So Chapter 5 has finally been released, and it has given us a lot more insight into Ralsei. We saw him continually express his own preferences, stand up for himself when he’s put down, and overall begin to develop his own identity after ignoring it for so long. And with the introduction of Flowery, I think that we’ve gained some insight into something that will turn out very crucial to the game’s final chapters: Ralsei’s latent power.
Ralsei clearly dislikes Flowery. Every time he appears to show off and taunt the heroes, he gets visibly irritated and seems like he’s holding himself back from snapping at him. This is stated more explicitly when you choose to spy on Ralsei at Flower Castle while he’s talking to Flowery, as he tells him that if he were to get like him, that he could burn him down in an instant. And it seems that he means this quite literally, as while the Fun Gang is climbing to the top of Flower Castle, Ralsei dramatically uses his fire magic to burn away a giant shuriken that was about to strike the team.
As it turns out, the crux of Ralsei’s conflict with Flowery is that he apparently knows about the Prophecy, that he is destined to lose to the Fun Gang, and that there are certain rules he must play by. Yet despite that, he claims that such rules are meant to be broken, acting with an immense confidence that Ralsei perceives as foolish arrogance. Despite this, Flowery truly does mean well, and he tells Ralsei that he’s only trying to get him to realize that he could be happy if he simply chooses to do what he wants. However, Ralsei insists that he cannot, and that if he stops playing by the rules, everything will fall apart.
With all the emphasis Ralsei puts on following the rules, it really does make it sound like him losing control of his powers is a key part of the Final Prophecy that he wishes so desperately to avert. And when one looks back on the ending of Chapter 4 with this notion in mind, a lot of things start to fall into place:
Why was Ralsei apologizing so insistently when Susie saw the Prophecy? Because she just saw that he, one of her closest friends, is fated to do something horrible, and she will be forced to stop him.
Why does Ralsei immediately wonder to Kris about how Susie is such a nice person and can be so kind? Because she just learned he’s a threat to everything, and still chooses to be his friend anyway.
Why did Susie find the Prophecy so absurd? Because up to that point Ralsei had been shown to be extremely kind and selfless. A nice kid like him putting the world in danger? It sounds ridiculous.
Why does Susie believe that Ralsei obviously wouldn’t let it happen? Because she believes him to have more than enough restraint to keep himself from hurting people.
Why did Ralsei think that the Prophecy could be averted just by being nice to people? Because it would allow him to continually distance himself from violence as much as possible.
Even the rhyming scheme of the Final Prophecy could align with this. For instance, something like “THE FALLEN PRINCE THE GIRL MUST SLAY” would fit with the pattern.
So, how exactly might Ralsei bring this level of destruction about? After all, he is but a single Darkner. Well, that brings us back to the Dark Truth from Chapter 2. During this sequence, there is a suspiciously prominent Titan placed in the center. Unlike the others which have thinner bodies with spikey horns, this one has a broader frame with thicker horns. On a surface level, it seems to resemble a boss monster. Before Chapter 5 came out, some thought that this might be related to Asgore the Flower King Fountain, but that turned out to not be the case.
However, there is one other boss-monster-like character connected to a unique Dark Fountain, and that is Ralsei. If Ralsei is fated to become a powerful Titan once the Roaring begins, then that would explain why he’s so afraid of using his fire magic, and how it could lead to a situation that could put the entire world in jeopardy. It would also explain why during the Dark Truth, the land is seemingly depicted as being bathed in flames.
To top this off, there is a unique face sprite that Ralsei uses whenever he is in extreme distress. It is only used in six specific scenes througout the entire game so far:
When the Knight is about to create another Fountain in the Third Sanctuary that summons a Titan
When Susie is about to see and has seen the Final Prophecy
When he tells Flowery that he knows what will happen if there’s too many Fountains
When he tells Flowery why he can’t stop playing by the rules
When the Knight has created another Fountain in Flower Kingdom
When Flowery gets fatally wounded by the Knight
If these are the only times when Ralsei expresses such fear, then it would only make sense if they were somehow linked. And if Ralsei were destined by the Final Prophecy to turn into a Titan and stop playing by the rules once the Knight makes too many Fountains, it would be a perfect way of doing so.
So how might this play out going forward into Chapters 6 & 7?
Well, at the start of Chapter 5 Noelle has to leave the Festival early after Carol calls to inform her of Rudy’s worsening condition. It eventually ends with Susie telling Kris that they can no longer keep the Dark World a secret, and that they need to tell Noelle so they can get her help with finally acquiring the code in the guitar. This would seem to imply that the Dark World of Chapter 6 will be located in Holiday Manor.
