Single Father (2010) - Episode 4
2026-07-29
Hiii, I've asked a few places now about what to call/ describe my cat's markings as and all I've gotten back is "without a pedigree, I can't tell you" and comments on her weight... I wasn't asking about weight (which my vet says is perfectly safe and okay) or her breed, just color and markings lol, so I'm hoping you can help!
She has some silver and some brown in her coat with blue-green eyes, eyebrows, a striped tail if you squint, a tiny splotch of white on her chest and tummy just on the tips of her fur, and a dark stripe down her back. I'm not quite sure of what it's all officially called, but I'd love to know. She's also double-coated and each strand of fur has multiple colors on it, and I'd love to know what that's called too!
Bonus: my new tuxedo boy with 99.99% pink toe beans and one singular black bean, who I'm hoping will get along with her eventually! Then they can be silly chaos gremlins together! Also, what color do you think his eyes are? My mom thinks they're amber and I think they're green and orange depending on lighting 😅
She’s a beautiful Domestic Shorthair, although I’m not sure why pedigree would prevent color identification?
She’s blue (“gray”) and the brown hue is likely rusting - does she spend a lot of time in the sun? The tail pattern is ghost striping, this is a common place for a residual pattern to be visible in solid cats even if they otherwise lack ‘ghost tabby’ markings.
The white is small enough that it’s not likely due to one of the white spotting genes, it’s moreso… incidental, for lack of a better word?
Your tuxie is also adorable, I love that he only has one black bean - it’s lucky! I’ve got to agree with you on the green eyes.
Hi! I am wondering if you can tell what kind of coat pattern my perfect idiot son, light of my life, has? I got randomly curious and did some reading and am fairly sure I correctly have him pegged as an Orange (duh), tabby (stripes, M thing, common), DSH (found him in a walmart parking lot, very “just a Cat” energy and vibes in general, even if he was fancy and famous I think he’d be very Keanu Reeves Tony Hawk-esque about it, very humble, very down to earth, he’s fallen deeply in love with every Uber Eats and UPS guy he’s ever met, truly the people’s princess, also the vet always puts him down as that).
However, I ran smack into the set of brick walls separating random person with google access from talented amateur from trained professional when it came to all the marking patterns. Mackerel, ticked, broken??? Sometimes I see I stripes on his torso and sometimes I don’t, somehow, I swear???? To my untrained eyes he looks like all the example cats for those, to some extent. I fear google image results have taken me as far as I can go on my own.
Thankfully while falling down this wiki blue link hole i stumbled across your blog in my search results. So sorry to bug you if your asks are closed or anything btw and I really like your blog it’s super interesting and informative and most importantly filled with kitty cats.
Welcome to the blog! It’s a pleasure to meet your son, I’ve got an orange too!
So he is a Domestic Shorthair and he is a red (‘orange’) bicolor but the interesting thing about red cats is that they’ll visually appear tabby even if they’re genetically solid… so the “M” and stripes don’t necessarily mean he’s a tabby.
And I’m leaning towards him being solid based on the uniform coloring and abscence of lighter colored “spectacles” or ear rims.
If he is a tabby I’d say mackerel or spotted bases on the patterns that are bleeding through, definitely not classic or ticked, but I think he’s genetically a solid cat.
So my assessment is red bicolor!
Also I love his shape. Just a very shaped cat.

My girlfriends hand, ceramic piece by me
Mentioned to my mom I'm asexual a couple months ago and today.... we got into the car and she hit me with, "So you use they/them pronouns now?"
I went, "What. no. she/her."
"How does that work? With she/her/hers and they/them?"
I stared at her. "What are you talking about?"
"Well you came out as-" and I said, "I'm asexual."
She replied, "Like an amoeba, I know."
"Oh. My god. No. Mom. It doesn't- it's not the asexual you learned about in biology. I didn't come out as a single celled organism."
With heavy relief, she said "Oh, it has a different meaning?"
"Yes, mom."
my comic for the fairy anthology we made over in webcomics garden discord! Wretched work to make a comic that's only 8 pages..

July 27, 2026 - Bar-tailed Lark or Bar-tailed Desert Lark (Ammomanes cinctura) Found in a spotty range from Cape Verde across northern Africa and West Asia as far east as Pakistan, these larks live in deserts and dry savannas. They eat seeds, some other plant foods, and insects, foraging on the ground in small flocks outside of the breeding season. Females build nests in shallow depressions under or next to rocks from vegetation and small pebbles. Both parents incubate the clutches of two to four eggs and care for the chicks.
