To My Best Friend
Once upon a time I made a promise, one I intended to keep, to not write you a poem till I was sure itâd make you weep.
Of course, now we are leaving, packing up and moving on, taking with us only memories of the journey weâve been on.
And Iâm sitting here across from you in this coffee shop you found, and I canât picture how life will work when you wonât be around.
Because who could ever replace you, whose presence changed my life from a fragile girl to a fearsome fighter whose words cut like a knife.
You showed me laughter, and you taught me to fly, and you said if I want it, I just have to try.
Youâre more than my rock, youâre my best friend, and though we may part, I hope that wonât end.
432 miles may seem so far, but I swear to you, itâs not. Iâm right here if you get lonely. Iâm your escape should you feel caught.
For college is an adventure, a brand new page, a fresh start, but as we go, I ask one thing: Please keep me in your heart.
