Artist life vid
The last half of some pages i did from couple weeks back at the 24-hour comic book challenge at Anyone Comics over by Brooklyn, NY. Things i focused on were my storytelling, pacing, atmosphere, and overall expressions. Since October I had been given such a moment around some of the best in the business that i walked away with a newfound drive and focus to keep doing better. I will always be a work-in-progress.

WIP for graphic novel
So much stuff on my mind can’t focus. So took a break and did a throwaway with this Unworthy Thor
This is how I approach action scenes for sequential storytelling. This is a process i personally use. For clarity i went and had an actual fight put together to better visualize ideas that run through my head. Mentally, i choreograph the sequence together. Write them down in short but clear details. I emphasize story. Why are they fighting? What is the conflict? This helps me find moments that are important. 1) start off with (figure A) coming at viewer with a kick. 2) (figure B) gets kicked flies back. 3) (figure B) lands in trash. 4) close-up on (figure B) face to show he’s rocked. 5) (figure A) is coming fast with front kick. 6) CU of (figure B) blocking kick 7) (figure B) getting caught with kick in head. 8) (figure B) goes head first into wall from head kick. All this has been mapped out mentally as i imagined it. Choreo, camera angles, composition, details, etc. once i make my thumbnails there are things that I alter or add if necessary for story purposes. All this before i start laying it all out for final stages on the comic paper. To note: personally, i have spent a lifetime doing martial arts as well as filmmaking professionally. So that has given me a whole tool set for my approach to drawing action sequentially. For those that do not have that experience, you can study and reference books on fighting or watch action scenes in movies. It is a good way to understand movement, camera angles, story telling, etc.
