Panels of Intellectual Chaos

The vampire and his dandy are back. Loosely based off of an old comic I did in college. First few panels were started in Sketches almost two years ago but finished in Procreate this weekend.

The last two parts were purely done in Procreate this weekend. Backgrounds are just amorphous grey since it’s a joke comic. Someday I might do a serious take on these guys.

Sketched this in Sketches then brought it into Procreate to do the actual paint. Could keep working on it but I don’t wanna loose the sketchy feel any more than I already have so I’m posting it and walking away.

Young adult Team Ebisu as they are in Boruto. There is a scene where they are drinking with Shino but I didn’t base this off that. This is just the standard after work (or mission) nominication. They are all rather drunk at this point—Udon is clearly reverting a bit, body fluid wise. The jitsu he can do with his mucus is really cool, so I forgive his childhood-always-drippy self.

Last but not least: Himawari, Denki, and Mirai—she’s a bit older but not part of the young generation in Naruto so I decided to include her with the kids of The Hidden Leaf. My mental criteria for these were that the character had to be in more than one chapter/episode and be an integral part of the overall world but still Konaha-sentric. Tento was pushing it a bit but is love his round cheeks. I wanted to add Shinki and other cool characters from outside the Leaf but I decided to do those in a different exercise.

Tento isn’t from the village but he was a major character for the Mujina Bandits arc. I like his manga style better than the anime and did more of that for this.

Playing around with Zen Brush 3 - I like how the colors are those in Chinese/ Japanese watercolor (gansai) in keeping with the traditional vibe of the program

Got seduced by dot brushes...but I’ve always wanted to visually represent this little dude’s ability. This is the first mildly successful attempt. Autodesk Sketchbook on my iPad Pro based off an old photo I took of a ball jointed doll I used to have.

I’m still getting used to drawing on glass. It’s much different than paper. I’ve tried the ‘paperlike’ screen protectors but they make it hard to see what I’m doing and absolutely shread my fingers. It’s like sharkskin. I’ve tried to research if there are ones that are just matte but not like sandpaper but I seem to be the only one with this reaction to it. Sure, I use the Apple Pencil while drawing, but if I’m just surfing the web or something, fingers are more efficient. And I like my fingertips! And the sounds the Apple Pencil make on the paperlike screen protector are horrendous. It’s nails on a chalkboard level.

Anyway, this cutie is from my Blue series—stories mainly about a family of blue skinned aliens and their adventures through time and space. This is Val Kin. Their species is non-binary—in the literal sense, they only have one genital type. So I use ne/nay for my pronouns. I just can’t get on the they/them wagon and “it” is just rude. So ne is ditzy and always staring into space with a dumb grin on nay face. Most everyone thinks ne is mental but ne just sees colorful bips all around all the time. It’s rather distracting, as you can imagine. Basically Val Kin sees energy. It comes off everything—particularly life forms. Ne can tell someone’s general mood and is good at sussing out lies once ne starts really studying all the reactions ne sees from the bips coming off others and how they correlate with the person’s current behavior.

So I’ve been working on my comic. Procreate is dangerous for comics. I ended up with far too small text and people. Since a lot of it is lost in the final pages, I grabbed all the interactions of Dan and Daniel from the pages and threw them together here.
