UConn’s Tia Chan has been named National Goalie of the Year by the Hockey Commissioners Association.

This season Chan led Hockey East in wins, GAA, SV%, minutes, and shutouts, and had a record-breaking 57-save double OT performance in the Hockey East Championship game. She backstopped @uconnwhoc to another conference title and their first NCAA tournament win in program history.

2025-26 Season Accolades: 2x Hockey East Player of the Week, 4xHockey East Goaltender of the Week, 2x Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, Hockey East Tournament MVP, First Team All-Hockey East, Hockey East All-Tournament Team, Hockey East Goaltender of the Year

Okay lots of thoughts on Laila’s teal talk, I’ll probs rewatch later and try to have more coherent thoughts, but sounds like the season starts in December (so far away 😭), she’s a pr agents dream, charismatic, well spoken, funny, I love all her interviews, her mentioning how the team having a logo and name will make it feel a lot more real is such a good point and I know the league is trying not to rush things but to some degree I think having something a team can form an identity around is so important and she said it so well

Anyways shout out to Brodie Brazil for asking actually interesting questions and not going on about the sharks/willmack for more than like two questions

Just my initial thoughts from the Laila Edwards Teal Talk:

Laila is super genuine and down to Earth. She’s generally very humble about her position and was unsure at first about her reception in San Jose. It seems to matter to her that San Jose is excited to have her which comes across super sweet.

She is super excited about San Jose and California as a place to live! I know that no player is going to go on an interview and say San Jose sucks, but the story about telling her brother that she could live in San Jose always gets me.

She’s also hilarious. Honestly great jokes bouncing off with Brodie. Most hockey player interviews are difficult watches for me, but she has a great personality and isn’t afraid to be sarcastic or throw in a joke.

She has a good perspective on the pwhl and hockey as a whole. She values hockey and sports in general, but also has an understanding of her place in growing the game/the league. It seems like she is super receptive to it and excited to be part of the generation that pushes women’s hockey forward.
