himself. His thumb continues its slow, absent-minded path over your stomach, tracing the same curve again and again like heâs trying to memorize it.
Every now and then, his hand pauses. As if heâs waiting for something.
âYouâre thinking too loud,â you murmur, glancing up at him.
He huffs softly. âAm I?â
Before you can answer, thereâs a small, sudden pressure beneath his palm. Subtle, but unmistakable.
Jake stills. Completely.
You bite back a smile.
ââŠThere,â you say quietly.
His eyes flick down, wide for just a second before he catches himself. His hand presses a little flatter this time, like heâs afraid to miss it.
Another small kick follows, stronger than the last.
Jake lets out a breath that turns into a quiet laugh, shaking his head. âThatâsââ He cuts himself off, lips pressing together as he exhales again. âYeah. Okay.â
You laugh softly at him. âYou good?â
He nods, still staring at your stomach like it might do something incredible again at any moment. âYeah,â he says, voice low. âJust⊠still hard to wrap my head around.â
You lean into him, teasing gently, âCareful. Youâll start sounding sentimental.â
That earns you a real chuckle. âDonât push it.â But his hand doesnât move away.

I have two more requests for avatar in my inbox as of right now. I wanna get to those after my exams are over (so donât worry, theyâre coming eventually!!). I might write some self-indulgent blurbs in the meantime tho, so keep an eye out for that đđ„°
Hii, I see you're taking avatar requests! Can you write something angsty for jake sully x reader, maybe where jake thinks sunshine + badass!reader is reckless and pretends to hate her (but he secretly admires/loves her) and is constantly demeaning her. Reader loves jake and wants to impress him, but jake doesn't give her the time of day and is generally v mean to her. One day, it gets to a point where reader can't take his shit anymore and maybe sees a moment between neytiri and jake, and kinda retreats in on herself/distances herself from jake, and jake realizes something is wrong/he can't live wo her and grovels!
Edge of Reckless
pairing: jake sully x female!reader (no use of y/n)
summary: realizing whatâs been missing
word count: 3.3k
The first thing people noticed about you was how easily you smiled.
Not the polite, practiced kind meant to keep the peace, but a real one, wide and unguarded, the kind that came out when you were breathless from a run or laughing at your own mistakes. It followed you through the clan like a quiet warmth. You joked with other hunters as you passed them on the platforms, teased children when they tripped over their own tails, lingered with the healers longer than strictly necessary just to help grind herbs or hold a bowl steady while someone else worked. You were good with your hands, careful and gentle when the situation demanded it, and fearless when it didnât.
That fearlessness bled into everything else.
In training, you moved like the forest itself had taught you â fast, instinctive, always a step ahead. You didnât freeze when things went wrong. You adapted. When a raid shifted unexpectedly, you didnât wait for someone else to shout instructions. You leapt, scaled bark and vine with practiced ease, dropped behind the target with a grin already on your face as if the danger had never been anything more than a puzzle to solve.
âIt wasnât even trying,â you said afterward, breath coming fast, eyes bright as you leaned on your spear.
A few of the others laughed. Someone shook their head in disbelief.
You reached out without thinking, adjusting another hunterâs grip when their hands trembled, murmuring encouragement under your breath. Being good at this mattered to you. Being useful mattered. You wanted to be someone others could rely on.
You especially wanted him to see it.
Jake Sully stood just beyond the main group, arms crossed, posture rigid in a way that spoke of another life entirely. He watched everything, always did, but his gaze lingered on you longer than it should have. He told himself it was because you were unpredictable. Because recklessness, no matter how skilled, got people killed.
He didnât tell himself that your laugh made something in his chest tighten. He didnât tell himself that watching you move â confident, capable, alive â made him feel like he was losing his grip on something he couldnât name.
So when you laughed during drills again, flushed and joking as you dodged past a mock strike, when you broke formation by a half-second because you knew you could handle it, the irritation snapped sharp and fast.
âStop.â
His voice cracked across the clearing, cold and commanding.
Everything stilled.
You turned towards him, smile already fading as you took in his expression. It was hard and unreadable, all sharp edges. Something in your chest dipped, a small, instinctive warning.
âStep forward,â he said, eyes on you so you knew who he was talking to.
You obeyed, heart thudding as the attention of the entire group settled on you. You waited for instruction, ready to listen, because you always were. Feedback meant improvement. Correction meant someone cared enough to teach you.
âYou think this is a joke?â Jake asked.
âNo,â you said quickly. âI was justââ
âYou broke formation,â he cut in, stepping closer. âYou ignored my signal. You laughed like this was a game.â
Heat crawled up your neck. âI handled it. No one got hurt.â
âThatâs not your call,â he snapped.
