he can tell when you're feeling self conscious about your scars. some have faded, some haven't; they're all old, and though michael's never minded them, you sometimes do. his lips form a small frown as he watches you reach for a short sleeve, hesitate, then go for a long sleeve despite the summer heat. or, when you continuously wear full pants even though he knows you'd prefer shorts.
"it's fine when you see them," you explain quietly one day, looking through your closet while he sits on the edge of your bed, "but when other people... when they look at me..."
"i know," michael replies, his voice just as soft and personal. it's one thing to let your boyfriend in, to let him see your past along your body. it's a completely different thing to let strangers, friends, even family, see. "you don't have to show anything you don't want to. not everyone deserves to see your beauty, anyways." he offers a small smile, supportive and sincere, before suggesting, "maybe i could buy you some lighter pants? thinner material, for the summer? shirts, too. i want you to be comfortable, baby."
recovery rarely occurs in a straight line. there's days, certainly, when you feel fine showing your scars to the general public, just as there's days where you want to hide them. there's even days where you feel self-conscious in front of michael, though those are few and far between. he never takes it to heart, knowing how sensitive and personal an issue it is.
you might find it corny, but michael sometimes likes to kiss the scars on your skin. gently, very gently, almost as if his lips weren't meeting your skin at all. his hands hold you, cradling you, sometimes caressing as he shows his affection. it's entirely nonsexual, his touch; he keeps it respectful and appreciative as he kisses all around. then, his lips meet yours, and he murmurs about how strong you are and how proud he is of you. "you're doing better every day," michael whispers, letting himself truly show off his sappy, poetic side, "you're so loved. so beautiful, inside and out. i'm so happy for you. i'm so happy with you."
