She stubs out the cigarette, cracks her knuckles, and begins to craft her masterpiece, a Jenga tower of tropes stacked perilously high. Readers will pay just to see whether she can keep this going. She will reap the wind.

depression isn't always sitting in the dark, depression isn't always sleeping constantly. depression isn't expression through self harm or addiction. i've come to see my depression in many different ways. going multiple days without a shower, knowing i need to shower but just not being about to convince myself it's worth the time and effort. ignoring these basic necessities to the point i have tennis ball or larger sized knots at the base of my skull. forgetting to eat, forgetting to drink. sleeping a lot or not enough, feeling exhausted just from the length of time i've been awake. depression can be the time i spend with my son falling to a pitifully unfun time for him because i just can't muster the energy he deserves to play. depression isn't always a constant state, depression can be like a cloudless sky and then a sudden downpour. depression can be a cloudy day, all day, with minimal breaks for sunshine. depression can feel like a weight so deep inside of me it's density forms a black hole that sucks me inside and all i can feel is something i can't call numbness but can't call pain and i can't call sorrow. i have no word for the beast i should call my depression. all i have is the void it leaves me in when it strikes me down again even while i fight it and i try so hard to fight it. i don't like my life. i don't like the person i am, how she looks or is or how she's failed, but i keep fighting for it. even when the fight feels, in itself, without base. depression is the monster in your closet, waiting for you to let it in so deep that it becomes a part of your bones. it is the water and the sand that erodes the stone that is your resolve. it is the little voice in the back of your head, silencing the great voice that you can be. i love all of you that reads this, i love you and i want you to keep fighting with me. please keep fighting because i know how hard it is to fight.