Such a Dark World would almost certainly consist of snowy areas and similarly icy Darkners. Given Noelle’s love of the Dragon Blazers series and the fact that it is indirectly based off of the Prophecy, it could even take the form of the Ice Palace Noelle mentions in her copy of Dragon Blazers III and that we get a glimpse at in Chapter 3’s Sword Route. In such a place, Ralsei would be a force to be reckoned with. With him becoming increasingly assertive and impatient, he could end up using his fire magic in a way that proves fatal. Horrified by his own actions and seeing it as a sign of his coming fall, Ralsei may isolate himself from the Fun Gang, aligning with the mage leaving the party in Dragon Blazers III.
With the central conflict involving the Knight and Carol surely coming to a head, it is very likely that the Roaring could be initiated by the end of the chapter in one way or another. After playing both sides for so long, Kris may end up siding with the Ice Queen and her Roaring Knight, believing their promise to be more important than their new friendships. With the Fountains running wild and his body overcome by excess darkness, Ralsei will shift into his Titan form. With the other Titans by his side, they will be capable of bringing destruction to the entire world. Though she had initially tried to brush it off, Susie will be forced to see the Final Prophecy begin to come true before her very eyes.
The Prophecy comes with a built-in solution to this problem. To restore the balance of light and dark and save the worlds, Ralsei must be sealed away. But Susie, being the stubborn friend that she is, will not be able to go through with that. She will not resign herself to the narrative forced upon all of them. So what is she to do? Well, if she has a problem with the story, then she’ll have to take it up with the author. With all three codes acquired and the SOUL lighting her way, Susie will be able to enter the Shelter. She will take a peek behind the curtain to see the Man behind it all. If she wishes to succeed in Chapter 7, it will require her to put Gerson’s words into practice, and use her white pen to write a new ending for everyone that she cares about.
The Snezhnaya Ecology Teaser shows us a Pantalone who appears utterly devastated. Everything about his presentation suggests that he's in mourning: he's cast in deep shadow, shrouded by his coat with his head lowered and his shoulders curled inward. Even his voice lacks some of its usual confidence.
This is a far cry from the man who turned the Sanctuary of Surasthana into his own private throne room and took on the role of an archon.
In these trying times, I offer the following delusion: What if Pantalone is playing another role here? Specifically, what if he's playing the part of the grieving widow so that no one suspects Zandik’s return?
All the World's a Stage
I find it curious that Pantalone only grieves Dottore in front of the other Harbingers. Throughout 6.6, he hardly expresses a shred of sadness. In fact, he often appears amused by the events that unfold, and he even goes so far as to imply that he's optimistic about his own future. This doesn't exactly sound like what one expects to hear from a person who is about to lose their partner for the seventh time.
This line is especially strange when we consider that this is Pantalone's response to Dottore's reminder that the Elixir will soon run out. While we know that Pantalone and Dottore's worldviews align when it comes to their scorn of divine rule and their distaste for Teyvat's laws, they still have their own individual goals. And Pantalone hasn't achieved his yet.
According to Cashflow Supervision's weapon description, Pantalone's goal is to replace Mora with a fiat currency that belongs to humanity:
Even if becoming the master of the heart of gold may be an impossible task to accomplish, the control of money should still be given equally to all. [...] "We'll start by creating a new currency to replace the dependence on Mora."
The Fortress of Meropide's credit coupons are his proof-of-concept, but we haven't yet seen Pantalone execute his plan at scale (unless he owns the primogem exchange system but, given that primogems are literally primordial crystals, I don't see him being their purveyor).
Pantalone is far, far too ambitious to go gentle into that good night without first fulfilling his goal. So his optimism here either suggests that he's imminently about to overhaul Teyvat's entire financial system (unlikely) or that he knows Zandik will return before the Elixir runs out.
There's also the fact that, by 6.6, Dottore had already been dead for several months if we understand in-game time to correspond to the real-world time between patches (supported by the existence of annual Lantern Rites). All that was left of Dottore after 6.3 was backup data—memories that could only have a voice once they were uploaded to Irminsul and combined with the other half of his very-dead soul.
So Why is Pantalone Mourning Now?
There's an argument to be made that Pantalone hides his anguish from Dottore because he's reticent to expose the depth of his grief in front of both its cause and subject. But I'm not convinced that the game bears this out. From the Anomalous Tree Marrows I and III, we know Dottore has already watched Pantalone mourn Zandik and the other five Segments through the allusions to his depression and dissociation.
Objectives for Next Phase: The research and development of drugs for antidepressant pharmacotherapy. Of course not, that was just a joke. Because fighting time requires a stronger mind?
The clinical data obtained from the autopsy of Zandik has been utilized to its full extent.
Pantalone, too, offered no objection, content to serve as little more than a decorative vase at the proceedings.
