warnings:Â mentions of drinking,smoking,
preview: Elijahâs just trying to enjoy his night out, but he has to ask yet another person for a lighter, whatâs the worse that would happen?, itâs not like heâs under a bunch of different substances.
I turned on my heal and headed for the last floor on the top. I followed the last stair case till I made it up, I saw different corners and balconies, as well as lots of different people smoking in these corners. I slowly walked around, hoping to find a corner that was vacant. I decided to walk as far as I could maybe, I would get lucky.
And just like that, I saw what looked like a corner that was alone. But in order to get to the balcony you had to turn towards a weird angle. So I folded my body in whatever way I needed to get out there.
After squishing my way through I made it out. This is just what I needed I thought to myself. And for the first time all night I felt content. I made my way over to the rail to get a better view of the city. You could see the numerous lights that lit up the New York City night. You could also get a view of the Brooklyn bridge. And what a coincidence I could also see the venue we were going to play tomorrow, The Rooftop at Pier 17.Â
I began to get lost in my thoughts when I heard the someone join me on the balcony. At first I heard the shuffle of their feet, but didnât put much thought into who was here. But then i smelt a perfume, one that felt familiar, and feminine. I peaked over swiftly and I saw what looked like the outline of a woman. Fuck yeah, I thought, from her shadow she looked kind of hot. Maybe I would get lucky tonight. I had finished my cigarette a while ago, and now deciding I need a joint. So I looked through my jacket and again. That fucking lighter. Great, this is the second person tonight that I have to ask for a light. This is stupid.
Feeling like a huge idiot, I turned over to face her and slowly approach her, trying not to scare away my only chance for a light. "Uh, you don't happen to have a lighter do ya?" I spoke every so slightly. The woman looked over for a second and then responded. âyeah, uh sureâ. I saw as she began to dig through her pockets for a few seconds, finally landing wherever she had placed the lighter. She pulled it out and handed it over to me.
As I grabbed the lighter from her hands I put the joint in my lips, and lit the end. I slowly inhaled the smoke, making sure to take a big hit. Wanting to feel something, right about now. After letting the smoke heat up my insides I blew it out, not thinking I blew it out in her face. I thought it would be a fun way to spark a conversation. I saw as she began to lightly choke on the smoke, and try to get rid of the smoke by waving her hand in front of me.
Laughing I spoke,âYou canât handle smoke or what?â I asked. She didn't seem to fond of my words, and you could see a look of irritation on her, âWhat are you even talking about?â she replied. âWell you got all choked up when I blew the smoke in your face, you think youâre too much of a saint to be around people who smokeâ I spoke, trying to get her to lossen up.
But now she looked mad, or pissed...maybe both. Who knew I was just trying to have fun. I guess she was too stubborn, her loss not mine I thought to myself. âDo you know how to mind your own businessâ she spoke back to me. Great now she's mad, I wasn't the best with women and their feelings. Plus I had too much in my system to think straight. But that was the point. Right?
âWhat, a little comment ruffled your angle wingsâ I said, as I continued to look at her. âWhat lets you think you can say all this shit to me?â She barked out. âSheesh, I was trying to make conversation with my balcony partnerâ I said, âGuess youâre too soft for a normal conversationâ I spoke out so softly, hoping she wouldn't catch it.
Trying to change the topic I spoke again, âLet me guess, you donât drink either, you think itâs too bitter.", she looked really fucking mad now. âWhat the fuck is your deal, canât you go bother someone else dudeâ she said. Then she turned back around, giving me her back.
âItâs Elijahâ I said, âI donât care about your name, can you just leaveâ she replied, as she turned back around to look at me. âWell sweetheart, I was actually here first so, if someoneâs leaving itâs not going to be meâ I spoke out. Because let's be real, I was here first. So first come, first serve. She was starting to kill my buzz, I started to think to myself. Right then and there I saw that she had a joint of her own, she inhaled deeply, and blew the smoke out in my face. touchĂ© I thought.
