Girl on Comics

With Emerald City Comic Con coming up we wanted to remind folks that this sign is a permanent fixture in our booth.

So I decided my new life goal is to become a magical girl viking

Because I love metal. I love metal so much. It’s the music that calms me down the most and I fucking love metal heads. Everything about it is great.

I just also wish I could be super fucking cute while also being a metal head. I mean I do it anyway but imagine if I could do it BETTER. LIKE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS! Be super brutal and badass but also super femme and adorable!!

I want to chug beer and smash it then explode into rainbow sparkles and bows and get a cute little outfit with a little skirt and a fur cloak and take my sparkly weapon and go cut off the head of a dragon and write it’s name on my face in it’s own blood and drink some more and giggle adorably and have a talking pet that instructs me and my comrades about our magical powers. That’s what I want out of my life.

When the store buys 33 long boxes of comics and you need to sort them and there is no order whatsoever in most of them

After hours of organizing, checking, and shuffling just 12 of those boxes

Customer likes the sound of everything I’ve recommended, spends over $100 on trades

SDCC Showcase: Tribute to Camilla d’Errico’s Helmet Girls

Here’s another roundup of photos from SDCC! I added a Camilla d’Errico Helmet Girls tribute to the lineup last minute, and was lucky enough to have Lisa Lou Who whip something up and join me. The costume took about a week from start to finish (you can see some WIP photos here), with the helmet mostly made of craft foam and Worbla.

I had a day or two to spare prior to the convention, and so a friend helped me wire the helmet with little motors. You can spy it in motion in the GIF above, and a longer clip of Lisa and I in this SDCC cosplay video! 

Lisa and I were able to meet and chat with Camilla, as well as her sister AdaPia, and were smitten to spend a bit of time with them. 

This was the first time I’ve done a costume inspired by traditional art rather than a game or comic character, but I was pleasantly surprised by how many people recognized Camilla’s signature style.

This week’s episode of CW’S Supernatural featured a Lying Cat T-Shirt worn by “Charlie,” played by Felicia Day, who calls SAGA the “best comic EVER?!”

The latest cover I did for Archie- Betty and Veronica as little mermaids! When they sent me the script for this issue, it was a bunch of rough layouts that the great Dan Parent must have sketched and scripted at the same time. Pretty interesting! I’ve heard a lot of writer/artists work that way.
