How about Robert and reader find out their daughter has a autoimmune disease but doctors donβt know yet what it is but they just want to be all together thank you (kinda based off of me)
author's note: hi <3 this is such a wholesome ask, i'll be happy to provide it!
EVEN ON BAD DAYS - ROBERT KEATING
pairings: dad!bobby skeetz x mom!reader summary: based on the request above! cw: hurt/comfort fic, genuinely sad, fluff
"come on, love. let's get your dress on." you smile down at your daughter, lifting her ruffly blue dress off its hanger and gently shutting the closet door.
she nods and bounces on her feet, excited to feel like a princess for her dad's birthday party. you remove her pajamas and replace them with her pretty blue dress she picked out herself in the store.
when you zip the dress, your smile only gets bigger. "you look beautiful, honey." you kiss her temple.
she smiles and places her fingers in her mouth.
"how we doing?" your husband enters the room with a tiny knock at the doorframe. you turn around to greet him, wrapping your arms around his neck.
"hi." you give him a soft peck on the lips as his fingers brush your cheekbone.
he runs a hand through his shiny brown curls while he crosses the room, a big grin on his face as he catches sight of his daughter.
"hi, daddy." she mumbles through sticky fingers.
"hey, baby." he kisses her cheek and lifts her off the chair, into his warm arms. she squeals as he tickles her neck. "the tickle monster has arrived!" he gasps dramatically, adding to the fun. she squirms and doesn't stop laughing as he continues to attack her with kisses.
you crawl up behind him and wrap your arms around his torso, placing a tender kiss to his neck. "happy birthday." you whisper into his skin, and he turns around to greet you with a smile.
bobby kissed your forehead shortly with a "thank you," before returning to your daughter. he gasps dramatically, and her expression drops like she was caught stealing candy.
"what did i tell you?" bobby lifts a brow, a stern finger pointed at her. "no fingers in your mouth, you'll get sick." he crosses the room and grabs a tissue from the box lying on your vanity, wrapping it around her tiny fingers.
"sorry," she mutters as he nuzzles his nose into her pink cheek.
"your gifts are on the table." you smile, bringing bobby's attention back to you.
he lifts his brows and looks at your little girl, his lips parted. "you bought me gifts?" he asks.
she nods enthusiastically. "can I tell you what it is?" she whispers in his ear.
"hey!" you cross your arms over your chest. "no spoilers."
"gotta listen to the boss," bobby shakes his head and heads for the door of the bedroom, holding it open for you.
you all travel down the hallway and into the living room, and bobby's jaw drops as he sees the gift on the table.
"holy shit, love. you didn't." he gasps.
"what'd I tell you about cursing in front of georgie?" you smack his head and he places a palm over his mouth.
"sorry!" he scolds himself and looks to your daughter who has an angry expression on her face.
"one dollar." she lifts her chin adorably and points to the swear jar.
bobby pouts. "on my birthday? seriously?" he looks to you for help.
"no excuses, daddy." she doesn't let up.
"dang it." he shakes his head and digs in his back pocket for his wallet.
"hey! that's another one!" she smiles. "keep swearing, i want another toy!"
"nope, 'dang' doesn't count." bobby kisses her cheek.
"yes it does!" she shrieks. "mommy, tell him." she looks to you in the corner of the room.
"it counts," you say with a big smile. "sorry."
she extends her palm and bobby solemnly places two dollars in her hand. when he lets her off his arms, she runs to the jar and places it inside.
"i only need two more curse words until I can get my new barbie doll" she smiles as she counts the money.
"i'm gonna try to not take offense to that." bobby mutters before returning to his big gift on the table.
you chuckle, coming up behind him to look at the gift. "you like it?" you ask.
"i love it." he picks up the vintage emerald green bass guitar that you spent a fortune on, but he doesn't need to know that.
"are we broke?" he asks as he runs his fingers over the strings.
"nah." you brush it off and sit on the couch next to him.
"mommy," your daughter calls to you, and your attention leaves the guitar to look at her.
she's rubbing her tummy, and her face has gone pale. "honey? what's wrong?" you immediately lift off the couch and return to her side.
"rob, she's gone pale again." you kneel at her side and place a hand to her small forehead. your expression is nowhere near happy anymore and your stomach starts to churn.
"i feel sick." she says.
"okay, okay. that's okay- you'll be okay." you nod, your palms starting to get sweaty.
over the past few weeks, she's been complaining of sickness. you've gone to three doctors, and they've all informed you that it could be hay fever, a small cold, or even the flu.
but it's been weeks.
bobby lifts off the couch and runs to your side. he picks her up and rushes to the bathroom, not even bothering with the light.
he lets her down onto the bathroom floor, her little knees hitting the carpet. "let it out, love." he rubs her back and lifts her hair so it won't get in the way.
you rush to the telephone, dialing her pediatrician. "everything's okay, she's gonna be fine." you sniffle as your fingers shake on the keypad, trying to keep yourself calm.
"hello?" your voice is panicked.
your forwarded from the front-desk woman to the doctor, and he asks what's wrong. "she's throwing up again." you say while clutching your necklace.
he tells you to stay calm and you try your best to. "you told us it was just a small cold, but it's been happening too frequently." you tell the doctor through heavy breaths.
"bring her in, we'll run a few tests." the doctor tells you over the phone.
before you can respond, bobby's yelling your name from the bathroom.
you rush to the bathroom, your eyes being met with bobby knelt at the toilet with your daughter in his hands. "she's not responding." he waves a hand in her face, trying to shake her awake.
"oh God." the tears start to fall.
"can you hear me, love?" you shift her into your arms and hurry into her bedroom, placing her down on her bed.
"rob, get a cold towel for her forehead, please?" you panic.
"got it," he rushes into the kitchen. you hear cabinets slamming as he looks for the towel drawer, running one under the water and running back into her bedroom.
"we're here, okay?" he places the towel to her forehead, curling up at her side on her little bed.
the cold sensation from the towel helps her consciousness, but she starts to cry the second she's awake. "don't cry! you're safe with us, okay?" bobby tries to put on a smile despite the pain in his hard.
"dr. thompson wants us to bring her in now." you say while wiping falling tears with the back of your hand.
"let's go." bobby grabs her coat from the closet and slips on her little sneakers while you start the car.
βββ
"can you hear me, baby?" bobby asks as he rushes in front of you, your daughter wrapped in your arms.
"daddy?" she asks, her voice shaky.
"hi," he says with a happy chuckle, glad she's awake. "yes, I'm here. we're gonna see the doctor, okay?"
she nods. "okay."
"name and age of the patient, please?" the woman behind the counter asks.
"georgia, she's eight years old." bobby responds with heavy breathing, his fingers nervously tapping on the counter.
you watch him from the waiting room chair with tears in your eyes, your daughter wrapped securely in your arms.
"should be two minutes." he arrives in the chair next to you.
"okay." you reply, your breathing is shaky and your heart hasn't stopped pounding since the second she told you she felt sick.
after a few minutes of extremely loud silence, she speaks.
"daddy?" she asks, her voice small.
bobby nearly jolts to life at the sound of her voice. he smiles, tears filled in his eyes. "yeah, baby?"
"im sorry i ruined your birthday." she mumbles.
he immediately shakes her head. "you didn't ruin anything, okay? it's not your fault; we'd be in the hospital regardless 'cause mommy bought a super expensive guitar for me and i nearly had a heart attack," bobby rambles as a smile appears on her face and you start to chuckle.
"the keating family?" the nurse arrives in the doorway, and you and bobby automatically stand up at the call.
"right this way." the nurse checks off your daughter's name on her clipboard and you follow her down the hall.
after georgie's checkup, the nurse pulls you out of the room.
"she's lost a significant amount of weight since her last visit." the nurse tells you.
the tears are close, and your throat starts to burn. "I know, and I feel like I'm fucking crazy because the doctors keep telling me the same thing every time! I know its not just a fever!-" you snap.
other patients in the waiting room start to turn their heads at your loud reaction, but you pay no mind. the nurse understands.
"ma'am i know how you feel. our medical system is doing our best, and we need you to stay calm. the tests are almost done and the doctor will be with you shortly to analyze it with you."
"okay." you whisper and wipe your tears. you accept a hug from the nurse before she leaves you to check on another patient, and you slip back inside the room.
the second the door opens, bobby lifts out of his chair like he's summoned and rushes to your side. "what'd she say?" his hands rub up and down your arms.
"she's lost a lot of weight and it's unusual." your chin starts to quiver.
he pulls you close. "hey, hey, hey. you're okay. she's okay. let's wait for the results, yeah?"
you nod and sit in the chair next to him, your daughter on the tiny hospital bed beside you. your hand doesn't let go of bobby's until the doctor arrives in the room.
"we discovered the reason behind each of her changes." dr. thompson takes a seat in the office chair next to your daughter and begins to explain.
