“would you believe me if i said the JOKER?” she asked, a confused smile appearing on her face “you know, from BATMAN?”

“The Joker? How is that even possible?” she said just as confused as she looked at the baby in Caroline’s  arms. The idea of Caroline having Alaric's babies paled in comparison to this.

               “ah – that’s better.” giving her a smile that showed her he was merely joking about getting offended over his ‘charm’. “no, no. it’s okay. go ahead. don’t hold anything back, you’ve always been here to cheer me up when i’ve been at my most broodiest. you know i’ll do the same for you.” stefan replies, sure there’s an edge of playfulness but he’s also being sincere. listening to her words, he’s doing his best to believe that she’s right but he just hated every single thing about it. he hates klaus and can’t stand even the thought of him using elena like this for a second round. and in fact, while he’s momentarily glancing away from her he’s lost in his thoughts of how much hatred and vengeance he has for the original before he’s gazing back at elena and shaking his head, “sorry, you just know it’s sort of my thing. to go a little overboard on the worrying about you. i just-” he nearly says it, tells her how much he loves her but simply shrugs pretending it wasn’t important instead. hopefully she just didn’t catch on. but the way she’s staring back at him like that and touching his face almost makes him want to go ahead and blurt it anyway as his hands come up to gently wrap his fingers around her wrists. “i guess that makes it a little more reassuring.” stefan’s sarcastic of course, but he yet truly does have to be a little grateful.

         Elena smiled back at him amused, shaking her head slightly at his reaction. "There's just a lot of stuff that's happened to me that I don't think you'd remember. Maybe we’ll work up to it." Though if anyone deserved a life without knowing a lot of what had happened in Mystic Falls is was Stefan. "It's okay, I know you're just worried. If you happen to remember, your capacity to care is something I like about you." she says in what she hopes is a soothing voice as she looks up into his eyes. She notices that he was going to say something else, but she doesn't bring it up just in case. Looking up at him still, she was hit with the almost overwhelming urge to kiss him. The more time she spent around Stefan, the more sure she was that he was the Stefan she had once known before everything had been turned upside down. But also the more time spent around this version of Stefan added to her urge to kiss him right then. There's a moment where she legitimately considers just giving into her feelings and doing it, but then she is filled with guilt and chickens out at the very last moment. "Let's go get some donuts. And then we can go see the city together." she said upon pulling back, hoping that he wouldn't notice or at least call her out on what had almost happened as she grabbed his hand and started leading him towards the door.

I know that I love you, Stefan. I know that. But my future? Our lives together? Those were things I was supposed to deal with as they came along. I was supposed to grow up.  Decide if I want to have kids and start a family. Grow old. I was supposed to have a lifetime of those choices, and…now? That’s all gone.  Hey, say it.  I don’t want to be a vampire, Stefan. I never wanted to be one.  I know. It’s okay.

Having yet another child was NOT what caroline imagined when people asked her what she wanted her future to be like, yet here she was, with three year old twins running around the room and a young baby in her arms. “—lizzie, josie, PLEASE.” caroline sighed, trying to settle the older two before she even began trying with the baby. “I’m sorry..” she said, looking over at the other person in the room.

When Elena entered the room, she was surprised by the the young baby in Caroline’s arms but not the girls that were running towards her. “Hey girls.” she said easily picking up Lizzie, who was giggling and taking Josie’s hand lightly with her spare hand.  “So are you babysitting? Or?” she motioned with her head to the baby as she took a seat next to Caroline, allowing both girls sit on her lap.

“I’m more of an old fashioned sort of dancer myself, but dancing it is.”

“I happen to be a fan of that. It’s NYC, I’m sure we’ll find somewhere where your old fashioned dancing fits in.”

“I have to admit that I’m pretty curious to see what kind of moves you have. So dancing.”
