it’s because reality is terrifying and our world’s dying, and our developmental years were spent in a constant state of using increasingly nonsensical humor to cope
It’s called the rise of neo-dadaism and the same thing happened during WWII
well that’s not concerning At All
time out hold up sweetheart let’s get it together before you wanna spread art historical misinformation
@biggest-gaudiest-patronuses has a spot on summary of the dada ideology; these artists reacted to the horrors and atrocities of WWI by embracing nonsense in a world that no longer seemed to make sense
but the period we’re in right now is decidedly not neo-dada! you know why? because neo-dada already happened, and not during WWII but during the 60s and 70s, through artists like robert rauschenberg, yves klein, yoko ono, and nam june paik.
what was going on in the 60s and 70s that might involve “terrifying” reality and “increasingly nonsensical” coping methods? the cold war! now the cold war is in much more recent memory,
but if you wanna talk about nonsensical coping methods among millennials? i would say “lol xD so random” culture is probably the best starting point, which is definitely post-cold war (knowyourmeme is giving me 2004 as a good benchmark date).
2004 is only three years after 2001 so this resurgence of dada thinking could easily be seen as initially a reaction to 9/11, and we can then trace the antics of the bush administration, the shift of the overton window, the rise of internet culture, the 2016 election, and the current political moment as developmental factors behind this current dada moment.
so since neo-dada already happened and this is definitely its own thing with its own factors, and since a big part of our dada is the influence of the internet on modernity, i posit that we start calling this e-dada or #dada
tl;dr: neo-dada is already taken, it happened in the 60s/70s, we’re doing our own kind of dada now
dada kink
Is it too late to delete my tumblr?
it’s never too late
If you think about the 9/11 thing makes sense because many melinials had their early childhoods and maybe even early teens post 9/11 in the 90s.
So our generations was rudely thrown out of an idyllic era of peace for the west we had always known by those towers falling and the ensuing damage to western society it caused.
Could you fill me in on the whole grape-kun thing?
A japanese zoo, Tobu Zoo, had a colab with the anime Kemono Friends where they added cutouts of the anime characters to the enclosures of the matching animals to attract visitors and stuff, one of these characters being Hululu, an airhead anthropomorphic Humboldt penguin:
Grape-kun, an old humboldt penguin who’d been abandoned by his former mate due to his health issues, started showing a lot of interest for the cutout, staring at it for hours, trying to reach it on top of the tall rock where it was placed, and even trying to court it.
Of course, Kemono Friends already being a surprise hit show, the thing went viral and tons of art, jokes and other content were made. Even after the colab was over, the zoo didn’t remove Grape-kun’s sunshine, and Hululu’s VA Ikuko Chikuta even visited Grape-kun during an educational event:
Unfortunately, Grape-kun was already old and his health started to deteriorate. He was removed from his enclosure for treatment, along with his muse of course, that was placed next to him. On october 12, 2017, Tobu Zoo announced that Grape-kun passed away, with Hululu by his side in his final moments. Once again Grape-kun started trending, this time in a sadder tone as fans, visitors and part of the Kemono Friends staff paid their respects.
As a final homage to Grape-kun, a new cutout was added to the penguin enclosure in january 2018, immortalizing this romance:
And thus ends the tale of Grape-kun and Hululu. May our little Friend rest in penguin heaven with his anime wife, gone, but never forgotten.

Regardless of the numbers on your paycheck or in your bank account, nobody is less than you.
Also most people in NYC are working more than 1 job. I know people living out shelters working 2 jobs.
So the fact that people are working 2 jobs and living in shelters shows that having a job or jobs doesn’t prevent homelessness. So there should still be no superiority complex in these employees.
This didn’t happen in New York City
This happened in Syracuse, New York, where I live. It is one of the poorest cities in the entire United States. We have a large number of homeless people, many who are mentally ill and/or disabled. When these stories are labeled as “New York,” people think it’s NYC and end up ignoring the issues in “upstate” NY.
This homeless man’s name is Jeremy Dufresne. He is a homeless man suffering from schizophrenia. He was charging his phone in order to contact his mother. A gofundme was put together in order to replace Dufresne’s clothes and phone charger. So far 22k has been reached to help him get on his feet.
Al-Amin Muhammad, a local homeless advocate, confronted the Dunkin Donuts employees. He runs an organization called We Rise Above the Streets, which has been feeding and clothing homeless people in Syracuse, NY. You can support this organization by donating here.
(Money supports distribution of meals, clothing, and hygiene items)
Al-Amin Muhammed is a former homeless man, drug dealer, and convict. He now dedicates his life to helping those who went through the same struggles as he did. He actively protested this Dunkin Donuts. He met with the owners of this store, and they agreed to contribute to feeding the homeless.
Additionally:
The workers who dumped the water on Dufresne were fired almost immediately. Furthermore, one of the workers publicly apologized for his actions. Another popular donut shop is giving away 1,000 donuts to the homeless in the wake of what happened.
Again, this isn’t about New York City. Poverty and homelessness are a big issue for Syracuse, NY.