After that interaction she turned on her heal and left. Finally. The balcony all to myself. I began to lose tack of time, but I knew time had passed because I was starting to reach the end of my joint. And I was barely walking right, and I felt like jello. As for my thoughts, I had none. That's how I knew I reached cloud 9.
I was begging to get bored and wanted the company of my lads. So I headed out of the balcony, and retraced my steps towards the second level. Where I could see the lads still huddled around the same table I left them at. So I did the only logical thing. I began to yell to get their attention. "ROB, YO ROB, LAD!" I yelled. But I got no reaction. maybe I should try again. "RYAN, RYANN, LAD!" I yelled out. Somehow that time it did work because they all looked up and saw me from where I was standing. Then I saw as Josh shook his head, and I saw Bobby run across the dance floor, and up the first flight of stairs.
He eventually made it up to the second level, and came to join me. "Eli, what are ya doing lad, come on let's go with the other lads" Rob spoke. "Yeah, I think that's a good Idea, did ya hear me yell yer name Rob?" I asked, beginning to stumble on my feet. "Ya I did mate, come on" he replied. He helped maneuver me towards the flight of stairs, as my hand was over his shoulder, almost using him as a crutch.
After making it to the bottom of the stairs, we walked across the dance floor and I saw lots of bodies all morphing into one, and all the lights. I stopped in my tracks a looked up in awe. Everything looked so ethereal. "woah" I spoke out. "Eli, I think we should call it a night soon" Rob spoke. "Eh, come on man, the nights just begun" I replied. He didn't reply, but just counted to drag my body to our table.
"Hey lads",I spoke as I could feel a smile breaking out on my face. "Who wants another round of drinks?" I asked all excited. "Eli, I think you've had enough for the night" Josh spoke. "Nah man, come on, one last round" I said. "Yeah ok, what do ya want Eli?", Ryan spoke. "That's what I'm talking about" I said. "Get me a glass of Rum" I replied. The lads looked at each other, probably knowing this wasn't going to end well. But they knew better than to try and ignore my requests.
Ryan headed to the bar and ordered the drinks. He then came back and handed me my glass. "Thanks, lad" I spoke. Ryan just gave me a nod, as a 'no problem'.
I washed down the glass within minutes, and everyone started acting weird. And this rum tasted weird. Nah, I want a refund, this club is janky, and so are the drinks. I made my way over to the bar, they were going to get a piece of my mind. I 'walked' or tried my best to walk over to the bar. Once I made it, I began barking out orders, "Does anyone fucking work here, or are we just ignoring the customers now!" I asked outloud. Within seconds Ryan and Bobby were at my side trying to drag me away from causing, yet another scene. "Yo, what are ya doing lad, get off me" I spoke as I felt Ryan and Bobby's hands on my back and shoulders. "Elijah, chill out man, you're gonna cause another scene dude, and we don't want that remember" Ryan spoke. "Yeah Elijah, you don't want Gary finding out, he's gonna cancel the tour" Bobby spoke. I murmured in annoyance and surrendered to their tactics.
We made it back to the table, âI think itâs time we goâ Bobby spoke. âYeahâ Ryan and Josh agreed in unison. They began leading the way to exit, and dragging me with them, making sure I wasnât left behind. Or worse
We made it towards the exit, but they began to pick up their pace, and I could only feel how I was being pulled along. And then we made an abrupt stop. I heard a womanâs voice, but Ryan and Bobby were in a way caging me in. Making sure I wasnât going to sprint off. So I didnât see what was happening.
Josh being his kind self replied,"Oh shit, sorry we didn't' mean any harm, my friend here was in a hurry please forgive us". I then saw as Josh moved over the tinniest bit and I saw who the women was. It was the girl from the balcony. I made eye contact with her, and before I could say anything she spoke,"Oh fuck off". She pushed through all four of us and making her emotions towards me very clear. And then she made it outside.
Hopefully I wouldnât remember any of this tomorrow I thought to myself. As I saw her walk away to the night.
