anyways, i havent read a whole lot of DC fics in a minute, but i was randomly reminded of my love for fucked up/complicated jason & bruce dynamics recently so i went looking through the jason and the bad parent bruce wayne tags on ao3.

tel me why exactly ONE of the top 40 kudos'd fics centers around bruce & jason's relationship...

that is so so so real. i left this fandom for a bit because life got busy but then i returned to more bullshit so what was the break for even ♥️ tim overpopulates bat tags and jason tags. it can be so annoying and it's why i'm so overly picky about the fics i read and the fellow fans i engage with, which naturally also tends to make my time in the fandom quite difficult to enjoy sometimes. it's nice that i have my own little bubble now tho!! just a bunch of jason freaks like me so please join us babe <3

bad parents jack and janet drake needs to fly to the sun and explode GET OUT OF MY FACE! i wouldn't be pissed about them if they weren't in so many jason centric fics. jason does not need to take care of that boy who's perfectly fine!!!! bruce being a bad parent to jason and dick is interesting to me because they have compelling enough father-son dynamics to begin with. tim misses the mark with that. batfam as the large concept we know today doesn't exist to me unfortunately, it's nowhere near as interesting as people claim it is

imagine if the joker tattooed/carved jason with something to mark him as bruce’s, as a way to say that they made him together. the tattoo at the beginning of his torture and the brand at the end.

this is all to say, jason todd now has a tattoo on his lower back that says ‘Daddy’s Boy’ or ‘Daddy’s Baby’ or something along that line. it’s essentially a tramp stamp, it’s so humiliating, but something about having a physical reminder that he is bruce’s on his back keeps him going… until he realises bruce isn’t coming for him. won’t ever be coming for him.

he kind of forgets about it until he’s escaped one day (because he can’t see it like he sees the J on his face) and he hooks up with some older guy (perhaps slade) who makes a passing comment about it and jason just freezes up. he knew it was there, but he never thought it would be perceived, so to speak.

he thinks about getting rid of it, but he hates the idea of feeling unbalanced with just the J on his face. he even hooks up with countless older men who find it incredibly hot as a way to overwrite the meaning, but he can’t. can’t stop thinking about bruce.

he would rather the people he’s with in bed take him from behind and see the mark that represents bruce, as opposed to seeing his face and the mark that represents the joker in his mind.

[bruce contemplates excessively after he sees it by necessary circumstance one day in a faraway future. who is daddy referring to? he can’t stop thinking about it.

someone approaches bruce and subtly implies that his son calls him daddy too. maybe it haunts bruce. maybe it’s slade.]

this could be worse if the joker tattoos it referring to himself, and jason tries desperately to delude himself into thinking that no, anyone but the joker and he starts thinking of the tattoo as being dedicated to bruce teehee.

nonetheless, he’ll die before he tells bruce anything. if bruce doesn’t know, if that little bit never made it into the tapes, then there’s no reason to talk about it.

and don't worry babe i completely get it, fandoms have gotten out of control these days. everyone's a purist who thinks their morals are soooo much better than everyone else's. nobody understands the purpose of ao3 anymore. they'll be the same people who defend and love fictional characters who are serial killers or mass murderers but for some reason they gotta draw the line at incest or age gap. they understand it's just fiction when it comes to that stuff but nothing else lol. it's funny too because they'll say proshipping dni or ew you're gross if you're a proshipper but all proshipping means is that you think people should be able to ship whatever they want, INCLUDING non-problematic, cute ships

he's FLEXIBLE. he's acrobatic. he's VERY good with tech. why have i read so many fics and headcanons that act like this isn't true or underestimate these abilities of his?? he can be super big and still great at those things!! BRUCE is so why do we refuse to believe jason is/can be as well

additionally, jason being a lot bigger than bruce is a headcanon i see often from fans who use it to essentially make jason realize he's being an asshole to his poor sad dad who just wants his son back and who did no wrong ever because he's just grieving. don't you see how small he is, jason? you used to be smaller than him by so much and he protected you but now you're bigger than him so it's up to you to change for the better and start protecting him/going easy on him
