[ 2008 *, ] ... SLASHER.

it’s  funny,  how  they  nearly  refer  to  them  as  margot.    how  they’re  so  tempted  to  berate  them  for  wearing  the  mask,  stealing  their  kill,  nearly  jeopardizing  what  was  meant  to  be  collaborative  effort.    after  all,  who  else  could  it  be?    her  name  is  right  on  his  tongue  when  the  latter  finally  pipes  up,  voice  masked  behind  the  same  device  taped  inside  his  own  ‘guise,  but  unrecognizable  all  the  same.    &.  that’s  where  it  all  starts  to  click.    differences  in  stature  are  made  so  much  more  apparent,  the  slight  alterations  in  cloaks,  &.  at  finally  it  took  the  small  detail  of  which  hand  that  hunting  blade  was  held  in  to  indicate  what  they’d  suddenly  been  dreading.    limbs  are  froze,  their  advance  across  viscera - painted  floors  come  to  a  halt.    every  nerve  seizes.    that  is  not  margot.    

it  stays  like  that  for  a  while.    no  utterance,  no  movement.    god,  there  would  be  no  noise  were  it  not  for  the  static  hum  of  an  air  conditioner  &.  the  sound  of  lively  fatality.    they’re  the  first  one  to  break  out  of  the  shared  trance.    there’s  a  careful  step  to  the  side,  quiet,  so  quiet  in  fact  that  it  can  only  be  heard  as  silence.    concealed  eyes  crawl  down  to  the  man  on  the  floor,  writhing,  letterman  jacket  bathed  in  his  own  hemoglobin.    killer  notes  his  twitching  leg,  slashed  &.  useless,  &.  watches  as  his  hands  try  to  pull  himself  across  the  floor,  tries  to  put  some  distance  between  him  &.  his  unmaker.    there’s  a  strained  cry  when  his  fingernails  can’t  find  purchase  in  the  wood.    brutally  &.  morbidly  futile.    [    you  try  to  feel  pity  for  him,  but  compassion  fails  you.    death  will  embrace  him  in  due  time.    &.  he  deserves  it,  anyway.    ]    they  direct  their  vision  back  to  the  imposter   /   the  faker   /   the  stark  imitation  of  another  copycat  &.  tyler  almost  has  the  fucking  nerve  to  laugh  at  the  snide  remark.    eventually,  he  does:  an  ugly,  strained  giggle  that  barely  teeters  a  whisper.    it’s  nothing  out  of  humor.
