Jonathan Jackson was gunned down outside the Marin County courthouse on august 7, 1970 as he attempted to liberate 3 black liberation fighters also known as the Soledad Brothers. He was only 17. Black august is a time to honor our freedom loving ancestors, our righteous history of resistance, and Black liberation, which we are still fighting for in this white supremacist world, and which no presidential election will get us closer too. There are many significant historical events to study in August, but to name a few the first African slaves were brought to Jamestown in Aug 1619, the Haitian revolution began in aug 1791, Nat Turners slave rebellion began on aug 21 1831, Harriet Tubmans Underground Railroad began on Aug 2 1850, the Watts rebellion began on aug 11 1965, and on aug 8 1978 the Philadelphia pigs initiated a shootout against MOVE members.