"she has type one diabetes. our tests have revealed it, and everything you've described makes sense. the symptoms for children vary, and she experienced weight loss, vomiting, and frequent sickness."
you place a palm over your mouth not to cry, and bobby's hand moves up and down your back in a soothing motion.
"we have her charts and each x-ray, so i'll leave you to yourself for a few minutes before we can go over anything else." the doctor moves out of his chair and exits the room, leaving you, georgie, and bobby to yourself.
you collapse into his chest, muffled cries against his sweater. he cradles your head in his hands. "shhhh," he keeps you calm.
"I told them it wasn't just a sickness, i tried to tell them something wasn't right with how she was feeling lately, all the dizziness-" you cry openly and bobby just nods.
"I know, I know."
"mommy? why are you crying?" she asks, her tiny fingers playing with the little blanket in her hospital bed.
you sniffle, wipe your tears, and put on a little smile. "im okay. you don't have to worry about me."
you lift the blanket off the bed and slip underneath it, curling up next to her. bobby smiles and joins you on the other side of her.
"i'm sorry again, daddy." she whispers into bobby's chest.
"don't be sorry. we're together, and that's all that matters. i couldn't ask for anything other than being here with the two best girls in my life." he whispers into her hair before pressing a kiss there.
bobby finds her tiny hand and wraps it in his, then finds yours. he interlaces all of your hands, squeezing tightly.
"look at us. a family." he whispers with a small laugh, looking down at your fingers.
"nothing can ever change that, yeah? you're so strong, nothing's gonna get in your way." he smiles.
"how do you know?" she asks, looking up at her dad.
"because dads know everything. you're the strongest girl ever. you're stronger than supergirl." he places a finger to her cheek with a small "boop" and she giggles.
"stronger than supergirl?" she gasps as her eyes widen.
"hell yeah." he shrugs. "you kidding?"
her mouth parts and you start to giggle.
"what? what did I do?" he asks, completely clueless.
"you said a bad word, daddy. that's another dollar." she giggles.
his expression drops. "oh, come on!"

A CERTAIN ROMANCE - ROBERT KEATING
pairings: eyeliner!bobby skeetz x fem!reader summary: based on this request! (reader gives bobby eyeliner!!) cw: fluff!
"eyeliner." you announce as you point at the black makeup, twirling the stick between your fingers.
bobby's eyes widen as he sits up in the stool.
"something that belongs on you, but-" you start.
"but your theory has never been tested?" he interrupts.
your lips bend into a smile as you bite your lip. "exactly." you pop open the cap on the eyeliner, touching the flattened tip, wood overlapping the actual black eye makeup.
"you sure about this?" he asks, feeling second thoughts.
"mhm." you nod adorably, grabbing his face in between your fingers to angle his eyes to yours. "look straight," you say as you tilt your head to apply the makeup.
he smirks slightly, trying not to smile at how cute you look when you're focused. "what are you thinkin' about?" he whispers as you squint your eyes.
"if i want to do more than just your waterline," you admit with a grin.
"nope." he shakes his head. "my goal is not to look like gene simmons." he points a stern finger at your face, tapping your cheek. your smile stretches even wider.
"thanks for the idea," you sing, scooting your stool closer to his inside the backstage dressing room.
he pulls his face away with an intimidated look, but when you grab his chin again he obliges.
"you look really cute when you're focused." he whispers, his minty breath fanning down your face as you look down to sharpen the tip of the pencil.
you blush, your cheeks turning pink as your eyes meet his. "look up."
he obeys, tilting his head back up to face yours, and you reveal the sharpened tip. his jaw falls open. "that's as sharp as a fucking knife,"
"shhhh." you cut in, pressing the makeup to your finger to test it out. once it reveals a thin line, you squint your eyes and pull his face closer.
you can see his light freckles and his sharp nose touching yours as you pull his undereye down just a tiny bit.
you press the pencil to his waterline, swiftly running it until he sniffles. "you okay?" you pull back.
"why does it make me wanna cry?" he says casually.
you giggle shortly before addressing him. "cause beauty is pain"
his lips curl into a ridiculous smile. then you shake your head and say, "joking. you have to keep your tears in your eyes, okay? it'll ruin it if you let them run"
"fuck, okay." he says with a laugh. he sniffles once more, and then tells you, "im good."
"mmkay." you bite your lip as you apply the makeup to his left eye.
you do the same thing for the next one, and he hasn't complained at all.
"you're good at this. i cried the first time i applied eyeliner." you admit, capping the pencil.
he chuckles. "i remember. you showed up to the pub and scared us all, thinking ya had pink eye."
you chuckle and shake your head. "look up, it smudged a bit," you mutter, dragging your finger under his skin and removing any clumps or smudged areas.
"all done," you announce, looking up at his face.
as soon as your eyes meet his, your lips part. your cheeks go red as you start to laugh in surprise.
he grins widely, confused as to whats so funny. "what? is it really that bad?"
you shake your head and bite your lip. "you don't look bad!" you reassure him.
bobby's eyebrow lifts. "so then what is it?"
your nose touches his as you whisper against his lips, "you look too good."
he smiles slowly. "that so? lemme have a look"
you spin his stool around so he can take a look in the large mirror on the wall, and his lips part too.
"holy shittt" he pulls his undereye down.
"why have you not let me do your makeup before?"
"dunno." he's still examining his face. you put your hands on his shoulders with a wide grin.
"so? what'd ya think?" you sing, crouching beside him.
"i think you did a good job-"
"and i made you look extra hot right?" you cut in with a laugh.
he shakes his head at your statement and whispers a small "sheesh" as his hands find your waist.
he guides you to straddle his lap and you position your hands around his neck, fingers lightly brushing against his soft hair.
"i can't believe you never fuckin let me," you shake your head with a tiny smirk.
"are you happy i finally did?" his fingers tease the knitted patches on the back of your leather jacket.
"mhm." you say as your eyes catch his again. his gaze is so intense, illuminating with his blue eyes and fierce with the tiny touch of makeup.
"show time!!" eli knocks on bobby's dressing room door which is already open.
his eyes catch on you two, a big smile on your face as your on his lap, and bobby's hands settled on your waist.
"am i interrupting something?" he asks with a lifted brow.
"yeah, get out" bobby says with wide eyes as he nudges his chin towards the door.
your hands slide to his face as you giggle and turn towards eli. "nah, you're okay. you like what ive done with your boring bassist?"
eli steps inside the room, crossing his arms over his chest.
"im not boring" bobby pouts, but you just laugh again and pinch his cheek playfully.
"is that eyeliner?" eli squints.
you nod adorably. "you like it?"
"he never lets any of the crew go near him with that shit. you're the only one who could get him to do it," eli shakes his head.
"no, lad. the crew wanted me to dye my hair purple. i ain't ever trusting them" he corrects eli.
"so if i ask you to dye your hair purple will you do it?" you squint.
"mmm...no. sorry love." he fakes a smile.
you kiss his cheek once as eli just watches the two of you awkwardly. "we have a screaming crowd down the hall, so..." eli cuts in.
"oh! yes! sorry," you move off of bobby's lap and place a falling strand of hair behind your ear.
"go get 'em." you pat bobby's chest and watch him leave the dressing room with eli.
κ©
during the gig, you get shots of the whole band with your camera, making sure to angle it and get the perfect lighting.
"red lighting and eyeliner looks good on you," you nudge his shoulder as you show him the photos. you're sitting at the pub with the band, all sweaty post-gig. ryan's on his second guinness and eli's laughing at things that aren't funny.
bobby's hand is on your lower back, reeling you in closer to him each time you tell him something over the loud music in the pub. "thanks, love." he kisses your temple and takes another sip of his guinness.

"my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder"
he stands across the room from you, his eyes searching for you like he's known you for years. but you don't have a clue who he is. his unrecognizable blue irises pull you in deep, even though you try your hardest not to fall.
his shiny brown curls fall over his eyes as he tilts his head, trying to keep his eyes on you in this sea of people. the blue lighting frames his face perfectly, his beautiful eyes behind that silver mask.
you're standing in your white costume, a ruffly dress with silky straps hanging off your shoulders. your curls are freshly done, as well as your soft makeup; not too much, but just the right amount with a glossy lip.
you're dressed as christine daaΓ© from phantom of the opera. you look identical to her and received lots of praise for your great costume in the last hour from strangers you bumped shoulders with. if your boyfriend hadn't dumped you a few weeks ago, you could have matched with him.
but things don't always go according to plan.
the man dressed as the phantom across the room can't keep his eyes off you. your chest heaves in response to his intense gaze. he has a white button up on, his chest peeking through the open buttons on his shirt. his lips quirk up into a small smile, referring to your unintentional matching of costumes.
you smile as well, his being far too contagious to not. you look towards the front door of the loud party, and then back at him. you head towards the front door, slipping into the cool night under the stars.
you're thankful for pockets in your dress, reaching into the white ruffles for your cigarette pack. you pull out one, reaching deeper into your dress for your silver lighter. as you light the cigarette carefully, the front door slams and footsteps sound on the gray concrete.
you tilt your head, the reflection of the flame casting a romantic glow on your soft skin. he arrives in your space, keeping a respectable distance from you.
