Like, the demon-blood arc? Not his fault. It was an addiction. Everyone in his life treated it like it was something he was in control of, and it simply wasn’t.

Season five (I think?) when it shows Sam’s heaven as having nothing to do with Dean? Can’t say I blame him there either. Not that it was even real anyway -- the angels manipulated his heaven on purpose to pit the brothers against each other, but even if that wasn’t the case, I feel like it’s perfectly justifiable that his favourite memories would be the few tastes of freedom he got to experience over the years.

When he was soulless and Dean beat him to a pulp after Sam asked for help? God that infuriated me. He didn’t deserve that, especially when the way he was acting wasn’t all that bad. It could’ve been a whole lot worse, and it pisses me off that nobody acknowledges that even soulless, he still had some semblance of morality. That didn’t necessarily have to be the case.

Not searching for Dean in purgatory? Maybe not his shiniest moment, but do I blame him? Also no. He had no idea where to even start looking for his brother, and nobody left alive to help him. So, he did what Dean did when Sam was stuck in the cage and started a new life. Simple as that. Completely understandable in my opinion.

Telling Dean that he wouldn’t let Ezekiel possess Dean to bring him back from the dead if their positions were reversed in season 9… good. Dean needed to hear it. He had no right to take away Sam’s choice like that, and Sam had every right to be angry.

Getting the full blame for Charlie’s death? Drives me up the fucking wall. She was a grown woman capable of making her own decisions, and who wanted to help her friends. It’s not up to Sam to decide whether or not she’s allowed to be involved, and considering his past struggles with his own autonomy, he’s not going to put her in a situation where she feels dictated, because he knows how it feels.

I’m not saying that Sam does no wrong -- because that’s just simply not true -- but the amount of hate and criticism he gets compared to Dean is just ridiculous. He’s a complex character; don’t be surprised when the decisions he makes aren’t always 100% straightforward or morally sound.
