Currently thinking about how Manji telling Makie that sheāll be nothing if Anotsu die was supposed to be encouraging but ended up sealing her fate in some twisted hand of fate case of miscommunication š
Iām pretty sure it was meant to inspire inner strength like a āBelieve in Yourselfā kind of messaging but Makie, who has only ever lived her life as extension of other peopleās will, first as a Lady Snowblood adjacent figure to her mother, then as Anotsuās, took it literally. I wonder if that specific line from Manji returned in her thoughts when Anotsu found her again and that was when she fully resigned herself to the role of his enforcer.
I find her parallel to Manji interesting as funnily enough theyāre both better than the person theyāre attached to. Both are skilled swordsmen but more importantly they realized the social and societal dynamics much earlier than their respective masterminds but both are burdened by that knowledge and became drifters as a result
Today marks me and my gf's two year ashkaijiversary in which we started RPing them together. Last time we checked in the word count was around 450k, it's probably at least 500 by now!
This time we wanted to draw something based on another AU we have for them where they're in a band, and we referenced the drawings based on photos of bruce springsteen and clarence clemons.

when akagi likes someone he rly likes them and he doesnt need a reason 4 it and he does a lot of subtle but out of character things for that person. he likes being around them and making them happy and helping them out. see: nangou, osamu. kaiji is fucking pitiful and akagi just makes fun of him

this oneās gonna be a lot easier hahaha JUST FUCKING DO IT
unlike with akagi, i stand by 100% the idea that heās straight. kaiji is straight like i know i ship him in a bunch of gay pairings but thatās not anything at all, because while i feel that he IS straight, there would be exceptions, almost definitely. if he were close enough with someone, and they were important to him platonically, heād hesitate, but when asked to have a relationship, heād most likely say yes. even if it was just to fooling around, like if sahara asked if he wanted to jerk each other off, heād act nervous about it but probably say yes. with him, if it was with someone he cared about for long enough, he wouldnāt say yes due to physical attraction, but rather because he simply cares about them that much. another example of how heād make an exception is if he felt the sort of pleasure he could get from another man and accept and admit that it feels good, because while still being a very respectable person and being a very sweet and giving and selfless man, heās still very sinful when it comes to himself. heās greedy and lazy and gluttonous, so if something felt good, heād like it and want more of it. a sexual relationship wouldnāt mean as much to him as a romantic relationship, but heād get very passionate during sex, and most likely develop feelings for someone because they had sex. kaiji is straight, certainly, but there would be exceptions.
in terms of who heād be the happiest with romantically, thatās actually pretty hard to say. in the entire fkmt universe, thereās not really anyone heād be unconditionally be happy with, since heās not really a very social person. he doesnāt really LIKE anyone else but he respects them and wants to help them, and the only likely person in kaijiās universe that he really likes is sakazaki. sahara would be a good candidate, but as much as kaiji would care about him, sahara would piss him off so much, and sakazaki already has a family and heād only be attracted to kaiji because he was jealous of his youth and his body and his perseverance. he wouldnāt get along with gai, and he wouldnāt get along with zero because zero would be on too high of a level for him. him and mikoko are the only canon pairing in kaiji and he really doesnāt like her at all.
the only person heād be happy with would be akagi. oyagi 100% and regular akagi 90% because kaiji feels the best around older men i have so much to say about oyagi and kaiji but iāve been tryuing to type this for four hours iām so sick today hahaha

Small detail I noticed but Makie learned from her first fight with Manji. The next time we see her pull the same move she uses a different weapon to block attacks so that hers still has the freedom to move.
one thing i really like is how money symbolizes power and is used treated more as a concept in a lot of fukumotoās works, where it doesnāt really seem to matter more than just a status thing but people still strive for it and go to such lengths for it, and the asian three in kazuya-hen flat out say āmoney is garbage, money is useless, it drives people mad and people die over itā and it really makes you think why so many people in his stories just blindly go after moneyĀ especially when they donāt do anything with it
kaiji fucking wastes his money and then feels bad about himself after heās out of debt, ginji and morita constantly strive for more (in moritaās case, itās more like itās just because ginji tells him to), kazuya throws his around to impress people, akagi outright uses it as a way to manipulate people, he throws his own life away for money but could care less about it
if money really mattered so much to where their entire lives are dedicated to just getting money, why would they just do nothing with it
i really liked what mario said when he started crying saying he was tired of people fighting over money, what he said was really powerful and meaningful, and really causes you to stop and realize what all these people are doing and actually think about it. it may come across as just someone whoās poor doesnāt understand the power of money, but i like how it takes someone whoās never had money to say heās tired of money (when all these series are focused around gambling and making money)