"nice costume" a voice speaks behind you.
you turn your head at the sound, so soft, so foreign, but with a hint of amusement. there he is, the phantom. standing behind you with his hands jammed in the pockets of his black dress pants, the sleeves of his button up rolled up just past his forearms. he was even more beautiful up close; divine even.
you turn fully now, your body almost being drawn to him. "thank you. are you here to haunt me?" you ask softly, despite your peculiar ask.
his lips curl into a large grin. "no. try again."
you chuckle. "hmm," you move closer to him, his eyes trailing over your costume and back up to your eyes like you were a celestial being. you take a drag of your cigarette, blowing the smoke to the side of your face, letting it drift into the distance.
"are you here to stalk me and teach me how to sing?" you reference who your characters are dressed as and their roles and circle his body slowly. he watches as you travel around him. he's mesmerized by you, by how perfect you are.
he licks his lips. "not quite."
you stop your movements, freezing in front of his face. your face is inches from his, and you tilt your head as you watch him lick his lips slowly. "then why did you follow me outside?"
"i have no idea." he admits, his eyes dipping to your lips, and then back up to your eyes.
he had an idea. but it didn't make sense. the truth was, he followed you because he was drawn to you.
before you can register what you are doing, your fingers reach up and brush his cheekbones lightly. his heart softens. he lets out a small gasp that is barely audible at the contact of your fingers on his skin.
you reach behind his hair until you find the black strap behind his head. you slowly untie his mask, letting the shield fall into his hands. he looks down at his hands, not letting you see his face.
your fingers drop to his chin, tilting his face so you can look at him. when he obeys, his eyes meet yours. you gasp slightly at the sight of his face.
the shape of his nose, like roman art. long eyelashes, sky blue eyes that grow deeper by the second, just by gazing down at you. he towers over you, his body is lean and muscular, and his breathing is heavy. you tuck your hand into his shirt, feeling his heart beat. you expect a gentle thump beneath your fingers, but what you feel is his heart knocking against his chest, a rough drum beat that's eager to jump out at you.
"who are you?" you inquire, a breathy whisper escaping your lips.
"robert." he tells you, his heart beats faster after hearing the sound of your voice again. "you?" he asks.
your eyes dip to where your soft hand is pressed at his pale chest, and then back up to his eyes. "christine."
he lifts his eyebrows. "really?"
you smile and huff a laugh. then, you tell him your real name. you swear his face lights up after hearing your name. he even smiles.
"you're beautiful" he blurts out. that makes you laugh. the sound of your laugh makes him happier, but also self-conscious. he does a nervous laugh, scratching the back of his neck. you didn't expect him to say that, but you could tell he was eager to get something off his chest.
"so are you." you confess, and it's true. he was beautiful. and you were sure he had never received a compliment like that.
his eyes soften at the edges just slightly, and then he looks down your lips while simply licking his. you giggle, and then move to press your lips against his. he gasps, not expecting it.
he freezes as your mouth moves against his in a soft rhythm, but as soon as his heart flutters and something in his stomach drops, his body has full control. he melts into the kiss, tilting his head to kiss you deeper as his hands go to your waist.
his hand drops lower, trailing down your arm and finding your hand. his fingers wrap around the cigarette that is still between your fingers, and he tosses it into the grass, neither of you paying attention to the smoke flurry it discards beneath you.
your hands crawl up his neck to palm his soft hair, your tongue moving against his. you taste of cigarettes and strawberry lipgloss, and he smiles at your taste. his lips are slightly chapped, and you inhale the lingering scent of beer on his body mixed with the faint smell of his earthy cologne.
that night was never meant to end. it was supposed to continue until the end of time. replay over and over each day until you two were tangled and grown.
but all good things must end.
2025
"fell off the bed and take me on the floor
back at the crescent suite, i saw the look in your eyes"
you're taking the train home from work, your black boots muddy from last night's lingering rainfall. you pass royal albert hall on your way home, stopping to take a look at the headliner.
inhaler.
your stomach drops, and your mind reels to memories you want to relive, and some memories you wish could be locked in a box and thrown into the sea forever.
the halloween party. meeting him, asking his name, tasting him on your lips, spending time with him more often than you should have that whole year. attending his shows, going out for pints, meeting his friends, sharing a cigarette in your bed at three in the morning. kisses you never wanted to end, nights that you two spent tangled in each other that you wished lasted longer.
the last night in your flat. he stumbles home drunk, you're pulling at your hair with tears staining your cheeks for reasons you can't understand. he was away too long, the tour separating his brain from his heart. separating the two of you. he's on his knees, begging you to stay while you force sweaters and pairs of denim jeans into your bag like you were being timed.
he kisses your tears, telling you that figuring it out exists. that fighting is normal. but you're sick of fighting. of declining his shows for work. of constantly disappointing him. of him not being able to attend your graduation.
not everything was a fairytale.
not everything was perfect.
as much as you tell yourself you aren't living in a dream at an opera house and he isn't a phantom, you can't help but feel like he's always haunting you.
his voice in your ear. his smile appearing in your dreams. his body next to you at night, holding you until you fall asleep with his warm breath at your ear.
except it isn't real. he isn't there. you're all alone, cold, craving the warmth of his embraces.
you blink your eyes once, trying to bring color back to your pale face as horns honk and people rush past you, trying to get home.
you look like you've seen a ghost.
you adjust your purse on your shoulder, turning your head to see if anyone is around. if he's around. there are lines of people dressed in halloween costumes outside the venue, and you swallow hard.
without thinking, you move closer to the venue, arriving at the ticket counter with your wallet. "one ticket, please." you ask with a shudder of your breath as a cold night breeze washes over you.
you clutch your coat tighter as the man behind the counter chuckles. "you're lucky it's the last one, sweetheart." he hands you the ticket, flips the sign on the booth that royal albert hall is now sold out for inhaler's halloween show. you thank the man and then start your journey over to the line to get inside.
once you're inside, the lights dim as the gig starts. you look around at the screaming fans as the room gets darker, and the band starts to erupt onto the stage. the rush that the crowd is feeling when they walk out is exactly the right amount of sparks you felt when you kissed him.
your breath catches as you see him look up and scan the crowd with the same mask he wore at the halloween party. you nearly smile. robert's eyes search through the sea of people, almost like he's looking for a certain person. like he's looking for you.
his eyes drop to his bass when he can't find you, and you scoot through the crowd with muttered "excuse me's" as you try to get closer to him. once you arrive at the ground floor, you're grateful nobody is sitting down. it's all a mush, people jumping up and down, you left your seat which was the last one on the balcony. you squeeze into the third row between two enthusiastic girls, knowing all the lyrics to the song.
you watch his fingers on his bass, his digits lightly strumming each chord. you smile, proud of what he does. he's so talented, you just want to wrap your arms around him and tell him. but you can't. because he's still just a ghost to you.
and then, it's like time stops. the clock stops ticking. the globe stops spinning.
his eyes find yours, his expression dropping shortly before softening. he can't believe you're here, standing before him in your work outfit, straight from the office. he can tell this was last minute. his lips quirk into a tiny smile, and you watch his eyes behind the mask light up.
the show ends late, and you spend the whole time just watching him like some freak. but he saw you. you even caught the way he was so close to pausing his movements, his hand freezing over his guitar for a split second like you were worth stopping the show for.
you watch the crowd clear, moving towards the door of the venue before an older man pulls you aside. "ma'am?" he taps your shoulder. your eyebrow quirks up as you squeeze out of the crowd and follow him to the side of the room, and he whispers something in your ear. you nod, following him down a long gray hallway. he's taking you backstage.
"last room to the right." he tells you before returning back down the hall. you stutter, turning around to catch him. "wait-" but he's gone. what if there was a ghost? he had left you alone in this creepy, narrow hallway.
you took a deep breath and slowly traveled down the hall towards the last room on the right. you carefully pushed the heavy wooden door open, a cinematic creaking noise coming fro the door. you looked deep into the room, only to be met with a person. you couldn't see them because their back was turned to you, but you knew exactly who it was.
his hair was blonde now. the black tie behind his head from the mask would be recognizable anywhere. his lean body is the same, and his muscles are more toned. he was the same person inside, and minor changes on the outside made you smile.
he slowly turned around, a gasp pulling from his lips. his eyes soften, and he almost smiles at the sight of you. you don't run to him. over the years, space has been placed between the two of you like a brick wall. and it was difficult to get to the other side of it.
"i look out for you every time." he breathes out with a shake of his head.
you are still standing in the doorway, unable to move your feet. you're glued there, not sure if you should advance or stay. what was the best choice? keep your distance, or fall into him again just like you so easily did all those years ago?