His tone wasnât raised. It didnât need to be. It was worse for how controlled it was, for how deliberately he kept his voice steady while he dismantled you in front of everyone.
âThis isnât about you showing off,â he continued. âItâs not about how fast you are or how confident you feel. You donât get to decide that your life, or theirs, is expendable just because you think youâre good enough to outrun the consequences.â
You swallowed hard. âI wasnât trying to be reckless. I just wanted toââ
âEnough.â
The word landed like a blow.
âYou want to be a warrior?â Jake said. âThen act like one. Discipline matters. Orders matter. If you canât follow them, youâre a liability.â
A liability.
The clearing felt too open, too quiet. You could feel every pair of eyes on you, the weight of their attention pressing down until it was hard to breathe. This wasnât correction. This wasnât guidance. This was dismissal.
âYes, sir,â you said softly.
You stepped back into line, face carefully neutral, and finished the session without another word.
Jake told himself heâd done what needed to be done.
He didnât tell himself why his hands were shaking.
ââ§Â°đČÖŒđąâËê©ïœĄ
The rest of the day sat heavy in your chest.
You tried to shake it off while helping the healers that afternoon, grinding leaves and cleaning tools, but the words replayed over and over again until they lodged somewhere painful and immovable. Liability. Reckless. Youâd never minded correction before. You welcomed it. You wanted to be better, stronger and more capable, worthy of standing beside warriors like him.
That was the worst part.
You had been trying to impress him.
The realization made your stomach twist. Every extra risk youâd taken, every confident grin, every moment youâd pushed just a little harder than necessary, it had all been for him. To show him you could keep up. That you werenât just fun and laughter, that you were sharp and capable and equal.
And he hadnât seen it that way at all.
ââ§Â°đČÖŒđąâËê©ïœĄ
By the time eclipse settled over the village, the decision to apologize had grown heavy but inevitable. You hated that part of yourself, the one that always wanted to smooth things over, to make sure everyone was okay even when you werenât, but it won out anyway. You couldnât stand the idea of him thinking you didnât care. Of leaving things like that.
You rehearsed the words as you walked, palms damp, heart pounding. I understand. Iâll do better. I just wanted you to be proud.
You found him before you reached his kelku, slowing instinctively when voices carried through the soft evening air. At first, you thought you were imagining it, your mind already raw enough to invent new ways to hurt, but then you saw them clearly through the curve of the roots and hanging leaves. Jake was seated beneath one of the larger trees at the edge of the village, posture relaxed in a way you had never once seen during training. Neytiri sat across from him, her bow resting loosely across her knees, and Jake was kneeling in front of her, close enough that their knees nearly touched. His hands moved with quiet care as he adjusted a loose strap on her wrist guard, fingers precise, practiced, and unhurried. There was no sharp command in his voice when he spoke, no clipped authorityâonly something low and gentle, like he wasnât afraid of being heard.
âHold still,â he murmured, a softness there that made your chest tighten before you could stop it.
Neytiri laughed, warm and easy. âYou worry too much.â
âIâve seen what happens when things go wrong,â Jake replied, quieter still. âIâd rather stop it before it does.â
It was the same logic heâd thrown at you earlier that day, the same justification. But here, it sounded different. Protective instead of punishing. Concern instead of condemnation. Neytiri reached out without hesitation, brushing her thumb along his cheek in an easy, familiar gesture, and Jake leaned into the touch as if it were the most natural thing in the world. The tension you had grown used to seeing coiled in his shoulders simply wasnât there. He looked at her openly, fondly, like he trusted her to see him without the armor.
Something in you gave way.
You stood there longer than you should have, frozen at the edge of the clearing, your carefully rehearsed apology dissolving into nothing. You had been ready to humble yourself, to take responsibility for everything youâd done wrong â real or imagined â because you wanted him to understand that you cared, that you were trying. But watching him now, seeing proof that his harshness wasnât the only way he knew how to exist, made the hurt sharper. He could be kind. Patient. Gentle. Just not with you.
Your throat burned as you turned away, each step back toward your own kelku feeling heavier than the last. The decision not to go back â to training, to him â settled quietly but firmly in your chest before you ever consciously acknowledged it.
You didnât come to training the next day.
Or the day after that.
At first, you told yourself it was temporary. Just a few days to breathe, to let the sting fade until you could face him again without feeling like you were unraveling. You switched to another group, one that trained farther from Jakeâs usual territory, and filled the rest of your time with anything that kept you away from him. You spent long hours with the healers, sleeves rolled up, hands stained with crushed leaves and yalna, offering help before it could be asked for. The work was familiar and grounding; cleaning wounds, preparing salves, sitting quietly with those who needed reassurance more than words. Helping had always been part of who you were, another way to prove you mattered.
When even that wasnât enough, you went into the forest alone.