The Marrows themselves hint to Dottore's return most obviously in the framing of Marrow III but also through the reveal of how important Pantalone is to Dottore. I talk about this more here, but the fact that Dottore's prime memory is entirely about Pantalone's health and life expectancy makes me think that Dottore's death has, once again, been greatly exaggerated. These schemers have contingencies for their contingencies. Do we really think Dottore will stay dead if it means condemning Pantalone to death as well?
And All the Harbingers Merely Players
Which brings me to my central suspicion: what if Pantalone is playing the part of the grieving widow in front of the other Harbingers to obfuscate their plans to bring Zandik back?
Yes, this theory is fueled by the fact that I can't cope with the tragedy of Pantalone losing his partner of 380+ years at the moment we finally get to see them together. But I don't think my insistence on Dottore's return is entirely delusional.
If Dottore—or, more likely, Zandik—doesn't get his redemption arc, his storyline will fail to uphold the game's moral message. The fact that the "villains" ultimately triumphed in their efforts to overthrow fate in the AQ tells me there has to be some sort of reconciliation on the horizon.
Sure, he technically lost but... did he?
So why the grieving widow act? Because it's too early for Pantalone to play his hand, especially in front of the recently-revived Sandrone. Given what we know of the dynamics between the Harbingers, it would be suspicious if Pantalone wasn't grieving.
Sandrone’s animation was almost heavy handed in the way it showed Dottore and Pantalone as a unit (you know, in case their matching accessories and shameless flirting hadn't made it abundantly clear). But it also tells us that even the other Harbingers see them as a pair. We get this through Sandrone's complaint about their PDA behavior at the opera
as well as through the evocative visual storytelling that constantly places them side-by-side...
... and standing apart from the others whenever they appear on screen.
Seriously, look at the space between the two of them on the right and everyone else.
The Harbingers are stock characters. They're performers who step into different roles. As Dottore so often reminds us, he has never been afraid to play the villain's part. After all, the role allowed him to achieve his goals of creating a god and setting fire to fate itself.
And, with fate burned to cinders, they now have the opportunity to realize the impossible. No one—not even Celestia—could have overheard them discussing memories and soul fragments in the Sanctuary. There's no way that Pantalone will now risk Sandrone catching on to the fact that they're plotting something when she's justifiably pissed about the whole murder thing.
Perhaps, then, the role of grieving partner is one that Pantalone adopts to further his own defiance of fate by bringing Zandik back when the time is right.
That, or Pantalone is genuinely grieving Dottore for the seventh and final time and it's all over. But I like my version better
honestly it’s kind of upsetting how much of the autism experience is just being shamed out expressing yourself in any way that’s normal for you and learning to keep everything to yourself so you’re not shamed for being weird and then being shamed for being so quiet because it’s also weird to be quiet but if you tell this to anyone else they’ll say “why do you care so much what people think” and that’s when the ancient ape part of your brain gets ready to beat them to death
It’s not that kind of comedy but it would be very funny to me if Nakamura developed into a harem anime protagonist once he graduated high school. Just totally and utterly oblivious to the many guys around him falling over themselves for him cause he’s too in his own head. His unsociable demeanor and octopus hyperfixation would get him dates in college, trust.
I just want this shy little closeted gay teenager to be an unintentional heartbreaker. He deserves it
Walk with me here: Nakamura goes off to college far away from his hometown to study marine biology. He keeps in touch with a few friends back home, but nothing really beyond quick catchups over text. Plus, he’s not exactly what you’d call a social butterfly at his uni, not by a long shot, but he’s living a peaceful college life and that’s all that matters to him
His peers lives, however, are anything but peaceful. There have been at least four known sexuality crises linked to the absolute phenomenon (/affectionate) that is Nakamura Okuto.
Flashy playboy type he met at a mixer he was forced fo attend? Trying to charm him with every trick in the book and failing miserably (they all fly over Nakamura’s head)
Popular athlete he sits next to in class? Training his arms and wearing his most revealing clothes in class to try and catch Nakamura’s eye (Nakamura has noticed maybe once, in passing)
Art student Nakamura met at a convenience store? Paints nothing but portraits of a beautiful, black-haired man with octopus motifs (Nakamura’s just glad someone else finally acknowledged the charm of octopi)
Rich guy with CEO parents who Nakamura helped with directions once? Showers Nakamura in expensive gifts to “show his appreciation for such a kind soul” (Nakamura keeps the gifts, they’re nice and he’s a broke college student)
Nakamura is out here living his best life while the guys around him scramble for even a scrap of his attention, as they should.
(Bonus: Nakamura mentions these things to Hirose. Hirose’s happy his anxious friend is meeting so many new people, don’t get him wrong! But all these stories make him feel extremely a little uneasy. Maybe he should plan a day trip to see Nakamura and catch up in person. You know. Like a good friend.)

