…it was again that throwing away of whatever you have wanted for a long time—that instinct you have for non-realization, for evading anything that crystallizes, evading pleasure and content, because you have a passion for difficulties, as I have, a love of raising obstacles in order to have them to tear down, a love of complicating for the fun of unravelling, a love of tangling and botching to exert your spirit, your mind, your imagination, your emotions. Whatever you finally grasp, whatever finally comes your way, whatever materializes, is a kind of danger. It’s too simple, too joyful, it might make you happy, in an ordinary way. You won’t have it.