"you never show up." he continues when you don't answer.
sadness flickers in your heart. you didn't mean to shut him out, but your relationship was way too difficult. and now, all you wanted was him. you wanted the good parts and the bad parts. you wanted to be the one to haunt him on nights when he was lonely on tour.
"i'm here now." you whisper.
he lets out a loud sigh, one packed with relief, and you take this opportunity to run to him. he's your last chance. you wrap your arms around his body, touching him like you were making sure he was real. that he wasn't just another ghost haunting you on a lonely night.
"i'm sorry." you break into tears as the scent of him fills your senses. you've missed him, the wya your body fits perfectly into his as he wraps you in a large embrace.
"don't be sorry." he rubs his palm along your back, kissing your hair and inhaling your scent.
"no, i am. i let you go. i let you walk out, and i didn't even care until you were gone. i didn't notice how much i loved you until you were gone," you say through sniffles.
he smiles at your confession, kissing your tears away. "shh, it's okay. i'm not mad." he reassures you.
you laugh through the tears. "i must have makeup all over my face, right?" you roll your eyes at the wet streams of black eyeliner trailing from your waterline down to your cheeks.
he smiles. then, he gently licks the pad of his thumb before tenderly swiping it under the soft skin of your eye. "there. all better." he continues to swipe his thumb across your cheekbone as your lips curl into a grin, pulling him in for another deep kiss.
you reach down to his chest, looking at his costume. your hands roam all over his clothes, the big black tie and the silver mask, just like the first time all over again. you reach for his tie, pulling it open and tossing it aside, diving into the buttons on his shirt. he laughs and shakes his head, his hands firm on your waist.
you slowly unbutton each one, savoring this moment with him, each piece you remembered being earned back this very minute. "i love you." you inhaled his scent once more, nuzzling your nose into his neck as your hands find his heart again through his shirt. your hand lies on his bare chest beneath the fabric, listening to his heartbeat. you missed the thump against your palm.
his heart was beating even faster than that time at the party. it was alive. begging to be held in your hands. you pressed your forehead against his, and he leaned into you. you both closed your eyes, living in the moment, trying to stay like this for as long as possible, restoring everything that was lost between you.
"i asked you if you came to haunt me." you whisper.
he stills. "what?"
"that night at the halloween party. i asked you if you came outside to haunt me."
"yeah?" he asks, waiting for your elaboration.
"you said no." you gulped. "but,"
he clasps his hands in yours, and they fit perfectly together.
"you still haunted me every night."
"i did?"
you nod. "you were everywhere."
he smiles, then cradles your head in his hand. you melt into him and close your eyes as another tear rolls down your cheek. he swipes it away before it can travel too far, and then your glossy eyes open again.
"i've missed you." he says simply.
those three words carry so much weight, and it shows in the way you two have clung to each other like glue since the second you arrived backstage.
"i've missed you too."

youβre standing in the bathroom, taking steady, deep breaths as the metal of the scissors lightly scrape against your palm. your hands are sweaty, but you are pretty confident in this decision.
after all of the constant pregnancy stress lately, you need a major change in your life to make you happier. and chopping off half your length of hair would most likely fulfill you. you close your eyes, trying to rethink this decision as best as you could.
you remembered bobby running his fingers through your silky hair while you laid in bed, him kissing your forehead and telling you how beautiful you were.
βwhat do you think of me cutting my hair?β you asked him late one night last week while you were sat on the couch, watching some old eighties movie neither of you were really paying attention to.
βhm?β he asked, half asleep, his fingers drawing patterns into your scalp softly.
you giggled, snuggling tighter into his warm chest, looking up at his tired eyes, trying to keep them open.
βmy hair. would you like it if i cut it?β you cooed.
he smiled sleepily. βyou know i love you regardless, right?β
βi know,β you smiled. βi just want your opinion.β
he pursed his lips in thought. βhmm. youβd look nice with shorter hair.β he imagined you with a new look.
βyou think?β you ran your hands down his chest in a soothing motion, slowly putting him to sleep without even really noticing.
βyepppβ he nods through a long and loud yawn, which makes you chuckle against his chest.
and now here you are, gripping a pair of scissors in your sweaty hands in response to a sleepy bobby.
just do it already.
you carefully lift the scissors to the hair that lays on your collarbone, the metal blade approaching your shiny strands as slowly as possible.
this new you, the "mom" you, really craved a change. and you were more than ready for it.
your fingers guide the tool across your strands, a small chopping sound filling the room. you gasp as you watch them fall to the floor, gaining more confidence and also feeling a wave of nerves rush by.
"holy shit" you breathe out, a small smile spreading across your lips at the new experience.
you've never cut your hair before, but you did bleach bobby's hair last summer.
it came out good. and now you aspired to make your hair look just as amazing.
you got this.
you swiped the black scissors across the next section of hair, letting it fall away, some bits into the sink and some drifting to the tile floors of the cramped bathroom.
you sig, and somehow summon the uncanny ability to smile at this situation. your hair is uneven at this point, half on the floor and half still attached to your head.
"woah" you breathe, shaking out your hair and turning your head to get a better view to clip at the places where uneven hair is.
you brush out your strands with your fingers, not being able to peel your eyes from the mirror in front of you.
your hair is short.
really, really short.
you cut off about five inches of your normal length, and it should scare you.
but it doesn't. you love it.
you tilt your head in the mirror, drinking in the new you.
β‘βΛβ§
"im home" you hear a tired sigh turn into a hushed whisper.
bobby. the thought of him immediately brings a calm smile to your face.
he's finally home after a long gig. this week they were playing tinier venues before they toured europe and played bigger festivals like at st. anne's park.
"hi." you say with a soft smile on your face, rubbing a hand over your belly; it helped rock you to sleep when he wasnβt there. it was a habit.
he drops his sunglasses on the ring dish in your hallway, his eyes averting to you sitting on the couch. his beautiful blue eyes soften as he watches you, a smile spreading across his lips.
sweat rolls down his face his blonde hair sticking to his forehead.
"hey, babe." he greets you again, stepping closer to you as he loosens a tiny black button on his shirt.
"good show?" you continue rubbing circles onto your stomach through the thin fabric of your pink nightgown.
he nods his head. "lots of energy from the crowd tonight."
you smile. "that's great." you pat the cushion next to you, gesturing for him to take a seat.
he unties his shoelaces and then sinks into the seat next to you with an exhausted sigh, his hand covering yours on your belly.
"how is she?" he asks, referring to the baby girl in your stomach.
"she's good. she kicked twice today." he watches your face light up as you talk about her like a ray of sunshine.
his heart flutters, scooting closer to you on the couch and guiding your face to rest in the crook of his neck.
you didn't care if he was sweaty. he was bobby.
he does a double take while guiding your head, squinting his eyes in the dim lighting of the living room.
"what-" he starts with a whisper but soon cuts himself off.
you giggle, remembering what you did to your hair this morning.
his fingers thread into your short hair, running it past his soft digits and eyeing the new length.
"babe," he sings cautiously, his voice cracking just a tiny bit.
"hm?" you ask, your cheeks flushed red.
"did you..." he can't even finish his sentence.
you nod slowly while biting your lip. "did i...?"
"your hair." he blurts out.
your eyebrow perks up. "yeah. i did it myself this morning."
his eyes widen at this moment. "you did this by yourself? i thought you went to the salon."
you shake your head. "nope. all me."
he touches your hair again, slowly admiring, before he squints at you suspiciously.
"how long did you stand for? you're supposed to be resting all day, the baby could-" he stresses, his face edging closer to you with a small pout.
you grab his face in your hands, his face flushing red. "stop stressing. im fine."
"but shes due any day now." he says, his voice small.
you giggle lightly. "im fine, bobby. anyways, do you like it?"
he shakes off all the stressful thoughts, being brought back to your hair conversation. "like it?" he smiles.
you grin spreads wider, loving every second of his excitement.
"you look beautiful. i love it." he kisses your cheek.
you adjust yourself on the sofa so your feet are over his thighs, and your back is resting against a fluffy pillow he got for you when you first bought your flat together.
you turned on the television, flipping through the channels and looking for a comfort movie to watch.
you settled on an old chick flick, settling back against the couch while bobby disappeared into the bathroom to shower from the gig.
you yawned, rubbing your belly to soothe yourself, trying to stay awake and focus on the movie you were watching.
bobby erupted from the bathroom in his sweats, running a hand through his damp hair. he sunk into the cushion next to you, putting his arm around your shoulders.
his eyes trail from the television over to your face, watching as you try to keep your eyes open, a small yawn escaping your lips.
he smiles slowly, trying to memorize the new you in every way possible, eyeing your new haircut and the way it shapes your face so naturally.
he loved seeing you try something new, and this had to be his favorite. the way you seemed so "at home" with something so foreign.
but the truth was, it fit you. the new you would have a child, you would become a mother. you were starting a new chapter with him.
you shifted your gaze over to bobby, checking to see if he was sleeping. instead, his eyes were on you, and it startled you as much as it warmed your heart.