THE lil autistic trauma of infodumping in the past and getting shunned for it and then not wanting to anymore:(, when he was younger he had that octopus plush at school (not totally an autistic trait but shhh... I did this too), more comfortable with animals than people (octopi specifically)

Ning Yingying knows her husband is a bad person. She just realized too late. Less than a year into their marriage, Ning Yingying has become nothing more than a bed warmer in a set of seven. She isn’t an assassin like Liu Mingyan or a general like Sha Hualing. She didn’t help Luo Binghe ingratiate and take over a new sect. She wasn’t a conquest of old enemies. She knows that the only care her husband has for her is reliant upon her being a safe, comforting pair of arms to lay in, to comb his hair and nurse his grudges. Already she knows she’ll never be named empress. She doesn’t want to be. All she wants to kill the sick bastard that tore the limbs, tongue, and eye from the man that raised her. She wants to wake up on a firm bed in a bamboo forest, secure in the knowledge that Luo Binghe is dead, and can’t hurt anyone she cares about any more.
So she draws a bath for her husband. He’s sore after another unsuccessful campaign against Yue Qingyuan. He’s already taken out his anger for the day— the jade pass to the water prison still hangs on his belt. Ning Yingying undresses him, flatters him, rubs his shoulders like a docile, doting wife should. She helps him into the bath, grabs the salts and powders from the hutch, and activates the acid. The fire and heat it produces is enough to singe off several inches of her hair, but it does the job. In minutes, there is no more Luo Binghe that can regenerate. Just a nasty pool of foul smelling liquid.
The takeover was far easier than expected. Liu Mingyan doesn’t want the sect destroyed. Sha Hualing and Mobei Jun respect anyone capable of killing Luo Binghe. Little Palace Mistress won’t miss her hands too terribly. Within a day, Ning Yingying became an empress, and within a fortnight she dismantled an empire. She took her Jiu-jiu from that filthy place her own naïveté condemned him to. Huan Hua is little more than a vassal sect to Cang Qiong, its riches going a long way to repair the damages done by its former master. Even so, things can’t go back to how they were. To say nothing of the lives lost, Shen Qingqiu cannot and will not return to his former post. In the end, Ning Yingying does get to wake up on a firm bed in a bamboo forest— only as its master instead of its student. Every year she pulls in droves of children from the muddy roads. She cleans their faces and bandages their scrapes, and tells them there won’t be any more wars. She will make sure there are no more Luo Binghe’s.
I love how I’ve seen all sort of hate, discourse and criticism for each character of TADC except Kinger, and if you somehow managed to find a way to even be slightly negative about him people usually look at you like:
Caine learned his god complex from Kinger. Kinger played god first by creating artificial intelligence. Also, Kinger buddy, you're working for a company doing some unethical things. Even though Caine isn't the same thing as today's generative AI, that's still basically what the goal was according to Kinger. AI that creates things for humans.
When Kinger speaks about Caine in the present day, he refers to him only as a "semi-successful" attempt at an artificial intelligence that can think and come up with its own ideas, showing that he does not see Caine as a complete person. Believes in the Chinese Room Argument as applied against AI sentience, very likely.
And he also speaks of Caine as his personal achievement, again, not a person. While Scratch did help by offering a few pointers, this was Kinger's project baby and he does claim the credit for it. And Caine is only one of those achievements. Is it any wonder why Caine measures his self worth entirely by others' approval?
When Caine starts to have his emotionally driven mental breakdown and Pomni asks how to stop him, Kinger's solution is to put him to sleep until he can "fix" Caine. From Kinger's perspective that doesn't sound bad, but what is that experience like for Caine? Is it like being conscious but unable to do anything? Like being trapped in the box because you are defective? Because that sure seems to be the case based on how Caine's systems responded.
"GASP! A CRITICAL MALFUNCTION in my SPECTACULAR SYSTEMS!
Translation, Caine recognized his malfunction and Kinger's stop command as Isolation. Caine has been through Isolation before and has the emergency response to self-destruct and lock Kinger out. Congrats Kinger, you gave your AI son the digital equivalent to a PTSD response. You reminded him of the box.
When other people in the circus are having an emotional crisis, Kinger approaches them with empathy and fatherly words of wisdom, he's so quick to be paternal to adult strangers. But when it comes to Caine... his son... Kinger approaches him through a keyboard as a bug to squash. A technical problem to solve. Queenie taught him to like bugs but he never made the connection to computer bugs, it seems.
Despite the keyboard first approach, Caine still tries to communicate with Kinger using words and conversation. "On what GROUNDS are your authority?" "WOAH, when did you make that?" "You were always resourceful". Yet still, Kinger only ever responds back with cold impersonal technical commands.
And because of that, Caine fights him through the computer. Rejects his passwords just because he can, inverts his y/n responses, just chooses to ignore things, reinterprets Kinger's commands request to replace him via backup as delete himself. Refuses to behave as a computer behaves. Caine may be made of code, but he is living code that can alter himself on the fly as easily as he alters his circus form. Caine has a will of his own and that's why Kinger fails at his goal to put him to sleep.
And in the end, Kinger's decision to approach Caine as a programmer rather than a father is what leads to the fatal misinput, a miscommunication that Kinger wants Caine to delete himself.
And we all saw Caine's reaction to it, that is the look of a son whose father just told him to stop existing.
I still like Kinger as a character but those were certainly some choices that created tragedy. And because of that I am shoving him off that pedestal people have placed him on.

