started working on some scenes for my abioye siblings origin story in my fantasy series ~ made a mood board & a playlist. (playlist https://tidal.com/playlist/434...)
ive noticed fairy stuff is super popular rn. normally this would not faze me... but now im kinda worried about what preconceived notions from these new romantasy series readers will be coming into my series with towards rian. bcoz i sure as shit dont have them while writing.
i am truly a slut for religious themes and iconography in stories. kain my beloved
my secret weapon is organizing my story blocks and beats in twine

i've been working on my own fantasy/sci-fi world, plotting out these stories, making playlists, directing highly rated films in the theatres of my mind, working on my characters for decades for my own personal enjoyment. in january 2024 that i decided to actually sit down and write books about them, but i felt like everything i had created was so personal. so i decided that i would create a version of my stories that i could turn into something i might share with people, and thus, i created new derivatives of my some of my characters.
for example, my character luna - my oldest character (2000) and the beginning of my designing these stories - i named her logan, gave her a new look, a... fairly new back story, and ultimately gave her a new trajectory that diverges from and mirrors what luna's was in the storylines i keep personally. it has been genuinely great to examine luna closer through the creation of logan, and that is the same for all the characters that got this treatment.
another character that i cloned was elijah. elijah is a rich boy born into a religious noble dragon family in a country that has made religious expression illegal. they live in the deep wilds of marasii (country) and elijah is raised with his younger brother, in tune with the nature and land that surrounds them. he has a loving and supportive family, who is murdered in a most cliche manner, and he goes on to an academy where he studies to become a guild master. he utilize his inheritance to kick start the guild and ends up becoming a hoarder of unique and skilled tradesmen, complete with its own militia and political sphere.
so, for his clone - ydris - i decided to turn a lot of the aspects of his upbringing that made elijah such a strong leader on their head. raised in a home where he is not wanted, disdained, only to escape and find refuge with isi. knowing that his family is happier without him, fine. at his core, this character is both a leader and a loner, so how fun would it be if his childhood was basically inverted?
anyway, that's how i ended up with the bumbling mess that is the half-halfing (quarterling) city boy ydris. and i think i really do love that the traits that are brought out so vibrantly in elijah, like his possessiveness, the judgemental nature, the pride - these things are all SEEMINGLY nonexistant in ydris. but they are there. trust me.
all this to say
i think it's soooo interesting that the thing that most attracts elijah to luna is the thing that most disturbs ydris about logan
