Rabbot Prompt: Stillness
Submitted by the incomperable @sheafrotherdon
"I've dealt with my demons," Jack had told Robby. It had been a complete, utter bald-faced lie, and Robby's wholly unimpressed face - even in the midst of his own crisis - had called him on it.
AU where Jack and Robby 'meet' on Grindr...
Robby, having no idea it's Jack he's talking to, but LAWD the hot silver fox who sends him ab and thigh pics is the only thing keeping him stable (not), and he makes no correlation between his best friend and his online... thing.
Meanwhile, Jack knows everything. He catches Robby staring at his biceps at work and sends him a few 'post-workout' pics an hour before the end of his shift, knowing he'll get a doting paragraph and a belly pic out of it later.
Jack ESPECIALLY loves watching Robby go to the bathroom and having his phone ping, opening it to find Robby's scrub top pulled up, hairy, soft belly on display and a bulge in his pants, accompanied by a shy note about how he isn't as in shape as Jack.
UGH grindr rabbot. Married for twenty years is so good but also i love a good ol' dating app scenario. Plus Robby feels good in his body bc whoever this stranger is, he really gets off on dad bods. Good for him!
I desperately need this app to understand that being in your 50's is not elderly. People in their 50's are still working full time jobs and have active social lives that are not centered around just quiet activities and hip replacements. People in their 50's are going to bars, concerts, hiking, vacationing, adventuring, partying, and doing all sorts of wild and fun stuff as well as staying in and reading or watching their favorite movies. They have hobbies and lives and navigate around their aging bodies with a lot more ease than you would think.
Elderly is basically like 70-75+. Definitely 80+.
Joking is fun and trust that those of us who are older make them more than you do but we hardly have one foot in the grave. I'm 41 and tear it up probably better than you can. But for the sake of realism in your fics, stop writing 50 year olds like they're the fucking Crypt Keepers. (Google it)
Thank you OP.

Something to Hold
Rated: Teen
Relationship: Jack Abbot/Michael Robinavitch
Summary: A washout service dog who can't stop caring about strangers. A man who can't remember the last time he touched something alive that wasn't crashing. Jack looks at both of them and sees the same animal.