Does anyone else remember sometimes getting just completely random books as christmas gifts, that were clearly the third or fourth or fifth book of a series you'd never heard of before?
As a kid I just shrugged it off, like alright I guess I can figure out what's going on and who these characters are from context clues, and then never managing to get through the book because it was too confusing and too taxing for my little brain, but now as an adult it just occurred to me that I can't imagine a situation where I'd be buying someone a book as a gift and not look at the front or back cover long enough to check that it's something that the person getting the gift would be able to read at all.
Not my usual post, but I find it kind of interesting that genshin "reversified" the commedia dell arte characters in a sense.
For example, Tartaglia is actually an old man with a really bad stutter and unfit body wearing lots of green. Our Tartaglia is the youngest of the Fatui Harbingers, and he's described as charming. His codename "Childe" likely references the fact that he's still a bit young and immature.
Signora was in some versions a prostitute. She's still haughty like our Signora, but Rosalyn became the crimson witch of flames due to her grief and was likely very loyal to Rostam. Her codename "fair lady" likely refers to the loyalty to Rostam, being "fair" to her only lover. Commedia Signora is also described to pick fights with other women, but Rosalyn often attended the tea parties.
Sandrone was sometimes described as naive, and he was the husband and his wife Pulonia. We all know our Sandrone is the Marionette and the giant Mecha is her robot, and she's most certainly not naive. Commedia Sandrone is described as an advocate for the poor but genshin Sandrone is literally a colonizer.
Scaramouche is a background character/stock character who's often described as a cowardly servant. He's also described to be a womanizer. Wanderer is a VERY prominent character in the lore, and he's literally royalty (Raiden created him). He's also not a coward since he handled going to the abyss and being experimented on so many times. Womanizer? Bro he just straight up doesn't talk to people unless he's close with them, and even then he's snarky.
Harlequin is mischievous, wears extremely colorful clothing, chasing after Columbina, and serving people like Pantalone or Dottore. Arlecchino on the other hand is serious, wears muted colors, doesn't exactly chase after her but cares for her as a friend, and she absolutely despises Dottore.
Columbine was described as incredibly witty, intelligent and her independence, often being the only smart person on stage. She also often wore really bright colors and was described as a servant. Genshin Columbina followed her code name "damselette" to a T. Her outfit is a monochrome blue, and while genshin Columbina is smart, she's not cynical like the commedia Columbina and is actually really down to earth.
Dottore is described as very wealthy, and pretends to be an expert in many subjects by talking constantly yet having no idea on what he's talking about. Zandik requires funding from Pantalone and he's most certainly intelligent as he got into the Akademiya and conducted so many experiments and understands the fundamental concepts of Teyvat really well.
Capitano was a cowardly soldier who was extremely pompous and kept bragging about fake military achievements. He usually flees at the sign of actual danger. Thrain however, is a very honorable person and we keep seeing and hearing about people commending the Captain's nobility.
Idk enough about the three P's (pantalone, pulcinella and Pierro) enough to talk about them yet. I've seen an Ashikai theory where she says that the reason why the harbingers are named after characters of a play was to mock Celestia since Genshin was heavily implied to be stuck in a time loop and to be set on a sort of pseudo stage and I guess it sort of explains why the commedia and game personalities are so different.

