As with all Miyazaki’s films there is a deep tug of nostalgia, memory, evocation of places of the imagination that could very well be real. It’s almost pointless to describe the stories, they are fantasies of far off places, often about coming of age, finding courage and independence, friendship - the universal stories. And they stay with you unlike any other animation ever has. Ponyo is one of his best.
