Because Minato had been pretending for far too long that things were alright. Because he was so tired with trying to pretend things were okay between them. Because some things were unable to be fixed, and Minato wasn’t sure that this could be fixed.Â

Tears - when had he started crying? - trailed down his face as he looked at Naruto. And the smile he gave was pained, not quite reaching his eyes.Â
“But we do nothing but hurt one another, and I can’t do it anymore. I’m sorry.”
They did nothing but hurt one another to keep the other’s attention. It wasn’t healthy, it wasn’t even right. And one day? It would destroy them both.Â

There were too many places he could really start with. The fact that he was alive being first and foremost. It seemed that Naruto didn’t even care about the potential political fallout of this, as if he could keep Minato safe from everything. There were some battles that couldn’t be fought no matter how much he wished, or how strong someone was.Â
There was always someone stronger. Always.Â
Really, there were too many problems for him to list, and Minato wasn’t about to be selfish enough to drop them all onto his son’s shoulders. Naruto was the Hokage. He had the village to worry about, and he didn’t need his father’s own concerns on top of everything else. It wasn’t fair. It wasn’t right to just come back and dump all of his problems onto Naruto.Â
(Sleepless nights, PTSD, nightmares, panic attacks, what wasn’t wrong with him in reality?)Â

He gives a smile, strained around the edges, pained in a way that he can’t quite hide in front of Naruto.Â

He couldn’t burden Naruto, not after all that he had done for him. Not after all that he continued to do for Minato. There was hardly anyone else alive that would put up with him, and really, what right did he have to dump his emotional baggage on the son that he had abandoned as a baby?Â

I’ve noticed that when i just begin threads, more often than not, I’m soon falling out of motivation for said thread. However, when I’m speaking to the mun in the PM’s, and we’re plotting, planning, and just talking, i tend to find the thread much more entertaining.