"hi." you whispered.
he let out a tiny chuckle. "hi."
"you're staring." you blinked.
his soft fingers found their way into your hair again, rubbing patterns into your scalp. now you were really starting to fall asleep.
"i am." he admitted so easily and it immediately brings comfort and warmth to your heart.
"i think i'm obsessed with your hair." he says.
you burst out in laughter. "really?"
"mhm. you look goregous." he runs his nose along your neck.
you close your eyes at the feeling, bringing his head closer to you so you can kiss his forehead.
"thank you, baby." you say through a smile.
you felt his eyes on you more than once that night, and you couldn't help the flush on your cheeks.
you were passed out on the couch, your lips parted as your chest rose and fell lazily, bobby watching the end scene of the movie that was playing. he looked over at you, shifting his arm to angle your head more comfortably on his chest.
his lips curl into a smile as he brushes his fingers past your hair, watching as small pieces fall over your eyes. you sniffle in your sleep, snuggling closer towards his chest.
he laughs lightly, and it vibrates against your cheek.
he watches how peacefully you curl into him, realizing how much he loves you. the way you're so confident and strong, ready to start a new chapter of your life with him. he's thrilled, watching how you thrive every day, carrying your baby.
and he admires it.
"i think i just fell in love with you all over again." he whispers into your hair.
you heard it. your cheeks flush as his voice fills your ears like a soft melody, and your eyes flutter open.
you grab his face in your hands again, your thumbs running over his eyelids in a soft motion.
he looks down at you, his eyes full of wonder and admiration.
your hands slide down to his chest, and you position your fingers against his heart. you feel the way his heart throbs beneath skin, almost like it was waiting to jump out into your hands.
"i can feel your heartbeat" you whisper to him.
his expression softens. "i know."
you close your eyes softly with a tiny smile teasing your lips.
"it's just for you." he whispers.
you pull him in for a kiss, taking your time with it just like the first time he kissed you all those years ago.
"do you think i look better with short hair?" you ask.
he purses his lips in thought. "i think you look beautiful both ways. but this new look suits you."
"really?"
"really. it's so...you." he declares, running his fingers through your strands and curling one between his index finger.
you instantly blush at his words.
it's so you.
"I think I needed a change. I felt it, too. with the baby coming and all that," you say freely.
he hums lightly in response, letting you speak.
"i'm obsessed with it." he blurts out.
you chuckle. "you said that already, babe."
maybe he's just tired.
"i know. i needed you to hear it again." he kisses your forehead.

it's too late to go out. well, too late for you. you usually set out for the pub around six, and didn't mind stumbling home past midnight. but to get ready at nine thirty to meet the lads did not seem fun when you're in your pajamas, about to start the last season of your favorite show.
a text comes in from eli.
eli: "join us? there's a guinness here that looks realllllyy tempting and might be gone in three minutes"
you chuckle, sitting up in bed and responding as quick as you could.
me: "the last season of 'friends' is just as tempting."
while you wait for eli to respond, your mind starts to reel again. all the lads were there? like robert as well? you groaned with a roll of your eyes at the thought of him.
me: "is robert there?"
eli responds almost immediately.
eli: "yup. you two fight like cats and dogs"
eli: "might as well stay home"
you shook your head with a smirk.
me: "i'm on my way. just tell him to behave his ass or he'll really regret it."
eli: π

you arrive at the pub at ten. yeah, you took a while to get ready. and you weren't ashamed considering you felt good. you felt confident.
you spent nearly ten minutes doing your eyeliner and picking out a decent dress. even if it was just the pub, you wanted to feel good for once in a while.
a tight black dress that hugged your curves was perfect, with a nice thrifted leather jacket you bought at a christmas market with josh.
your tiny red purse full with a cig pack, your lipstick and a lighter was just enough for tonight.
κ«ΰ§
you step out of the cab, paying the driver and slamming the blue car door shut. your heels clacked on the grey concrete, leading up to the building of the pub. amber lights reflected through the windows, and music thumped throughout the building.
to your own surprise, robert's standing outside the pub with a cigarette between his fingers, one leg plastered on the brick wall behind him and his arms crossed.
he watches as you edge closer to him near the pub's entrance, and blows the cigarette smoke to the side of his face.
"you made it." rob greets you with a shit-eating grin.
you fake smile which quickly fades into a grimace, snatching the cig that lied between his fingers. "of course I made it. I heard there was an extra guinness for me?"
he chuckles, lurching off the wall to stand up straight. he towers over you, his height always intimidating you just a tad.
"you took too long. I drank it." he grins.
your expression drops. "hm." your face flames with anger. "good thing I brought my wallet."
your shoulder knocks his as you slide past him and through the doors, and he scoffs at the hard impact.
you and robert never got on. he was always the jerk in the corner, nose stuck in his notebook and his guitar always hanging too low. you were friends with eli and ryan, and wanted to keep it that way, but then the blue-eyed bass-playing bad boy, (woah that's a lot of b's) walked into your life once he moved schools.
he was always making stupid, crude jokes that pissed you off. and once school ended and it was time for uni, eli and the lads sat you down and told you they were not attending university. you were pissed. you and eli were supposed to have the best friend college experience, and it was all ruined because of their band.
you loved their band, their songs, everything. but you thought it was a highschool thing. you didn't think it was serious. and hell, it was serious.
robert would always tease you for going to uni and getting a life. when, in reality, you should have teased him; forbid their band never took off.
even when you were studying, they'd invite you to the pub for a drink and would go on and on and on about their recent gigs.
you were happy for them. except for robert. he'd always be the one making horrible jokes, calling you "one boring bird" for studying instead of going out- but it was a school night. what else did he want you to do? especially when you had exams the next day.
even though you never truly hated him, he was just a pain considering he always had something to say. he wouldn't shut up. ever.
snappy comments and arguing was your favorite thing to with him, probably because it was the only thing you could do with him.
he offered to buy you ice cream one time and you got so freaked out you left eli's picnic party saying you had a stomach ache. it was sooo freaky. he's rude, you're rude, it's normal.
κ«ΰ§
"she's in the house!!!!" eli threw his arms in the air as he watched you walk towards their booth in the pub.
you smiled with a tiny laugh, placing your purse down at the edges seat of the booth.
ryan and josh whooped as if they were at a soccer match, but you just laughed and realized how drunk they already were.
"the grump outside said he drank my guinness?" you rolled your eyes.
"he's a menace, that one. been moping all day." ryan shook his head.
"doesn't he always mope?" you said deadpan.
"don't worry about it love, i'll just buy you another one" eli brushed it off.
you smiled, taking a seat and sliding into the booth next to eli.
you had fun for a long time as drinks poured and wild music played. you shouted and laughed so hard your stomach hurt. you missed hanging with the lads; uni had you so busy all the time.
"hey." bobby walks in, swiping at his neck once, and then smearing something on the dark denim of his jeans.
you squint, and your lips curl into a grin. "what's up with you, then?"
his eyes fix on you. "what? nothing."
you hum slowly in response as eli huffs a laugh next to you.
"what's so funny?" bobby asks with a frown.
you burst into laughter as you notice the red mark on his neck, all of your thoughts mashing together with your drunk state.
"shit, rob. you finally had your first kiss?" you pout playfully.
his eyebrows furrow, and then his expression drops. "shut the fuck up."
the table continues to have a laugh, but he's running a shaky hand through his hair.
"where'd she run off to, huh?" you ask while blowing your cigarette smoke out while looking at the lipstick smear on his neck.
"dunno." he shrugs, his eyes not meeting yours. "said she had to go."
"maybe cause yer a horrible kisser" eli mutters.
you laugh even harder, not sure why the alcohol is tickling you so much.
"good one" you smack eli's palm.
bobby rolls his eyes, going back to the bar to grab a bottle of beer.
"someone's pissssed" you chuckle, drawing out your words.
κ«ΰ§
for the next hour, the tipsiness turns into something deeper. something more effective. you're really drunk by twelve. your eyes narrow and your head spins, but your mind manipulates it to feel amazing. especially with that cig between your red-painted nails.
you forget where you are. you forget the color of your dress. what you drank.
you smack your foot against bobby's leg playfully whenever he makes a joke that isn't funny, but the alcohol makes you think it is, and he continuously tells you to stop no matter how much he blushes.
"i have not been out with you guys in a long time" you slur.
"we know" eli says, half-dead, his head on the table.
you pat his back with a chuckle, watching as he almost falls asleep.
"lads,- and lady," bobby comes back with a bottle of alcohol you can't read with your blurred vision. "I pulled the strong stuff from the counter" he smiles lazily.
he pours some for the table, and you watch the way his lean figure towers over you. you never noticed how pretty his nose was or how he had longer eyelashes than you. how is that fair? you asked yourself.
"ooh gimme some" you hold out your shot glass.
"you sure you can handle it?" bobby asked.
a flicker of anger washed over your expression, almost taking offense or his statement. "you think i can't?"
