For the Honor of Greyskull

I’m not here to validate your smug feelings about not liking a children’s book series 20 years ago. I’m here to discourage others from spending money on it and to give myself and others words and space to work through some feelings. I’m a trans person that made Harry Potter one of my cornerstone interests. One of my favorite things. I’m not some cis person doing cope.

Harry Potter was a big thing. Like. Big in a way that’s difficult to fully understand. It still is. If you were caught up in it during your formative years it’s normal to need to process all of the horrid things now associated with it.

When people go about purity posturing, saying shit like "well I was able to tell from the beginning so you clearly are a transphobe for EVER liking it," first off, no you fucking didn't, unless you can produce a post you made in 2006 where you said something to that effect.

And secondly, you are disrespecting and shitting all over the betrayal and grief many people are experiencing, simply because it makes you and your ego feel like you've got the moral high ground because you weren't tainted by intellectual engagement with a piece of art.

I'm more inclined to trust the moral judgment of someone who's confronted problematic thinking than somebody who's lived their whole lives in a curated, sanitized bubble of ritual cleanliness. We can learn a lot more by discussing how a bigoted transphobe was able to write a heartfelt story of persecution. That clearly demonstrates that you can have compassion and empathy, and yet *still* have massive moral blind spots and be capable of hate.

I've never designed a gun before so it was new to me. I made some alterations to make it more "accurate" to how a real gun might work (the cylinder was on backwards) and filled in some blanks.
