sorry im thinking about the childrens media discourse again i think a lot of the people who champion the "childrens works often explores serious and mature topics better than works meant for adults" perspective fail to take into account is that while childrens works may be able to broach serious and mature topics, they cant actually delve into them any further than a largely surface level view by nature of who the target audience is, which obviously automatically lends itself to dealing with them in a way that appears to be in better taste. now whether or not they are actually dealt with in better taste than works created for adults is an entirely different wheelhouse because by virtue of only being able to take a surface level skim they dont even have the opportunity to get into the nitty gritty ugly nasty complicated and messy details which may be extremely realistic but not particularly palatable to the audience of people who champion the aforementioned perspective. and like yes obviously because works aimed at adults lend themselves to having less censorship this invites the chance for fetishization and insensitivity and inaccuracy for a variety of reasons but it also opens up the door for a chance to talk about and explore significant aspects of these topics that dont get discussed otherwise because theyre stigmatized and societally considered shameful and not generally speaking considered appropriate for children
