I started watching supernatural recently, which, of course, means Iâm now one step closer to finishing the holy trinity known as Superwholock. And so to celebrate hears a scene.
âI think Iâve got something.â Sam says finally, as Dean opens his second beer of the day, and sits across from him at the motel's small round table.
âAlright, lay it on me.â His brother responds.
âThe Doctor, a randomly appearingâŚspirit.â Sam starts, and his brother immediately catches the question in his tone. He even stops drinking just to give the younger man a look.
âYou donât sound so sure,â He remarks.
âSources vary, some say spirit, others say time traveler, a few even say alien.â He explains, and the look he got that time was even worse, the silence dragging for nearly a minute as the older Winchester cocked a brow and stared at him like he was five. Honestly, itâs not as if he wrote the webpages. ââŚA lot of those are from the uk.â
âAh.â Dean says in understanding, then he takes another swig of his drink. Sam barely avoided rolling his eyes as he got back on topic.
He scrolls through more articles and blogs even as he speaks, trying to find as much solid information as he can. âIts imagery has shown up all across history apparently, and all around the world. There's photographs, written records, mentions going back thousands of years.â
âAnd yet we havenât heard of it until now.â The older man snarks skeptically, and all the younger could do was shrug.
âMaybe dad thought it wasnât worth looking into. I mean some of these accounts are pretty far fetched, killer robots, lizard people. The amount you need to dig through to find anything solid on this thing. I wouldnât be surprised if dad just brushed it off altogether.â Sam tells him, but he could still see the uncertainty wedged between Dean's brows.
âMaybeâŚâ he drinks again, Sam moves on.
âAnyway, general consensus is; it shows up randomly, can take on different appearancesâ all humanâ according to records, but different faces, voices, and itâs known for being a bad omen. Wherever it appears, tragedy strikes. Things like shipwrecks, natural disasters, terrorist attacks, personal tragediesââ
âAnd murders.â Dean finishes, and the younger brother nods in confirmation. âSounds like text book demonics. A demon possessing different hosts, using the same name, wreaking havoc.â He assumes, coming to the exact conclusion Sam expected him too.
âYeah, Thatâs what I thought too, but I wouldnât be so sure.â He starts again, and Dean looks at him confused. âI mean, yeah, some say it shows up to cause mischief, but a lot more say the Doctor only comes to watch, not actually play a part in the events themselves. Hell, a few sources here even suggest it could be some kind of hero, a guardian angel, trying to protect humanity from disaster.â
âSooo?â Dean says, obviously waiting for him to clarify exactly what heâs implying.
âSo, most people are pretty convinced itâs not the Doctor causing the problems, just that they show up when something bad is about to happen.â He elaborates, and his brother takes a second to process that before speaking again.
âIn other words, not a demon?â He asked, though he didnât sound confused anymore, just like he wanted to be sure.
After which, Sam answered âNo, at least, I donât think so.â
Dean nodded, then drank again before he began spitballing. ââKay, so possibly an omen spirit then? Or something like it, showing up just before tragedies. That could be plenty of things. Hell, that could describe your standard reaper.â
âWell, plenty of them can shapeshift according to legend, though Iâve never heard of one just interacting with people like this, at least not without those people being close to dying.â Sam says back, though giving all the death that follows this thing, reaper doesnât sound too far fetched.
Meanwhile, as he starts looking into that angle, his brother finishes his beer and stands up. âRight. Well keep looking, see if you can nail anything down. And if thereâs anything we can do to stall it, kill it if necessary, keep it handy. Even if itâs not dangerous now, if we get on this thingâs bad side we need a way to deal with it.â He instructs while straightening his coat as if he was heading out.
âAnd what are you going to do exactly?â The younger man asked, confused, watching his brother, who seemed as if he were just going to leave while he did all the work looking into this.
âIâm gonna go check over the crime scene again, see if thereâs something we missed. If youâre right, and this Doctor thing isnât our guy, then we still have no clue what killed that girl.â Dean tells him, and yeah, fine, at least he would be working too.
âAlright. Call me if you find anything.â Sam says, and the older man nods quickly.
