People who come out of the New Age, tarot card reading, and other occult practices to follow Jesus Christ should not enter the right-wing conservative Christian pipeline. Many are preaching a different gospel centered on conservative politics, American traditions, and the culture war. That is not the Gospel of Jesus Christ or any political movement.

Do Not Leave One Bondage for Another

Text: Galatians 1:6-9; Colossians 2:8; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4; John 18:36; Acts 17:11

Many people who leave the New Age, tarot card reading, astrology, spirit guides, crystals, psychics, and other occult practices have experienced the emptiness of those things. By God's grace, they come to realize that salvation is found only in Jesus Christ. They turn from darkness to the Light of the world.

That is a wonderful beginning but every new believer must continue to keep their eyes fixed on Christ.

The apostle Paul warned the churches:

"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel." (Galatians 1:6, KJV)

Paul did not say there were many true gospels. There is only one Gospel. Any message that adds something else as the center of a person's hope is a different gospel.

The Gospel is not conservative politics. It is not progressive politics. It is not nationalism. It is not a culture war. The Gospel is not built on American traditions or any earthly nation.

The Gospel is this:

"That Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

That is the message that saves.

Jesus did not invite people to follow a political movement. He said:

"Follow me." (Matthew 4:19)

When Jesus stood before Pilate, He declared:

"My kingdom is not of this world." (John 18:36)

Christ's kingdom is greater than every earthly kingdom. Our primary allegiance belongs to Him.

Scripture also warns us not to be taken captive by human philosophies:

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men... and not after Christ." (Colossians 2:8)

Every believer should test what they hear. The Bereans were commended because they searched the Scriptures daily to see whether what they were were being taught was true (Acts 17:11). We should do the same. No preacher, teacher, influencer, or political leader is above the authority of God's Word.

If you have left the New Age, do not trade one form of deception for another. Your hope is not found in hidden knowledge, political power, or human movements. Your hope is found in Jesus Christ alone.

Keep your eyes on Christ. Read your Bible. Pray. Love God and love your neighbor. Proclaim the Gospel to everyone, because Jesus came to save sinners and calls all people everywhere to repent and believe in Him.

Do not let any political movement become more important than Christ. The Church's mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ, not disciples of any earthly ideology.

May we hold fast to the true Gospel, glorify Christ alone, and point others to the Savior who died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures.
