A loosely pieced together timeline of Armitage Hux’s life based solely on canon information. I will try to update this as new information comes in play. Please let me know if I’ve missed anything. Last updated [1/6/20]
Birth ( 0 BBY/0 ABY): Born to a kitchen woman rather than his father’s wife, Maratelle Hux
Arkanis Academy (2 ABY - 5 ABY*): (1) He avoids his father whenever possible and has no friends of his own.
(2) At the end this time while receiving schooling from Arkanis Academy, Armitage experiences his first and only encounter with the Republic as they lay siege to the academy for a full six months.
Battle of Jakku (5 ABY): With the start of the Cold War, Armitage and his father start their journey to the Unknown Regions with Rae Sloane. At the beginning of the journey Gallius Rax gives Armitage a gift: his own personal army of child soldiers to mold as he sees fit. This is Armitage’s first taste of authority.
The trip takes months. Key moments from this trip includes: (1) Sloane making a deal with Armitage, ensuring Armitage’s safety from his father if she is kept safe from his child soldiers. (2) Brendol Hux teaching Armitage all he knows. (3) Armitage growing more vicious.
Meeting Phasma (18 ABY): Armitage is tasked with picking up his father after Brendol crashlands on Parnassos, Phasma’s home planet. Upon arrival Armitage is skeptical of Phasma. It is established that Armitage is good with children and Snoke has been in control of the First Order for some time now.
Ten year gap (18 ABY - 28 ABY**): (1) Armitage arranges the murder of his father with Phasma. After his father’s death, Armitage holds an assembly and delivers the news of his father’s passing, claiming the cause of death: unknown malady.
(2) Armitage becomes a First Order General.
(3) Kylo Ren becomes an influential member of the First Order’s power structure, working outside the official military command structure while still granted authority over military officers much to General Hux’s chagrin.
Cardinal finds out (28 ABY): Cardinal, Brendol Hux’s original bodyguard, finds out about Phasma murdering Brendol and reports his findings to Armitage who in returns admits that he conspired to kill his father.
TFA / TLJ (34 ABY): (1) The era of the New Republic comes to an end along with the Cold War when Starkiller Base, a technological terror of Armitage’s own making, becomes operational and obliterates the Hosnian system
(2) Ren takes on the role as Supreme Ruler after murdering Snoke and Armitage begrudgingly swears his loyalty to him.
TRoS (35 ABY): (1) Still third in command, taking orders from both Kylo Ren & Allegiant General Pryde, Armitage becomes a mole in the First Order, giving information to the Resistance. He aids in the escape of Poe, Finn, and Chewie, costing him his life at the hands of Allegiant General Pryde who shots him in the chest for treason.
*Assuming Arkanis Academy functions with the same standards as some schools and will accept children at the age of 2
**The exact year all these events take place are never stated but Star Wars: Phasma alludes towards the death of Brendol happening before Armitage becomes General and somewhere in between all that Ren has joined the First Order. Click here for more speculation on exactly when Armitage had his father assassinated.
