the fact of the matter is, all of the online harassment and bullying of kit connor about his sexuality absolutely stems from people’s entitlement in knowing everything about a celebrity’s personal life and the community’s inherit biphobia and biphobic rhetoric. there’s a rumor he’s dating a girl, people go feral, claim that he’s straight, and cry queerbait, despite the fact that it’s a fictional term used for fictional media purposes and that real life people can’t actually “queerbait”. even now, after he’s been bullied into coming out, there are people telling him to “prove it” or calling him a “bihet” and saying that he’s lying, all because he might be with a girl and ignoring the fact that this could affect his career because bigoted old white rich men run hollywood. i’ve seen others ask what the big deal is, and wonder why it’s hard for him to come out at all when he already publicly plays a bisexual character, when there’s a difference between acting and being ready to come out in real life. all of this is coming from a place of entitlement and it really ultimately stems from biphobia in the community. if you’re bi and date someone of the opposite sex, you’re not gay enough. if you’re bi and date someone of the same sex, you’re not straight enough. it’s absolutely revolting, and if you think harassing someone into coming out is something to be proud of or something that is owed to you, especially an 18 year old kid who’s barely lived his life, you’re a piece of garbage and i hope you rot.
did anyone actually read heartstopper??
this situation with kit is exactly why the “only queer actors should play queer characters” attitude is incredibly flawed and should stop btw
i’m so fucking done with people. The fact that he was literally forced to come out, bullying him and calling him a queerbaiter every day until he couldn’t keep it to himself anymore. Imagine being 18 and having the entire internet forcing you to come out and straight up labelling you.
I remember a few months back when Kit talked about his RIGHT to keep his sexuality private, and what makes it even worse is that the “hearstopper fans” were the ones harassing him and assuming his sexuality every fucking day, to the point he left twitter so he wouldn’t see all of it and not only that but literally made him address it.
And he’s right, some of you did miss the point of Heartstopper, LIKE DID WE WATCH THE SAME SHOW?? DID YOU LEARN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING?? and honestly it’s not something that can get lost in translation, it’s right fucking there, but some people just choose to ignore it and for what.
That being said, i just wanna share this quote from the show, it’s so important for everyone to understand that NOBODY owes us anything when it comes to them figuring their sexuality or just wanting to keep it to themselves, if someone chooses to have that part of themselves private it doesn’t immediately invalidates them, it doesn’t mean it’s not real and it does NOT give anyone the right to force it out or assume something.

This is what I was talking about.
This is exactly why the whole "Queer characters can only be played by queer actors" argument, or the queerbaiting celebrities argument is not only unhelpful, it is actively harmful. You are not entitled to other peoples identity. You are forcing people to come out in order to protect their careers, when they may not have wanted to share that with the world. Real people can not queerbait. Real people can not be bad representations of themselves. Do not conflate how you treat fictional characters with how you are allowed to treat real people. We can not keep having the same conversation. Forcing people to come out or else face social consequences is Bad. Always. Everytime.
In this case, Kit is literally a teenager who has been facing overwhelming amounts of online abuse for not being open about his personal identity.
Im seeing it with other queer media too. With nicholas galitzin and taylor zakhar perez in the red white & royal blue movie, people demanding that they should have been recast with "actual queer actors" despite the fact that we do not know if they are or are not queer. We can never know until they tell us that they are, which they have not.
Im also seeing it with young royals. With the new season coming out later today, the speculation on omar and edvins sexuality and relationship is incredibly harmful and toxic. They are real people, please treat them like people instead of fictional characters you can write rambling, speculating paragraphs about.
I'll say it one more time.
You are not entitled to other people's identities.
i wish everyone who made kit connor feel he had to come out a very merry FUCK YOU. you forced an eighteen year old into coming out publicly, before he was ready, when he stated many many times he wanted to keep it private. how many more times does this shit have to fucking happen before some of you fucking clock that YOU CANNOT QUEERBAIT IN REAL LIFE. this is the natural end to the discourse of ‘if somebody is in the public eye playing a queer person they owe us their sexuality’, and it’s DEEPLY FUCKED UP, they do NOT owe you an answer, and this mindset JUST FORCED AN EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD TO OUT HIMSELF BEFORE HE WAS READY TO
We desperately need to get stay at home moms into 3D modeling/3D printing. I say this every day and it never gets any less true.
We need to give these women the tools to do with 3D printers what they've accomplished with cutting machines. There are youtube videos out there with a woman who looks like she is personally your mom clearly using her own phone camera to record and saying "Ok we're going to learn how to make a suuuper easy and fun cricut project! I whipped up the design for this while the kids were at school :)" and then shows off some 3D paper masterpiece that would take me 3 years in an architectural college to have designed. We need this for the 3D printing world.
"Waah but then people might take the art less seriously and we'd see a bunch of people making a printing 3D knick knacks for etsy and it won't be an exclusive club anymore :(((" GOOD. I would LOVE for 3d printing to be relegated to the realm of "mom craft" the way laser/cnc cutting and engraving have. I would love for companies that know they can hike prices because it's seen as a "techie" thing to have to make their product more accessible for lower income people to stay competitive with the market. I would love to see a bunch of little cute 3d crap on etsy or at craft fairs. I see no downside to this. And if you see an art form as "less serious" or "less legitimate" because women are getting into it, then that's on you.

John Mulaney’s dad was absolutely right, being sat over on the bench and watching on whilst someone else gets hurt and doing nothing about it is horrible and it makes you a not good person and if John had perhaps listened to him at 6 years old, he wouldn’t have just invited a transphobe to open for him and aggressively hurt an entire community whilst he watched on. But no, he’s quite comfortable over on the bench.
there have been many cases already international clients dropping their commissions from filipino artists or avoiding commissioning filipino creators altogether, either due to a fear of consequences getting associated with us because of current events or the misguided notion that not supporting us somehow hurts the oppressive government we’re under. lemme address both those issues:
for the first reason, nothing will happen to you, a foreigner, for supporting filipinos. theres nothing to be afraid of, youre not in this country and wont suffer any consequences. many of us, however? we’re afraid. especially artists and creators who rely on commissions to support themselves and their families
for the second reason, you are not hurting our oppressors at all. you are hurting filipinos, majority of which did not want this to happen and are actively speaking out against the looming dictatorship. dropping filipino creators does nothing but hurt us. our inflation rates are predicted to rise, and money is fast becoming an even bigger issue for so so many
so if youre looking for art, dont give up on us. commission filipino artists and/or boost commission posts! 1 USD is literally enough to buy a meal here, it really helps. here is a link to a thread of filipino artists posting their commission rates. and here is another thread of filipino commission rates. tips and donations outside of comms to these artists help even more.
edit: fixed links