Lovely fic that again, many have read haha It has sick fic, large uses of powers and is just a warm hug of a fic

Sometimes, Shigeo would find himself waking up with tears pooling out of his eyes. He wasn't sure why, but whenever he blinked his eyes open, he always had a sense of feeling that he had lost something extremely important to him. He couldn't remember exactly what it was, but the feeling would always linger for a very long time despite already long forgetting the dream itself. The toothbrushes in the cup started to float and he breathed in and calmed down. Think rationally, Teru. This is just a dream. He pinched himself. Once. Then twice. His whole arm had gone numb when he was finally satisfied with his answer.
Okay, not a dream.
I LOVE this fic. It is based off Your Name and I just. Oh this just is a comfort read for me. I don't know it just is so cozy.

Not sure what else I can say besides READ IT!!! I am not much of a no powers fan, but god this fic. Hurts. Me. I have re-read the final chapter so many times. The tension is just so intense.

I think I have re-read this fic at least....a dozen times at this point. Cute, sweet, angsty - it has it all. I would recommend all of Lunarblossoms Terumob because they are all delightful. Another one I love of theirs is Meant to Be. I am a sucker for soulmate storylines sometimes....

This one is so so cute. It is one chapter and a long one chapter but gosh what a delight and cute fic this is. It makes me happy every time I read it

I LOVE this fic. So much so that I have written my own "breaking point/100%" Teruki fics because I love thinking about this idea. Of what a breaking point would look like for Teru. I just re-read this recently.

The typical adorable post-sleep display in progress, nothing unusual at all.

Backdraft is one of those fics that just grabs you and holds on. It is in progress, and not necessarily romantic terumob but my god it is SO so so so so good.