"just sayin'" he shrugs. "i don't want to have to carry you home"
you wince at his words. "who says you're taking me home?"
"i am. that is- if you can't finish this drink." he waves the bottle in your face.
you put up your middle finger while blowing a clutter of cigarette smoke right in his face.
he doesn't flinch.
"what are you waiting for?" you ask.
"come on, love. i don't think..." he cuts himself off.
you're pissed now. what was he trying to say?
"you don't think what?" you ask sharply.
"i don't think you should have it." he says.
you freeze. who was he to make decisions for you?
"wow." you reply slowly.
"i didn't take you to actually be a complete dick." you spit out.
he rolls his eyes. "oh, come on. im trying to keep you safe."
"rob, give her the fucking drink." eli waves his hand lazily.
"since when do you care for my sake?" you snap.
the rest of the table goes quiet, and bobby's lips move to speak again.
but you interrupt him.
"is it cause i'm a woman?" you ask with pure curiosity in your voice.
"here we go again," eli buries his face in his hands.
"what?- no! God, you take everything so fucking seriously." bobby rolls his eyes.
your eyes have daggers in them, like you were three seconds away from standing up and reaching across the table to choke him to death.
"i'm just tryna say that you're way to drunk already-" bobby tries to explain, but your anger cuts him off again.
"come on, rob. you drank more than me! i'll be the one carrying you home," you shouted back at him.
ryan and josh exchanged "ooohs" but you ignore their drunk state.
"you're fucking dramatic." bobby scoffs.
"you know rob, i'm fucking sick of you." your voice just barely breaks as you point a stern finger in his face and scoot out of the booth.
he sighs, shaking his head as he watches you stomp away, your cute heels making a sharp sound on the wooden floors of the pub.
"fuck" he rubs his eyes.
"you fucked up. again." josh shakes his head.
"can you not remind me? thank you." bobby's face scrunches.
"come on, lad. if you like her so much why do you always make her feel like shit?" eli asks while fluffing up his hair.
"i'm not trying to! it just comes out and then she acts like a total bitch sometimes I just want to snap back"
"fix it." eli says, taking a drag from your cigarette that you left behind at the table.
"fix what?"
the lads stare at him blankly.
"go find her." ryan finally speaks.
bobby's eyebrows furrow. "why? she'll beat the shit out of me!"
"maybe you need to be beaten the shit out of" eli slurs with a chuckle.
κ«ΰ§
you're in the women's bathroom, scrubbing your face inside the marble sink.
you didn't cry. you wouldn't. not because of robert.
because he was a piece of shit and had to state that you couldn't handle alcohol would prove exactly how weak you were. and you weren't.
you open your purse and reapply your black eyeliner, wiping just enough at the edges. you were fine. you'd go through the back door of the pub and never say bye to them. you'd call eli tomorrow with an apology.
suddenly, the door to the women's bathroom opens while your head is stuck in your purse, searching for your lighter.
as soon as it lights your cig, you sway your head to the side, taking a long drag.
"i'm sorry." you hear a familiar voice say behind you.
your head snaps around, and your heart starts to race. anger threatens to take over your senses as you try to compose yourself.
"what the fuck are you doing in here?" you ask.
he walks closer to you, slowly, like prey approaching a dangerous species. you blow your smoke right into his face, and this time he coughs. just slightly.
"listen, i was being stupid." he says, his eyes refusing to meet yours in embarrassment.
bobby runs a shaky hand through his hair, muttering a small, "i'm sorry" again.
"you're fucking pathetic. you can't even look me in the eye when you're talking to me." you mutter.
his eyes slowly meet yours. "fuck. I screwed up, okay? please, are we cool?"
any ounce of calm in your body is gone. vanished.
"seriously? that's it? you can't just beg me to forgive you. you made me look weak out there. you know I can handle alcohol and you just act like a complete prick all the damn time. i'm sick of it." you spit out.
"I know. I know." bobby nods lazily.
"you know? come on, keating. im done playing games with you." you roll your eyes.
"listen, i didn't mean to. i can't act normal when im around you, and it just-" he stutters, running a hand through his curls.
he walks towards you slowly, your noses bumping just barely, and you can hear the way his chest was knocking against his ribs nervously.
"i hate you." you whispered, looking down at his lips.
"no, you dont." he whispered back, watching as your eyes darted from his lips to his eyes over and over again.
his fingers danced across your cheek and placed a strand of hair behind your ear, right before he leaned in to kiss you.
"don't." you turned your head.
his head jerked back in surprise at your words. "what?"
you closed your eyes. "come on, rob. what are we doing?" you asked slowly.
"im being honest with you." he pleads, following your eyes as they fix on the dirty white tile of the bathroom floor.
"no you aren't. i cant do this." you shook your head.
he grabs your wrist as you slide past him, asking for your attention one last time.
"please, just let me talk. for once."
you huff once, and then cross your arms over your chest. "what?"
"i like you. okay?" bobby starts with a long exhale.
your eyes widen.
"ive always liked you. even when i haven't been the nicest, i just always screw up when im near you. so no, i didn't mean to talk to you that way-"
you tilt your head as you listen to him confess.
"I didn't even notice how incredibly rude that was until you pointed it out. i was just being stupid, and it was a bad choice for a joke." he admits.
"its fine." you say with a sniffle, bringing your cig up to your lips again.
"are you sure?" he asks with a squint of his eyes.
you nod. "mhm."
bobby comes closer to you, slowly again, reaching his fingers out to brush your wrist.
you don't argue.
he guides you back towards the sink, pressing your hips against the marble counter.
"rob, i dont want to rush this." you say carefully.
"we dont have to." he leans in, his minty breath mixed with the smell of the alcohol he drank earlier fanning down your neck.
a shiver crawls up your spine as goosebumps coat your skin, and your eyes flutter shut.
"i fucking hated you three minutes ago" you breathe out as you feel him edge even closer, his lips inches from your neck.
"hated? meaning you dont hate me anymore?" bobby asks with a sly smile.
"dont fish for it." you say.
he chuckles, letting it echo in your ear.
"please let me kiss you." he whispers against your lips.
you smile slowly.
he leans in, his lips gently brushing against yours teasingly, almost asking for permission before he fully gives himself to you.
you nod once, and that's all it takes for bobby to kiss you deep.
your hands fly to his hair as his hands tuck under your thighs in one motion, moving you to sit up on the counter.
"fuck." he breathes against your neck, trying to tell himself you're real and his dream of always wanting you coming true.
you laugh into the kiss as you feel his lips against yours, and he pulls back to take a deep breath. "I thought you didn't want to rush this?" he asks as you tug his brown strands of hair.
"fuck that," you breathe against him, inviting him in again, his hands steady on the small of your back.
after a few long kisses, you place your hands on his chest to steady him. "rob." you say, but he doesn't pull away.
his lips continue their trail down your neck, and you bring your hands to yank at his shirt roughly. you say his name a few more times to calm yourself down.
"what is it?" he asks, out of breath.
"i'm...drunk." you say, your pupils wide and lazy.
"i know." he says with a tiny giggle as he places a kiss on the inside of your palm.
"and so are you." you say slowly.
he stands up straighter, fixing the buttons on his shirt that you attacked just seconds ago.
"what are you getting at?" he asks with one brow perked up.
"will you still want me tomorrow?" you ask shyly, a blush creeping up your cheeks.
tonight you were buzzing with the daze of the alcohol. tomorrow you'd be back to normal.
"of course," his lips brush yours again.
"i think i should be the one asking you that." bobby admits.
you drop your head to look down at your feet hanging off the ground, but its not long until he puts his fingers between your chin and forces your eyes to his.
"i do want you." you whisper.
"then that's all i need." he grins, pulling you in again.
κ«ΰ§
you two erupt from the bathroom around one.
"the fuck were you two takin so long?" ryan asks.
"i got lost." you pull a few messy strands of hair behind your ear.
"and I found her." bobby adds with a pointed finger.
eli's passed out, and josh's head is on his shoulder. they look like two dead bodies.
"did you poison them?" you ask.
"its all rob's fault." ryan said.
bobby's eyebrows furrowed as he tried to protest.
"you put out the strong stuff. it knocked them out." ryan explains.
"never leave them with that bottle again." you point a finger at bobby's chest.
he chuckles. "copy that."
"i guess we're the ones having to carry them home." you say while finishing the last sip of your guinness.
"no way." bobby whispers in your ear.
you turn to face him, your brow perked up in suspicion.
"what's on your mind, keating?"
"you." he smiles.
before you know it, rob's tugging you out of the booth and into the cold streets of dublin. you inhale the fresh air for a quick moment before the night dissolves into slight drops of rain. you smiled, throwing your arms out freely.
"shit." bobby looks up at the pour, shielding his eyes from the rain.
"c'mon, love, lets go. it's pouring." he squints at you.
you look at him on the steps of the pub, your lips curled into a loose grin.
"come here." you say, your face dripping in water.
