“…Quit,” he breathed out after a moment, flinching as if the word itself was painful to utter even though he had no problems with it in the past. “You wish to quit.”

How ironic it was that the abnormality who usually left you puzzled with his words seemed to be struggling to understand what you were telling him. Seriously, what part of what you said to him was difficult to understand?

“Is there something wrong with it?”

“Yes— No! I…”

How ironic it was that for once, he seemed at a loss of words as well.

“You are cognisant of what it means to ‘quit’ in this place, are you not?” he asked, his voice almost trembling.

“I am aware of it but what other choice do I have?”

He didn’t answer beyond looking away from you. That’s what you thought.

“I’m tired of losing friends every day, tired of working with their killers,” you continued. “If there was a way to quit and live a normal life, I would’ve done that already but I can’t even have that here. None of us can! You’re the best choice I have. The higher ups might not let me quit, or they might throw me at an abnormality as a sacrifice after telling me they’ll let me go. I could go to another abnormality for this, but frankly I don’t want to give them the satisfaction of killing yet another abnormality. But, you…”

You didn’t finish. Didn’t feel the need to. Yi Sang seemed to understand where you were going with this all the same.

“You… really wish to…” He let out a shaky breath. “Is that what you truly desire?”

You nodded.

“…Very well.”

If you didn’t know any better, you’d think he hesitated to extent his hand to you then. He wouldn’t, of course. Hesitating meant that he was questioning his role, and given his existence as an abnormality thus a being incapable of changing, that wasn’t possible.

“Thank you,” you smiled as you took his hand. “I was a bit worried that you might refuse, to be honest.”

Then again, Yi Sang had never really been like the other abnormalities, had he?

He didn’t reply, instead pulling you close to him; close enough that he could wrap his arms around your waist. He was so cold.

“I’ll make this quick, dearest.”

…Dearest, huh. That was a new one.

Not that whatever he called you mattered now.

🫧you likely aren't even aware of his feelings for you until he lays them out very plainly. there were, most likely, clues. the slightest of indicators that he was interested. choosing to hang around you even when he didn't have to, looking out for you during missions even when you didn't notice. letting you insert yourself into his daily life, likely giving off the impression that he didn't care about your presence one way or the other when he actually greatly enjoyed you being there

🫧he'd likely only go through with a confession for clarity's sake, as he would prefer to know where the two of you stand and your own feelings on the matter even if he can somewhat infer what they are. it sounds more like a business proposal than an impassioned declaration of his feelings, but that doesn't mean they're not there. he just has a very... subdued manner of expressing himself in that way.

🫧a lot of being with meursault is just picking up on the smallest of his quirks. he isn't the most expressive to OTHERS. you, however, can gain the ability to read him very well once you figure him out. he seeks you out often, watches you closely. you can make out the slightest twitch at the corners of his mouth when you smile at him at the end of a long fight, or the way he leans just a bit closer when he's anticipating a kiss at a time you'd usually give him one.

🫧acts of service type of guy. he shows his love by trying to make your life easier, trying to be of use. he enjoys helping you out wherever he can, be it with chores or during the workday. he'll make your favorite meals or any foods that you just really want to try. and... he's surprisingly fond of gift giving? if you mention wanting something offhandedly, he'll get it for you if it's within the budget. he isn't going to figure it out on his own; you're going to need to tell him that just because you talked about it doesn't mean you actually need it

🫧cuddly. very much so. this man is like a space heater too. he doesn't typically initiate physical affection, but he never seems to have any issue with it when you do. for a while you might think that he's impartial. after all, he seems to just let you do whatever you please. until you notice that he just keeps inching closer to you. and staring. and waiting. and- oh. you forgot to kiss him on the cheek this morning! eventually he'll get comfortable enough to show affection in private, coming up and resting his chin on your shoulder to see what you're up to, or placing a hand on your back or waist

🫧he may not always have the advice you're seeking, but he is a pretty good listener, and you know he'll take whatever you say to heart. he'll usually try to suggest more pragmatic solutions if you ask, rather than anything more geared towards the emotional side, but it shows you that he's taking it seriously even if he's sitting there otherwise silent

meursault is a creature of habit, and you've become a part of his routine. you're, for lack of a better term, his person. where you may find safety and sturdiness in him, he finds reliability and a space to let his guard down within you.

“Darling, move away for a second.”

Seeing you listen and pull away from his arm so obediently would’ve had him gushing over how cute you were if not for the blade coming right for his throat a second time. Blocking it was easier the second time around, and without having a certain someone clinging to him and having him hold back, Hong Lu overpowered his opponent enough to stagger them before following up it up with a stab.

Nice and easy, it’d give him enough time to deal with you.

“Come here, dearest~” Hong Lu opened his arms, offering a hug and you took the bait without any hesitation. He took the opportunity to tie you up nice and tight, making sure you wouldn’t be able to get away. The way you squirmed and protested when you realized what he was doing delighted him so, a shame that the two of you were out in the battlefield and he couldn’t do much about it for now.

“Stay like that, okay~?” he crooned, caressing your cheek for a moment before turning his attention back to the fight.

He couldn’t wait to get this battle done with already so he could get back to you.
