Send ⣠to kiss my muse at midnight on New Years Eve
When theyâd run into one another at the Gotham New Yearâs party, this was not where sheâd expected her night to end up. True both of them had probably had far too much to drink to make coherent choices, but even as his pale hands slipped around either side of her face and his lips pressed to hers she couldnât help but think,
â⌠This is weird, right?⌠Iâm dreaming right? Are people looking at us? Am I going to end up on the news for being the woman kissing âthe Jokerâ in the middle of a crowded party on New Yearâs at midnight?â
In reality, no one was looking. No one even knew they were there. They were a faceless pair of people in a sea of thousands under a rain of confetti that was sure to get stuck in their hair for hours. Â Aliceâs hands gingerly grasped at his coat, standing close to him as she allowed it to go on for longer than she probably should have. Her boss would have her head if they knew what she was doing.
But whether it was the booze or something else, she didnât have it in her to care
Jack wasnât even sure what had prompted him to go come tonight. He usually avoided social situations and out of his nerves heâd already had far too much to drink. Still, Thanksgiving and Christmas had been too much for him and he was determined not to spend another holiday at home alone.
It had been sheer coincidence that heâd run into Alice but it was a happy coincidence. When sheâd made no attempts to shake him off, heâd happily been tagging along in her wake ever since.Â
Now here they were and Jack couldnât resist. Heâd wanted to kiss her for so long now, even if he hadnât been honest with himself about it. He knew he shouldnât, knew it complicated so many things, but for now he was too drunk to care. Sheâd been happy to see him and that was reason enough to take the chance.
No one seemed to notice as he pulled her close and pressed his lips to hers. To his great relief she didnât pull away. And so he kissed her and tried not to think about the consequences. Whatever happened next, this just felt right.
âHappy New Year,â he murmured as they broke apart. Confetti covered them both and he couldnât help but grin. âYou havenât hit me yet, so thatâs a pretty good start.â
