I imagine everyone stayed with Toriel for a long time due to Clementine's twisted ankle. An injury that nasty is going to take time to heal properly, and it's not like everyone else could just abandon her, right? Besides, as much as Clementine needs rest, everyone else needs it too. Lying down for a bit and contemplating about the day they just had and the next steps forward sounds like a good idea.

Things seemed pretty peaceful for a while. Everyone got along with Toriel for the most part, eating her food, helping around the house, making her lonely little home a bit livelier.

Toriel was delighted. She doesn't need to wake up to a silent home anymore. This house finally felt alive again after so long. The ghosts of her failures, as both a mother and caretaker, can once more be put to bed by the new life in the house.

....But it's not like this could ever last, right?

Scientists detect a planet made primarily of water that seems unaffected, they had already sent scientists to that planet to investigate, but communication was lost, so they must send someone to recover the information. they forcibly send Simon on this mission.