You moved fast, faster than you needed to, letting your body burn and your thoughts scatter as you ran and climbed and hunted without waiting for anyone elseâs pace. The recklessness that had once been playful sharpened into something edged with frustration, as if you were daring the world, or maybe yourself, to prove that Jake had been right all along. You came back scraped and sore more than once, brushing it off with a half-smile when anyone asked, insisting you were fine.
Your liveliness didnât disappear, not entirely. You still smiled when spoken to. Still laughed at the right moments. But it took more effort now, and the light behind it flickered.
Jake noticed your absence immediately.
He didnât call it concern. Not to himself. He framed it as routine when he scanned the clearing one morning and frowned at the empty space where you should have been. âWhere is she?â he asked, tone sharp, as if expecting a simple answer.
Someone hesitated before replying. âShe switched groups. Been helping the healers a lot. Goes out on her own sometimes.â
Jake scoffed, crossing his arms tighter over his chest. âFigures,â he said. âTell her she needs the practice.â
He said it like it didnât matter, like your absence was nothing more than an inconvenience. But the question came again the next day. And the day after that. Each time, the same answers. Each time, the same tightness in his jaw, the same restless edge that crept into his movements. Training felt harsher without you there, more rigid, stripped of something he hadnât realized he relied on. The clearing felt quieter, emptier, and no amount of discipline seemed to fill the space youâd left behind.
ââ§Â°đČÖŒđąâËê©ïœĄ
Days blurred into weeks.
When the first whisper reached him, that youâd gone out alone again, Jake brushed it off with a sharp exhale and a muttered excuse about you being capable enough to handle yourself. You always were. Too capable, if he was being honest. You moved through the forest with an ease that made others trust you instinctively, and that same ease was what had always unnerved him. You didnât hesitate. You didnât second-guess. You acted from instinct and heart, and those were things heâd trained himself not to rely on.
But the whispers didnât stop.
âShe went past the old battlefield this time,â someone mentioned later, casually, as if it meant nothing. âShe didnât say when sheâd be back.â âSheâs been doing that a lot lately.â
Each comment lodged itself somewhere unpleasant in his chest. He snapped more during training, barked orders faster, corrected mistakes that barely existed. Neytiri noticed. Others noticed. No one said anything, but the tension clung to him, thick and unrelenting.
By the time dusk began to bleed into the sky, Jake couldnât focus at all.
The image of you: mud-streaked hands, that determined little smile you always wore when you were trying too hard, kept intruding on his thoughts. He remembered how youâd looked at him during that last training session, eyes bright but careful, like you were waiting for something he never gave. Approval. Pride. Something warm. Heâd chosen discipline instead. Distance. Control.
And now you were gone into the forest alone, again, and for the first time, the thought didnât just irritate him.
It scared him.
He left without telling anyone.
The trail wasnât hard to find at first. Your steps were light but familiar to him, the rhythm of how you moved burned into his awareness after all that time training you. But the farther he went, the more signs began to twist his gut; broken foliage where youâd moved too fast, disturbed ground where youâd slipped, the faint smear of blood on a leaf that made his heart stutter painfully before he could stop it.
âNo,â he breathed, breaking into a run.
He found you just before full eclipse, the forest quiet in that dangerous way it got when something had gone wrong. A thick, fallen branch had collapsed awkwardly, pinning you at an angle that made his stomach drop. Blood darkened your side, soaking into the ground beneath you, your breathing shallow and uneven.
The fear hit him like a physical blow; sharp, overwhelming, undeniable.
âWhat the hell were you thinking?!â he shouted as he rushed forward, hands already straining against the branch, muscles screaming as he forced it aside. His voice cracked on the last word, anger and terror tangling so tightly he couldnât tell them apart.
You gasped as the pressure eased, pain flaring white-hot through your body. âGuess Iâm just reckless,â you muttered bitterly, the words slipping out raw and unguarded before you could stop yourself.
The word landed like a knife.
Jake froze for half a second. Just long enough for the weight of everything heâd said, every accusation, every sharp reprimand, to slam into him all at once. He dropped to his knees beside you, hands hovering uselessly for a moment before settling against your shoulders, trembling.
âDonât,â he said hoarsely. âDonât say that.â
You turned your face away, jaw tight, tears blurring your vision despite your efforts to hold them back. âYou did,â you whispered. âYou always do.â
Something inside him cracked.
âI was trying to keep you safe,â he snapped suddenly, frustration surging up like a last defense. âYou donât think I see how you throw yourself into everything? How you never slow down? How youââ He broke off, breath ragged, hands curling into fists at his sides. âDamn it, you donât listen.â
You laughed weakly, the sound shaking. âI listened to everything,â you said, voice breaking at last. âEvery correction. Every time you told me I wasnât careful enough, wasnât disciplined enough, wasnât enough.â Tears spilled freely now, tracing hot lines down your cheeks. âAll I wanted was to make you proud. Just once.â
The words hit him harder than anything else.
