Questions of a Gender-Neutral

Thank you so much! It sounds like it to me; genderfluid is the fluctuation between more than one gender. As far as I know, there are no rules about which genders you’re “allowed” to flow between, so I’d certainly say it qualifies.

Most folks consider gender neutral and agender to be synonymous. So you might find more information if you keep that in mind.

Unfortunately, not a whole lot exists on the experience of being gender neutral. My best advice would be to track the “agender” and “gender neutral” tags. You won’t find as much there, but it’s a start.

Personally, being gender neutral is....confusing. I’m not at all male, nor am I at all female, but sometimes I feel more masculine or more feminine. I like to present in a more feminine fashion and feel pretty, but I also like to dress in a more masculine fashion sometimes. Ultimately, I’d like to dress in a way that is indeterminable as either masculine or feminine but I’m hot so who cares.

I don’t really like she/her pronouns, but I put up with them because I’m not out to most people yet. I also don’t like he/him pronouns. I most like they/them for common use, but I get. so. much. backtalk from people about it. Everyone and their mother (I wish I was kidding) likes to tell me that “they/them refers to multiple subjects, you can’t use it for a single person”. Even though the MLA changed their rules regarding the singularity/plurality of they/them.

If it's medical, go with your sex. If it's medical, always go with your sex. It can really suck, confidence and dysphoria-wise, but it is very important. When medical offices or services ask for your sex, it is because there are frequently differences, based on hormones and body chemistry, in medical treatments depending on whether the patient is medically male or female.

First of all, good job on coming out to your parents! That takes a lot of courage, and it takes as much (if not more) to come out again and say things have changed. Whether or not you tell them isn't a decision I can make for you. It's entirely your own choice and your own comfort and your own safety. You have to take those into consideration when making that decision, but whatever you decide is 100% okay. Your choice is your choice and is perfectly okay and valid, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

I understand feeling invalid, too. I'm not so great with the words in this area of things, so the best I can really say is: you're not invalid. You are very valid. If anyone tells you that you're invalid, just pie them in the face and tell them they're invalid (only half joking there).

And I certainly hope being non-binary is an actual thing!! I hope it's not "a silly kid thing"! I mean, I'm nonbinary, and I figured it out when I was 20, sooo I think I was a little bit out of the kid range when I started figuring it out (my mom would say otherwise, though. After all, that year around my birthday she kept saying that I was "20 going on 5"

That’s actually more complicated of an answer than I originally anticipated.

"Gay" is a term primarily used to describe men. However, I’ve also known lesbians who call themselves gay (and thereby equating it with the word homosexual). 

So, I will cautiously recommend this:

If you at any point/in any way identify as male, and are attracted to men, go for it (particularly when you’re feeling masculine).

If you are attracted to other genderqueer folk, I (personally) don’t see a problem with it.
