Here's what the house looks like after the hurricane hit on Friday September 27th 2024.

The house is completely unlivable now after the hurricane hit.

My mom abandoned her two large dogs and refuses to try and get them, but my aunt is gratefully taking them in along with my cats. However, I don't have any funds right now to fully re home three dogs and two cats and need help getting them and I the items needed to survive until I can get help from FEMA.

Hello, I'm funding on behalf of my Mother, Sheila.

Recently my mother purchased a car in June, a 2015 Chevy Cruz, and we as a family were happy with it. For a while. After my mother purchased the vehicle, the dealer said the title would be mailed to us in 7-14 business days, and lo and behold, three months later and we still haven't received a title, which has caused significant financial issues due to tickets for not having the vehicle titled in my mother's name.

Along with no title, the car started behaving weirdly around a month ago: shutting off randomly, issues with electronic components, running hot as soon as it started-- and then it caught fire and completely burnt up.

We had insurance on the vehicle, and the insurance company is ready to pay out, but since we still have no title, we need to have a bonded title, which is going to cost some money we don't have.

My mom is a full-time student, but her money is sparse for classes. I'm (her daughter) on disability and can't help out. This was our only vehicle for our family, and we really need help getting a title and the ticket fees so we can get a new vehicle with the insurance money. We have several fees that need to be paid to get a title, as well as renting a car to go get the title in Atlanta (8 hour trip).

Fees are roughly: taxes on the car fee is $520, bond is $ 220, renting a car $500, and $150 for gas/food for the day, and a pet sitter for our dogs for the day/night is $200. Anything else donated will go towards fees towards the tickets.

It doesn’t stop there though, almost everything we think we know about nutrition is kind of bullshit.

You need 2000-2500 calories a day? There’s no evidence to support that claim. It’s fully a made up number.

Calories in - calories out = weight gain or loss’? Absolute bullshit. No credible scientist believes this anymore. Your body compensates for dieting in like a billion ways to the point where reducing calorie intake often results in long term weight gain.

2 liters of water per day? Again: a made up number. ZERO evidence.

The BMI? Not remotely based on science. Absolute bullshit.

Being ‘overweight’ or ‘obese’ is bad for you? Heavily disputed for all but the highest weight categories.

And of course: there is no evidence based way to lose weight and keep it off. The idea that people can decide to be thinner if not supported by evidence. Almost every study shows that almost all humans just keep returning to their set weight again and again.

Vitamin supplements? We still don’t really know why they sometimes work and sometimes don’t. Your body seems to decide whether to absorb them pretty much on a whim.