Notes: I’ve been trying to finish On Call, but this has been rattling around in my noggin a while. Please enjoy and comment if you feel compelled.
Robby had been back for twenty-three days, and he could tell you the exact number because he'd started counting again. Counting was one of the things Dr. Feinberg had suggested during their video sessions. If the static rose, count something real. Days. Breaths. The number of trucks on the street outside his apartment. It worked about half the time, which his physician brain insisted on noting was no better than placebo, and the other half of the time he ended up sitting in his kitchen at 4 am, his heart trying to escape his sternum, thinking thoughts he didn't say out loud to anyone.
Well. Almost anyone.
Jack knew. Jack had known since the first night back, when Robby had ridden the bike straight from the Canadian border to Jack's place instead of his own, fourteen hours in the saddle, and Robby stood on the doorstep vibrating like a struck tuning fork. He hadn't been able to explain why Vermont had been fine and Quebec had been fine and Ontario had been fine, and then somewhere along the highway the whole thing had come apart in his chest like wet paper. Jack hadn't asked him to explain. Jack had just pulled him inside, fed him, and sat there with a hand splayed warm between his shoulder blades until the shaking stopped.
Goose is the best dog. Instant serotonin boost.
yayyyyyyyy
He is such a goober. I love it. So happy for the entire cast and crew
Jack’s gotten used to it, to Robby’s six week itches. He learned to tuck his chin and catch the punches with his forearms. His heart could only take so much. The blocks worked to protect his heart, but he still wound up bruised after each announcement.
“I think she’s the one,” Robby would say. And a month and a half later, “it’s not working out.” A decade ago, before Janey, Robby would add, “and I don’t know why,” but after Janey, he started saying, “it’s my fault. You know the one linking factor in all these breakup? Me.” Robby’s smile was sickly, and it broke Jack’s heart.
Once, in a fit of brave drunkenness, he’d replied flippantly, flirtatiously, “that’s because you haven’t dated me yet.”
Robby laughed and clapped him on the knee.
His heart had been bruised for a long, long time.
And afterwards? Well, Jack tried to move on. Get on the apps, message some people, maybe schedule a date or two. That was, until he mentioned a date to Robby, and Robby, well. He acted like Robby.
Robby had gotten used to it, to Jack being single. After his wife had died, Jack took time to mourn, and Robby stepped up to become his default person. Emergency contact? You got it. Ride to the airport? Of course. Need to sit in silence after a shift with someone else in the room? Hell, Robby could use that too.
Jack had always been Robby’s default person, so it’s not like that was a hardship. He was just returning the favor. Even while Robby was with Janey, he never switched his emergency contact away from Jack Abbot, though he’d gotten close.
Robby didn’t date to find a new default person, was the thing. He couldn’t give a reason why, exactly, he tried anymore. He suspected it was to fill that hole in his heart, the one burrowed into the core of him when he was eight. Maybe that’s why he flitted from person to person, looking for someone willing to make him whole. And when each relationship failed, it wasn’t the other person’s fault. It was Robby’s. He was trying to heal something that was terminal.
“That’s because you haven’t dated me yet,” Jack had joked. And Robby laughed, because that’s how you respond to jokes like that, but those words burrowed into him, a twin line he didn’t dare look at too hard.
Robby shouldn’t have been surprised when Jack told him he couldn’t get a beer on Friday because he had a date. But Robby had never been good at doing what he should do in relationships, so he felt like he’d been decked.
“A date?” He squeaked. He cleared his throat. “With, uh, with who?”
“Someone from an app,” Jack said evasively.
Robby’s mind stuttered through a billion questions he desperately wanted the answer to, and his tongue decided to say the one he didn’t honestly care about. “Is she hot?”
Jack rolled his eyes at Robby and walked away.
Robby spent the whole week fishing as subtly as he could, which wasn’t subtle at all.
“Why are you so obsessed with this, Robby? Let the man go on his date.” Dana had spent the week trying to talk sense into him. It hadn’t been working.
“He just won’t tell me anything about her,” Robby complained.
“It’s a first date. His first since his wife’s death. Maybe he doesn’t want to make it bigger than it is.”
“But it is a big deal,” Robby argued.
“How many first dates have you gone on in the past five years?” Dana rebutted. “Has Jack ever behaved this way?”
“No,” Robby moped.
“Well then, let it be.”
“But—“
Dana cut him off. “If it bothers you so much, why don’t you ask him on a date?” She let out a sharp exhale. “You’re as bad as my daughter when she was a teenager,” she muttered.
“I don’t—“
“You do, Robby. You really, really do.” Dana tapped her pen on the clipboard and started to walk away.
“You don’t even know what I was going to say,” Robby called after her. She waved him away over her shoulder.
Friday began like a readied guillotine, and Jack wound up popping in for a few hours to help out.
“What’s going on, brother? You keep giving me side eye.” Jack leaned on the counter next to Robby and pressed their shoulders together. “Don’t tell me it’s about tonight.” He had a teasing tone, the bastard.
“I was wondering…” he trailed off. Dana caught his eye and raised her eyebrows before she made a very distinct 180 turn and walked away.
“Wondering… what?”
Robby shook his head. “If you maybe wanted to go on a date.” He didn’t dare look at Jack, but there was no immediate response. Then the silence grew longer. Robby would worry Jack had left except their upper arms were still pressed together. “With me,” he added, in case it was unclear.
Jack chuckled, which wasn’t the most promising response. Robby leaned away from him, but Jack’s shoulder followed, maintaining the pressure.
“I’d love to, Robby.” Robby let out a huge sigh of relief. “How about tonight?”
Robby looked sideways at him. “Don’t you have a date tonight?”
“I canceled this morning.” Jack said cheerfully. “My evening has opened up. It’s got a hole the size and shape of Michael Robinavitch, if you’re willing to fill it.”
“But—”
“I’ll pick you up? 8 o’clock?” Jack clapped his shoulder and walked away with a bounce to his step.
“What just happened?” Robby asked the Hub. Dana rolled her eyes at him.
When he was little, Robby liked lying with his head in his bubbe's lap, as she stroked his hair and told him stories. It quickly became their favourite thing, and even when he got older, she still let him do that, his head in her lap, as he told her about his day, or sometimes they just stayed like that in silence, comfort and reassurance. They did that until she passed.
As an adult, sometimes the sudden urge to feel that again and be comforted, almost takes him out with its intensity. He desperately misses the bond of unconditional love and trust. He'd love to feel that sense of peace and security just once more, with hands in his hair and and a voice promising him that everything will be okay.
But he's not a child anymore and it's just wishful thinking. He should be the one offering that comfort. But it's not like he can. Jake isn't little anymore, and it's not like he'd let him, even if he was speaking to him.
So it's fine. It doesn't matter. Robby is too old to be offered comfort in this way, and he doesn't have anyone to offer it to, so it is what it is. He had never asked any of his short term partners for this, the vulnerability was not something he could afford with them and the trust wasn't there. Even Janey wasn't privy to that part of Robby's needs.
Until the time he comes down with the flu. So bad, that he has to text Jack and ask for some help. Jack turns up to find Robby in the throes of fever, tangled up in sweaty blankets, and looking like he hasn't slept in days.
Jack gets Robby water and medicine. He helps him to change clothes and moves him to the sofa while he changes the bedding. Afterwards, settling Robby back into the bed, he suddenly finds himself with Robby's head on his lap, warm face nosing into his stomach and hears perhaps the most contented sigh he ever heard out of his best friend.
Safe. Jack hears Robby murmur. Safe now. Finally safe.
He wasn't really planning on leaving Robby on his own, but he certainly isn't going anywhere now. Settling against the headboard and cradling Robby closer to him, Jack slides his hand into Robby's hair and is rewarded with another soft sigh as Robby nuzzles even closer.
Jack doesn't move as Robby starts quietly sobbing. He doesn't yet know the importance of what he has the privilege to provide. Robby will tell him one day and Jack will always be the safe space that Robby needs. All he knows now as he leans down to press a kiss to his dearest friend's head, holding him impossibly closer, is that that's where he is supposed to be for as long as Robby needs.

