• Hershel no longer has a spleen after... "his injuries were so severe." He has sizable surgical scars on his abdomen from the emergency surgery that followed that incident.
• As a result of lacking a spleen, when he gets sick, it's gnarly. Even the common cold knocks him on his rear for a while. Overall, he tries to be health conscious about what he eats in an attempt to compensate.
• Layton gets a considerable amount of fan letters in the mail. Some are truly heartfelt and cute. Some are much less so. However, his favourite letters by far are from young fans who are inspired enough by his adventures that they develop an interest in puzzle solving or archaeology. He tries to respond to all of them that he can, always with encouragement, guidance, and support. He keeps all these types of letters in a special container and reads through them when he feels down or when he needs encouragement. It reminds him of who he's doing all this for and why. He often feels that Randall is the one who should be receiving them.
• Layton loves plants and flowers, but before Luke came along, he'd always inadvertently kill the ones he tried to raise by forgetting to water them on time. Fortunately, Luke seems to have a bit of a green thumb.
• Luke has nightmares sometimes. When they're particularly bad, he'll seek comfort from Hershel who gladly does whatever he can to help. Sometimes he'll offer specific advice or comfort depending on if Luke wants to talk about the contents of the dream. Other times, he'll talk about mundane things, hum, or tell a story depending on how badly his apprentice number one appears to be shaken up. Luke tends to curl up at his side and fall back to sleep there. When he does, like clockwork, Layton will carry him back to his room and tuck him gently back into bed.
• Des wrestles with his beliefs. He's torn in many directions inside; he'll claim one thing outwardly, but feel or believe a different way internally. That being said... sometimes, when he believes himself to be alone, Descole will go outside or on the roof of wherever he happens to be at the time. He'll look up at the sky, at the stars twinkling above him, at the cosmos beyond, and pray that his family is at peace. Sometimes he speaks to them. Sometimes he begs for guidance. Sometimes he begs for forgiveness. Sometimes he begs to know why he was the one left alive.
He later berates himself for what he perceives as foolishness.
He eventually does it again anyway.
• Clark sometimes gets just a little jealous of Hershel because Luke, his own son, seems to think of him as more of hero and mentor figure than he does his actual father... then the guilt bites him, knowing a lot of what Hershel has suffered in getting to where he is, not to mention what the man did to save his family. He doesn't blame Luke at all. More than all of that, he feels that he owes the man a great debt, though he knows Layton would never accept such a thing. A gentleman would never refuse to help a friend in need, after all.
• Luke loves to jump in leaf piles in Autumn. He's also a big fan of spiced apple cider—and so is the Professor!
• Luke is more interested in paleontology than he is in archaeology. He'd never say that to the Professor, though.
• Luke excitedly shows off his improvements in playing violin to the Professor whenever he goes back to London. Hershel is delighted by these small concerts and supports him with enthusiasm.
• Desmond and Raymond are also very supportive of Luke's musical pursuits during the course of AL. Considering they're travelling for a significant length of time, Luke isn't able to attend his violin lessons. Raymond eagerly takes up the role of violin teacher, being a talented fiddler himself. Des plays piano with him when the opportunity arises. Luke truly starts to see them both as family.