"are you crazy? get out of the street." bobby waves you over with his hand.
"no." you say, standing your ground.
rob sighs. "i'm not playing around." he says, his tone sharper this time.
"neither am i." you bite your lip, continuing to get drenched.
you remove your leather jacket, tossing it at bobby's face. he catches it with a sharp gasp, not expecting that.
"you afraid of a little water?" you tease, letting the rain soak your dress that now clung to your skin.
he sighs deeply, placing your jacket on the railing of the pub and scurrying over to you in the middle of the street.
"listen,- what if a car comes?" he asks frantically.
"there's no one driving at this hour." you mutter against his lips.
he looks at you through wet eyelashes, admiring your glistening skin and pretty smile.
"you're crazy." he shakes his head, looking down at your lips.
"i know."
"i've never met anyone like you."
"i know."
"do you?" his eyebrow lifts.
you nod your head while biting your lip. "but am i better than that other girl?"
he squints. "what-"
"earlier. her lipstick was on your neck." you say shyly.
he giggles. "come on, love."
"be honest." you don't let up.
"of course you're better than her. i didn't even get her name."
you cluck your tongue once. "what are you waiting for to take me home, then?"
his expression drops, but he continues to tug you closer to him by your hips. "im waiting for you. you're so stubborn, got me stuck in the rain."
you chuckle, cupping his cheeks to kiss him hard once more. "let's go."
he smiles, tugging your hand as you run off into the rainy night.

rein me in - josh jenkinson
pairings: josh jenkinson x reader
summary: josh comes home to dublin after inhaler finish their north american tour. little does he know, you've just returned from uni, graduated, and ready to continue life in dublin.
content warning: fluff .α
βΛ.β.
you were sat on the late bus, earbuds with the smiths sunk in your ears, the rhythm of the whole "louder than bombs" album on repeat for the last eight hours.
you couldn't remember the last time you were in dublin. you didn't even come home for winter break.
the late london train arrived in the dublin station at last, and you grabbed your luggage as soon as you heard the woman over the speaker declaring your arrival.
you breathed in the fresh air as you stepped onto the platform, walking onto the long cobble streets you missed so much.
βΛ.β.
"mam?" you asked as you unlocked the door painted with a dark shade of blue.
"love? that you?" your mam squinted in the doorway.
"yeah, ma." you sighed, exhausted from your travel but still managing to give a soft smile.
your mother wrapped you in a tight hug. "you're graduated! i'm so very proud of ya!" she squeezed you hard.
you chuckled, trying your best to match her excitement.
"im gonna call everyone and tell 'em you're home!" she smiled.
"you don't have to-" you started.
"well, come inside for tea, tell me all about it!" she waddled into the kitchen.
you laughed, carrying your luggage through the door and locking the front door.
βΛ.β.
"one question for you, love." your mam said as she lit a cigarette.
"why didn't you come home for break?" she asked, taking a drag.
you sighed. you couldn't tell her exams. it was the truth, but it looked like a cover up. you needed to study. college was serious.
"ma...why are you still smoking?" you shook your head in dissapointment.
"i'm lonely." she shrugged.
"i suppose I didn't come home because I was busy with work. I have bills to pay, books for classes to buy, which are really fucking expensive." you laughed.
"welcome to the real world" your mam chuckled, her rough laugh turning into a chainsmoker's cough.
"ma." you shook your head, grabbing the cig. "no more."
"you're no fun." she shook her head.
"I'm trying to protect you. cancer isn't a joke." you scolded.
"cause you want to keep me alive until your wedding?" she joked.
your face dropped. "come on ma, that's not funny."
"ah, I'm sorry." she patted your hand over hers. "listen, tell me about something other than classes. any lucky lads?"
you shook your head. "no."
"oh. I know why," she sang.
your eyes shot up. "...why?" you asked slowly.
"the lad who used to live here. you two were quite inseperable. just came back with his band." your mother waved the words around like they were nothing.
but you knew.
josh.
"oh, josh?" you asked while you cleared your throat.
she nodded her head.
"we grew apart. he's isn't the reason im not married, mam." you grimaced.
"yeah, okay" she said.
"I'm gonna arrange something for you tonight." she patted your shoulder, walking into the living room.
"arrange something? like what?" you asked, puzzled.
"like a grad party." she shouted from the living room.
you sighed, your face falling into your hands.
"arrange something" for your mam meant invite the whole neighborhood. and now that her memory was fresh with josh, she was definitely calling his folks.
"ma, I'll be back." you grabbed your jacket, heading out the door.
βΛ.β.
you pressed your back against the wall of some brick building you didn't care for, frantically pulling out your cigarette pack.
your mam smoked. you hated it. but it got the best of you sometimes. you were glad it didn't affect you as bad. and today, you needed it.
why would she bring up josh?
he was your best friend. you met at an ice cream shop when you were fifteen, you ordered the same flavor and then you accidentally dropped your cup, so he bought you a new one.
you talked about bands for hours, exchanged digits, and then called each other each day. you didn't go to his school, but one of your mates eli had a close connection with him.
they formed a band, and you were with them at every rehearsal. you always felt something in your heart for josh, but couldn't pin what it was. even if you did tell him, you figured it was just a stupid crush and he was your best friend.
their band blew up before you could confess. and then tour swooped him away.
and college captivated you, so you left for london, and he left for stardom.
βΛ.β.
"y/n?" someone asked as you took a drag.
you slowly turned your head, only to be met with the one and only josh.
speak of the fucking devil. angel. wait. you have to respond so you don't look weird- "josh?" you asked quickly, your eyes widening.
he chuckled. "yeah. its nice to see you. my mam just called to tell me you were in town. I was on my way to your house." he stuffed his hands in his pockets.
"I wonder who told her," you laughed. "mams been telling everyone I'm home." you rolled your eyes.
"I remember her. she was fun." josh nodded.
"yeah. uh,- you're also back, right? how are the lads?" you asked, scratching your neck.
"they're good, we're good. tour's a lot of work, but we're holding up. you should come see us."
your eyes widened. "like at a gig?"
"oh- no. I meant like you should just go see them- maybe at the pub or something"
"oh! sorry-" you chuckled.
"no, you're good. you could also come to a gig if you want to. we're playing at anderson's tonight." josh let out a nervous laugh.
"mam's having a party for me tonight." you sighed, biting your lip.
"oh. that's totally okay, don't worry." he brushed it off, but you could see the longing in his eyes.
"no." you rushed to say. "I could tell her its not a big deal. I'd rather see you guys anyway."
"what? isn't it your grad party?" josh asked.
"yeah, but...I missed you guys." it slipped out.
josh's expression softened.
"see you then." he pulled you in for a tiny hug, and you gasped at the contact.
you didn't expect it, but you didn't mind it either.
you'd miss the hugs he'd give you whenever you snuck a cig outside of class or went to his gigs and he'd come off the stage asking you how you liked it.
"see you" you waved goodbye, placing your cig up to your lips again.
βΛ.β.
you didn't know what the dresscode was for anderson's.
you settled on a long sleeve red dress, ruffles at the edges, the length down till mid-thigh.
you wore black tights and shiny black loafers, with a golden button to match your gold hoop earrings. maybe it was too much?
but josh thought it was perfect. "you look stunning." he breathed, coming closer to you carefully like you were made of glass.
"hi." you blushed, patting his back as you settled into the hug.
"is that-" ryan pointed at you.
"no fucking way!!" eli shouted, interrupting ryan's thought.
you could tell they were tipsy already.
"hey" you waved shyly, pulling away from josh.
"y/n? that you?" bobby squinted at you through the glass of his guinness.
you nodded enthusiastically.
"you look good. how was uni? y'know, since you were the only one of us who actually got a life" eli joked.
you chuckled. "it was fun. i'm going into photography."
"good for you, good for you" ryan nodded.
you smiled, looking at josh, who rolled his eyes at the lads' slurred responses.
"music photography," you sang with a grin as bobby passed you a beer.
"ohhhh hell yeah" eli nodded.
"we'll call you up for a shoot- are you planning on staying in dublin?" he asks.
"yeah. there's some great studios around my mam's house." you nod.
βΛ.β.
the show was amazing. you stood right in front of josh, gripping onto the barricade and your guinness as you sang familiar lyrics from your teen years.
you remember when eli was in the process of writing "it wont always be like this", and hearing it live rather than in his dad's garage was a much better experience.
the way he looked at you and occasionally shot you a wink made your heart beat faster than it normally did, and you realized if all this time you were just hiding from your feelings about josh.
"you did great." you praised, sweaty from jumping up and down and a bit drunk from the refills.
"thanks." josh gave you a lazy smile, removing his guitar by the strap delicately.
"hey, can i talk to you?" your fingers were tied in anxious knots, your hair frizzy and covering your forehead.
josh downed a can of beer- or maybe it was an energy drink? you couldn't really see because the label was blurred from your very drunk vision.