Model Papa Robby

"Wow. I didn't know he could look like that."
"Serious smoke show."
Jack is working a swing for Robby because he is a very good friend, but that also means he has to manage the residents and students. They're clustered around Javadi's phone, scrolling through something and chattering about it.
If it's TikTok they're gonna have a problem.
"That doesn't sound like charting, people."
Guilty heads pop up and Jack has to fight to keep his expression serious. "What's so important?"
Victoria holds up her phone. "Um. Doctor Robby did a photo shoot in the hospital, but you probably already knew about that."
Sunglasses in the elevator. That green shirt. Jack very nearly swallows his tongue. Holy shit, Robby.
"Admin probably put him up to it. Now phones down, back to work," he reminds her gently, only to slip into Robby's office and message him the pictures followed by question marks.
Look, he knows he's objectively hot. Anyone with eyes can see that. But damnit if Robinavitch doesn't clean up well.
Robby replies with a string of curses. Jack grins. He's going to have so much fun with this.
What you guys call “old man yaoi,” I call “dudes my age yaoi” 🤣
Same op, same.

but anyways i'm very happy with the art and very glad to share with you all hehehe

That's your Chief of Staff Summary: As Jack and Robby celebrate their one-year anniversary together, they look back at the Presidential campaign, and when they realised they loved each other
(This is the 5th story in the series but comes 3rd chronologically)
****
When you're trying to run an entire country, and you have very little time together, sex tends to become rushed and a little frantic. It's about reaching the climax quickly and efficiently, often with the least amount of clothes removed as possible.
But tonight's their one-year anniversary as a couple, Jack's had the evening cleared in his diary for weeks, with his fingers crossed just as long that no countries decide to declare war all of a sudden.
He planned the evening perfectly. Chinese food, beers, and a direct order that no one is to enter his room unless the world is ending.
For once, fate is on his side.
They eat on the floor, the takeout cartons scattered on the coffee table, an ice hockey game on the TV in the background. Once all the food is washed down, Jack drags Robby to the en-suite, the two of them just about managing to fit into the shower.
As much as Jack would like to have sex with Robby in the shower, there is neither the room nor the youthfulness required, so Jack coaxes Robby back into the bedroom, damp and pink-skinned.
The sex is slow, considerate, and purposeful. He takes his time, kisses Robby for what feels like hours, runs his hands over every inch of naked skin available to him. He draws out soft moans from Robby like he was born to do it, and they hold each other tightly as they reach the climax.
They stay linked together for a while afterwards, foreheads pressed together, breathing the same air, luxuriating in the moment.
It's Robby who pulls himself reluctantly out of bed to retrieve a cloth to wipe them both down, then slips back under the cotton sheets to press himself up against Jack's side. Jack's body is hot and clammy, and Robby's skin sticks to him uncomfortably, but Jack pulls him even closer.
They lie there for a while without speaking, letting their pulses return to normal.
"Happy anniversary," Robby finally says, pressing his dry lips to Jack's collarbone. He's never admitted they're his favourite feature, but Robby's attention to his collarbones hasn't gone unnoticed.
Keep reading on AO3
If you haven't read this series, go do it. It's exceptional.
Wait, you were actually born in the 1900's? Thats so cool
i am going to eat my own entire skin
Reblog if you were born in the 1900's.
