What to do when people are gossiping
(how to make them stop, what to say, xtra!)
ahh gossiping. how I loved it. Notice how I said loved? yeah, gossiping is terrible! it spreads lies, makes people feel bad, and also makes you feel bad afterwards. It has literally 0 good effects.
Proverbs 11:13- Gossip betrays confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.
Of course, it's a sin to lie. So we can't just make up a lie to get away. Instead, we can be telling the truth, and avoid this horrid sin!
Q) "Did you hear about ____'s Mom?"
A) "No, please tell me later! and do you want to get lunch"
Q) "Isn't ____ so annoying?"
A) "Eh, I don't really talk to them, but shouldn't we go to our next class?"
Q) "Look at ____"s hair!"
A) "Wow.. oh, and do you wanna walk around a bit?"
See! So simple! Just say a word such as "Oh" or "Wow" or anyhting else that doesn't agree or disagree. Then change the subject to something you usually talk about.
In quotations marks because your not actually confronting them, more like showing them that their on the wrong.
Q) "Woah.. isn't ____ so ugly?"
A) "Well, we are just teens so you know, we're still developing and stuff.."
Q) "Did you hear that ____ is ____?"
A) "No.. and I thought you didn't like them, why are we talking about them.."
A) "Yeah she can sometimes be rude, but I don't think she means it, maybe we should just tell her?"
This one's risky, and you'll probably have to adjust it depending on your friends personality, but if they keep on gossiping. especially negatively, then it's best not to be friends
Q)"Omg did you see ____?"
A) "Let's get lunch, the queue is short!"
Q) "Did you hear about ____?"
A) "No, I don't get into drama and stuff.."
A) "Isn't the sky so pretty today?"
These are my techniques to stop being a gossip! But how do we stop our friends from doing it?
Tell them it's wrong, and that imagine if they were in their shoes. You don't have to perform a Maryin Luther King Jr (love that guy) type of speech! Just drop it into conversation:
"Hey, you know how we always talk about ____, well, it's old news now, plus we should be planning for the summer!"
Or you just don't engage in it! If the gossip is really bad, get out of there!! Don't get tempted by its pretty face. It's all lies. Lies and deceit!
TL:DR- DONT GOSSIPP! Just ignore, confront, or change the subject! Remember that we aren't living for this stinky world 🤢 we are living for God, our Spirit, our Svaiour and Heaven!