"sure." he swallowed, placing the can down.
you stepped to the far side of the stage, pulling him into the dark corner. applause from the crowd was still very noticeable with over-excitement.
"ive been thinking." you started off with a deep breath.
josh raised his eyebrows when you didn't continue. "you have?"
you nodded slowly. "yeah- uh,"
just calm down. its josh.
"it's about...us." your eyes finally met his.
his body stiffened, almost like he was preparing; or at least hoping for this moment.
"remember senior year? when we got really drunk and snuck into the pub during karaoke night?" your cheeks grew hot.
he tried to cover up a smile, but let it slip out regardless. "yeah."
"well, i've been thinking about that night." you muttered.
"me too." he scratched his neck with a nervous laugh.
you smiled. "yeah?"
he nodded.
"all the time. every time we come back to dublin I hope to see your face. but now you're home, so I'm beyond happy." he confessed.
"josh," -you breathed in with a soft smile- "God, that's really nice to hear." you laughed.
he chuckled. "i've always liked you. I don't know if it was obvious, but..."
"really?" you gasped.
he nodded.
"me too. I just thought if I told you, it'd ruin our friendship. and I would never do anything to hurt our friendship."
"I'm glad you're still here." his finger lifts to brush your cheekbone.
you don't wait any longer before you lean in for a soft peck on his lips, watching as his cheeks redden.
you giggled, running off into the crowd. "I'll see you around, rockstar." you wink as you travel deeper into the night.
he laughed, shaking his head.

summary: bobby has to go on tour again. but you're suffering. he won't leave you alone, not again.
content warning: mentions of postpartum, melancholy, hurt/comfort, fluffy fic .α
authors note: guys. this was emotional.
you were sat in the kitchen around midnight, your head between your hands, bobby's sleepshirt nearly falling off your shoulder. your hair was a mess, and your body felt scattered and drained.
the door creaked open, and then slammed shut. you couldn't even look up. the stress of taking care of way too much was killing you.
work, bobby on tour, your child; everything was too much.
the dark circles under your eyes deepened each day, and bobby started to notice.
"love?" he asked, dropping his jacket on the coat hook.
you sighed.
what now? more news about him leaving you again?
him and the band had just organized their tour schedule for north america, and bobby was about to be back on the road again.
his hand landed on your shoulder, asking silently for your attention. you slowly turned around on the stool, showing him your condition.
"baby? why are you still up?" he asked, his brows furrowing with concern as he looked in your dark eyes and pale face.
"i cant sleep without you." you muttered, your chin quivering on the verge of falling tears.
"i'm home." he kissed your temple. "lets go to bed."
"i can't, rob." you nearly whined.
"why not?" he asked with a tired sigh, rubbing your shoulders.
"its too much. everything is too much." your face scrunched.
he let your statement sit for a little, his face softening with understanding.
"come on. lets go." he dragged you off the stool at the counter, his hands holding you up by your waist.
βΛβΉβ
you collapsed into bed, your eyes fluttering shut. you didnβt know the last time you went to bed early, taking care of your son every day and night nonstop.
bobby was never home to.
"how is he?" he asked while unbuttoning his shirt.
"good." you nodded, opening your eyes slowly.
bobby tried to smile, but the only thing that he felt was pain from your suffering.
he hated seeing you like this.
his bare chest gleamed in the dim lighting of your bedroom as he walked over to the wooden crib next to your bed.
he cradled his small cheek, and then smiled.
"he's beautiful." he whispered.
you hummed in response. bobby looked up at you, drained from all of your energy, not being able to pay attention to your baby.
"how long are you here for?" you whispered as he moved into bed. his weight created a dip in the mattress, and he pressed a soft kiss to your forehead.
"as long as you want me to stay." he answered, brushing his fingers along your hairline.
"no, rob. when do you leave for tour?"
"i know you're talking about tour. i wont leave you if you aren't okay by yourself." he told you.
your heart stuttered. what? but he had to tour.
"you don't look well. and you aren't talking to me. i know it's not just about him." bobby notices, brushing your cheek with his soft digit.
the tears are on their way. and this time, you can't stop it. "rob..." you trailed off, the tears slipping down your soft cheekbones.
"shh...just talk to me." he pulls you closer to him on the bed. you laid on his chest as his fingers drew soft patterns in your hair.
"i want to love him. i do. and he's beautiful," you sobbed into his chest.
"but my body is so tired..and i just- i can't even look at him." you admitted, your voice breaking with each word.
the truth hurt. but it was right. and it needed to come out.
"you need sleep." was all he said, rubbing his hand up and down your back.
every day this month after he was born you felt tired. lonely. you couldn't even look at him properly. hold him properly. and bobby noticed. he's found you in the kitchen every day late at night.
even when he was home, you'd sneak onto the porch after midnight to just feel the breeze. a sign that life still moves while you're frozen in time.
βΛβΉβ
bobby woke up to the sound of the water in the shower against the wet tile of the bathroom across the hall. he ran a hand through his hair, looking for you, but you were showering.
bobby looked over at charlie, picking him up as he cooed softly.
"morning, buddy" he kissed charlie's forehead and changed his diaper.
after he finished, he padded across the marble floors into the kitchen and sat charlie in his little seat. he fed him and put him down for a nap again.
but you were still showering.
bobby grew worried, checking down the hall to see if you came out of the bathroom. you didn't.
he checked if the door was locked, but it wasn't. he pushed open the silver doorknob, the hot steam from the shower welcoming him into the warm atmosphere.
his heart knocked against his chest, but he tried to remain calm. what was taking you so long?
the warm water hit his back as he arrived behind you.
you felt his presence, the way the air shifted once he joined you, but continued to wash your face, acting like you were fine.
when you rinsed your face, you just started straight at the wall, unable to talk to him.
if you spoke, you would break down into tears. if you hugged him, you would fall apart in his arms. if you looked at your son, everything would soften as soon as it would crumble.
bobby's arms wrapped around your waist, pressing his chin on your shoulder.
"you aren't talking to me." he said over the loud pour of the hot water.
you squeezed your eyes shut, unable to look at him. his fingers moved up to your chin, turning your body to face him.
"you know i'm here for you, right?" he asked gently.
you looked up at him through wet eyelashes, not sure if it was from tears or the shower. maybe both.
he pulled you in for a hug, and you collapsed against his chest.
"rob, it's too difficult" you sobbed, rubbing your nose against his neck.
"what's too difficult?" he asked, running his hands through your wet hair.
"everything. im not the same. i just wish everything could go back to before." you cried.
he cupped your face in his hands, kissing your forehead. "no. our baby is sleeping down the hall and he's waiting for his mother to hold him." he said.
that broke you even more. you sobbed openly into the crook of his neck, letting out everything this past month had pained you with.
"he wants his mother." bobby said. "and you don't wish that. you carried him for so long, and now we have to cherish it, right?" he asked softly.
you nodded as you sniffled in your tears, and he wiped them away.
"let me help you." bobby said, his tone gentle as he placed a tender kiss to your lips.
he grabbed the shampoo, gently running his fingers into your hair. he directed you to lean back, applying the hair wash carefully. your eyes closed at the soft feeling. you don't remember the last time he was this gentle with you.
when you exited the shower, he wrapped a gray towel around you and kissed your shoulder.
"he's crying." bobby said with a sigh.
"go. i'm okay here." you smiled.
"i missed your smile." he said, his eyes softening.
"me too." you blinked through wet eyelashes.
bobby quickly dressed and then scurried down the hall to attend charlie.
βΛβΉβ
you walked into the bedroom shortly after to see him giving charlie a bottle, humming a soft tune as he cradled your baby in his arms.
you leaned your head against the doorframe, taking in this moment. you never wanted to forget it.
"is that a new one?" you asked.
he turned his head to see you in the doorway, in his gray t-shirt, hanging down by your thighs.
he smiled softly with a tiny nod. you came up behind him, giving him a small peck on the shoulder.
he turned his head to speak to you behind him as he held charlie.
"it's something me and eli were messing around with yesterday." he discusses the rhythm, and then hums the melody again.
"its nice." you compliment him.
bobby smiles, turning his body to fully face you.
you peer down at charlie with wide eyes, mesmerized by your baby.
"he's yours, you know." bobby giggles.
"no." you say, looking up at him. "he's ours."
bobby kisses your cheek. "do you want to hold him?"
"i do. but i'm scared. what if he cries?" you hesitated.
"you're his mother. he'll love you." bobby reassures you, placing charlie in your arms.
you gasp at the weight of him, but you enjoy it. he's yours. he's beautiful. and...
"he's perfect." you finish your own thought.
bobby hums in response, standing right there next to you.
"hi, love." you spoke to charlie as a few happy tears roll down your cheeks. you smile through tears.
"oh, God." you laugh. "i'm sorry."
"don't be sorry, baby. he loves you." bobby rubs a soft pattern of circles on your waist.
"you're a great mam." he whispers before you both settle against the headboard, slightly rocking charlie to sleep.
