Pancakes, Teasing & Unspoken Things
Morning came quietly.
Soft light filled the house, slow and gentleâlike nothing in the world was rushing you.
I walked into the kitchen, still half-asleep, and there she wasâmaking pancakes like she had her life together.
âYouâre awake,â she smiled.
I nodded, sitting nearby. For a moment, I thought Iâd stay quiet.
But something in me didnât.
âIt hurt,â I said.
She didnât ask what. She just turned off the stove, walked to the couch, and sat down.
I followed.
And then it came out. Not perfectly. Not in order. Just⌠real.
She listened. Fully. No interruptions. No fixing.
When I stopped, she opened her armsâand I leaned into them without thinking.
âIâve got you,â she whispered.
Warm. Safe. The kind of comfort that doesnât ask questions.
Thenâ
âDid I interrupt something?â
We both looked up.
She was standing at the door, calm, observing. Of course.
âIâm just comforting our little baby,â she said softly.
âI hate you,â I groaned.
âSheâs not little anymore,â came the reply. âSheâs a grown woman.â
A pause.
Thenâ
âShe has to see this.â
ââŚwhat?â
Before I could react, she pulled out her phone.
âWaitâstopâdonât you dare!â I laughed, sitting up quickly.
Too late.
âFor documentation,â she said calmly. âLila would appreciate this.â
âXENAâNOââ
âStay where you are.â
âI will not stay where I am!â
I tried to grab the phoneâshe just lifted it higher.
âYouâre making it worse.â
âYouâre unbelievable!â
Click.
Silence.
ââŚyou didnât.â
âI did.â
I covered my face. âIâm leaving this house.â
âIâll send it later.â
âYOU WILL NOTââ
âWeâll see.â
She slipped the phone away like nothing happened.
And somehow⌠that made it worse.
But also funnier.
We ended up sitting together again, pancakes half-eaten, the moment settling into something softer.
Then she spoke again.
âWhen you were in my wifeâs arms⌠did you feel something?â
I laughed immediately. âStop.â
âDid you?â she continued, completely unbothered. âDonât be scared. I wonât eat you. I mean⌠she is charming.â
Something in me pushed back.
âSo what⌠are you jealous, Warrior Princess?â
âStop embarrassing her!â she laughed beside me.
But she stepped closer.
âIf I were really jealous,â she said quietly, âyou wouldnât be sitting here.â
That landed.
âSo,â she added, âgo on.â
I looked down for a second.
âI was upset,â I said. âAnd⌠your Gabrielle has a way of soothing a heartache.â
A small smile.
âSheâs adorable. In all her ways.â
Silence.
Then she pulled her closer, looking at her like nothing else existed.
âIâm in love with the most beautiful woman.â
She smiledâbut of course, couldnât stay serious.
âSo⌠were you a bit jealous, Miss Warrior?â
No answer.
I shook my head, laughing softly.
âYouâre an old couple⌠and you still donât miss a chance to show your love.â
âOld?!â she gasped.
âAccurate,â came the calm reply.
Laughter filled the room.
And just like thatâ
what started heavyâŚ
turned into something warm.
Because somehow, in that house,
you donât stay hidden for long.
But you also donât stay alone.
