(i think) the song’s original meaning explores addiction and dependency from the drug’s perspective — but lots of the lyrics reminded me of Smurf’s manipulation and coddling of Pope

Reminded me of when Smurf would get Pope out of the situations he’d get himself in as a teen or letting him get away with careless and violent behavior when he was much younger, knowing she will protect him.

I immediately thought about how Smurf manipulated Pope into depending only on her (whether she did it out of fear of losing her greatest “asset” or because she thrived on the attention and the feeling of being needed) and how she made Pope choose between her or Julia.

See they don't give a fuck about you]

Again getting major vibes or Smurf separating and dividing her twins, Julia is the other poison, the one trying to turn Pope’s loyalty rotten. And this part also heavily reminded me of when Pope was trying to turn to religion for a sense of belonging and support, but Smurf immediately goes to spoil it by saying they wouldn’t care for him like she does, and that they’ll ruin him.

I mean come on, easily Smurf endorsing, influencing, and promoting Pope’s violent behavior. Her little attack dog, kept well sheltered until she needs him to bite.

Kinda alludes to her emotional (and borderline incestuous) manipulation of Pope since he was a child. Always keeping him wrapped around her finger. On a tight leash. Only and always hers.

That’s pretty much all that I could easily explain but there’s just so many songs and their lyrics that painfully remind me of Pope.