Proud.
The word echoed in his head, heavy and damning, and suddenly there was no room left for the excuses heâd been hiding behind. Jake sucked in a sharp breath, chest tightening like something had wrapped itself around his ribs and refused to let go. He looked at you properly then; not as a trainee, not as a problem he needed to fix, not as a risk factor he could keep at armâs length, but as you were right now: pinned to the forest floor, hurt, shaking, tears streaking down your face because of him.
He dragged a hand down his face, rough and restless, as if he could physically wipe away the truth settling in. âI never meant to make you feel like that,â he said, but the words sounded hollow even to his own ears. His voice faltered, the sharp edge giving way to something rawer. âI thought if I kept pushing, if I stayed hard on you, youâd stay alive. That you wouldnâtââ He swallowed, throat tight. âThat you wouldnât end up like the people I couldnât protect.â
The silence that followed was thick, pressing in around you both. The forest hummed softly, indifferent, eternal.
âYou donât get it,â you said quietly, exhaustion seeping into every syllable. âI wasnât trying to be careless. I was trying to be like you. Strong. Capable. Someone you could trust to have your back.â You turned your head just enough to look at him, eyes red and shining. âI thought if I proved myself, if I showed you I could keep up, youâd see me. Not just as a problem to correct.â
That was it.
He saw it then. Not in a flash, but in a slow, devastating unraveling. The extra risks youâd taken. The way you watched him after drills, waiting. The way your confidence sharpened whenever he was near, how your recklessness had never been about defiance at all. It was devotion. It was you bending yourself around his expectations, chasing approval heâd been too afraid to give because giving it would mean admitting how deeply you were already under his skin.
Jake let out a shaky breath that sounded dangerously close to a laugh, or maybe a sob. âGod,â he muttered, staring at the ground between you as if it might give him answers. âI told myself I was doing the right thing. That this was discipline. Leadership.â His jaw clenched. âBut really, I was scared. And instead of owning that, I took it out on you.â
He looked back at you, and there was no command left in his expression. No distance. Just a man stripped bare by the realization of what heâd nearly destroyed.
âI didnât want this,â he admitted, voice low and strained. âI didnât want to need you. I didnât want to wake up and notice when you werenât there. Didnât want to feel the training ground go quiet when you stopped showing up.â His hands lifted again, hesitant this time, before gently cupping your face, thumbs brushing away tears like he couldnât stand to see them there. âI thought if I kept you at a distance, Iâd be in control.â
His forehead dropped to yours, breath uneven, confession spilling out now that the dam had finally broken. âBut all I did was hurt you.â
You shook, a quiet sob slipping free as weeks of swallowed pain finally found somewhere to go. âYou humiliated me,â you whispered. âIn front of everyone. And I still wanted to apologize. I still wanted you to think I cared, because I do.â Your voice cracked. âI just wanted to matter to you.â
His breath hitched, a sound torn straight from his chest. âYou do,â he said immediately, fiercely. âThatâs the problem.â He pulled back just enough to look at you, eyes burning, unguarded in a way that made your heart ache. âI miss you. I miss seeing you every day. I miss how you light up the clearing, how you smile even when Iâm being an ass.â His voice dropped, trembling. âAnd the thought of losing youâ of finding out you went too far into the forest alone and never came back...â He swallowed hard. âI canât live with that.â
The words hung between you, fragile and irrevocable.
For a long moment, neither of you spoke. Your breathing evened out, the sharp edge of pain fading, but the ache lingered. Jake stayed close, close enough to feel the warmth, but he didnât fill the silence with excuses.
âYou hurt me,â you said finally, voice rough but steady. Not an accusation, just truth. âI canât⊠ignore that.â
He nodded once, jaw tight. âI know.â No defense, no justification. Just the weight of it, accepted.
He shifted slightly, as if testing the space between you, hand hesitant. âI shouldnât have⊠I didnât meanââ
âDonât,â you cut him off gently. âJust⊠be here.â
He froze for a heartbeat, then slowly let himself. Close, steady, not overbearing. Neither of you spoke again.
The forest around you was quiet, leaves whispering overhead.
Nothing was fixed. Nothing needed to be said.
But for now, it was enough.

I watched Avatar: Fire and Ash in the cinema last week and I am so back in my Avatar phase
would anyone read it if I wrote some fics? đ idk how consistent Iâll be able to be, because of uni starting again soon, but I feel like I have quite a few ideas (some of which are clichĂ©, but I can never find them exactly how I want them, plus I feel like I canât find anything I truly like anymore??? đ)
we need more Avatar fic writers
