Important Fact of the Day
In the film The Mist (2007), based on the 1980 Stephen King novella of the same name, there is a character played by Andre Braugher. This means that if you haven’t seen the movie, but have read the novella and have watched every episode of Brooklyn 9-9, you can imagine Captain Holt interacting with the plot of the movie. This is absolutely fucking fantastic, and practically writes itself.
“Can’t you see by the look on my face that I’m completely terrified right now.”
“I will now give an inspirational speech that will rally us to come together in the face of adversity. This speech will last approximately three minutes and thirty-four seconds. I expect you to take notes. Pens and paper are down Aisle Seven, next to the crispy hexagon* cereal. Naturally, anyone purchasing writing materials can leave the money in the cash register, as the cashiers have now been eaten.”
“Are you using a red pen to take notes? Perhaps you have mistaken me for some sort of a comedian, whose words you are required to jot down in an appropriately whimsical style. I suppose it’s my own fault; Kevin always did say that my discussion of the antics of the second-chair violinist at the New York Philharmonic always left him in tears.”
“No, that wasn’t part of the speech. You’ll know when the inspirational speech begins when I start the timer on my wristwatch.”
I can only assume the actual movie would be a huge disappointment, and now must never see it as a result.
*Captain Holt has clearly decided to describe all supermarket foodstuffs using their generic equivalent rather than the brand names. “Would you like a double-filled chocolate sandwich cookie? Ah yes. An ‘Or-ee-o’. Yes, I can see how I might call them that, if I was still relying on my mother to make my lunches for me.”

Sometimes I like to transcribe letters to my future baby in my head about the lessons I've learned.
I'm not sure how to explain but ever since I was little I had this feeling that I couldn't carry a baby for some reason. We give it our best and I really hope but at the end of the day the idea of it actually working seems kind of ridiculous and not real to me.
These are dark days and this world is so rotten, is it really a good idea to bring a new soul into it? I want to so bad but I feel like everything is against us, money, my disability.. I'm embarrassed to tell anyone we're trying because I think they'll think I'm an idiot given our circumstances. But what am I supposed to do? Give up on being a mom because I'm poor? It's not fair..
I admit though that I'm equally disappointed and relieved when the tests come back negative. It's a weird feeling.

I pray that some day I will get to explain to my grandchildren that I lived in a wild time when people were allowed to suffer and die because they were denied health care. I pray they look at me with wide eyes and shocked expressions as I explain to them that the innovations that took so long to make actually existed - the cure, the treatment, new experimental help, all of it - but we were denied it because of our income. I pray they they don't take it for granted even though they didn't have to deal with it in their life time. I pray it blows their minds when they think about how long people dealt with this in our country. I pray it teaches them a valuable lesson about human nature that they take to heart and I pray our struggle to fix it inspires them not to be bitter about their own struggles in their time. I pray I find ways to help fix this instead of sitting on my ass and praying.
I know these are dark days, like nothing we anticipated or prepared for and it's hard to even imagine an end to them but if history has taught me anything it will come. We are all prisoners of hope.
There are so many things I worried I would never have in my life, I felt them in the back of my mind when I wasn’t worrying, like a black cloud hanging over me that never rained colouring my world. But when the sun finally showed up, and oh was she beautiful, my only regret was that I had worried so much over something as certain as the sunrise.
Had to cull a few more plants yesterday, I thought “I’ve destroyed many a plant with my darkness” so brooding and deep lol but it’s true, I just don’t get enough sunlight and the lightbulbs I can afford don’t quite cut it either. But that’s okay, it’s a freeing feeling, now I can focus more on low light plants. It still varies but there are plants that don’t mind the low light here so bad, my begonias have really thrived in it!! I’d like to give violets a go, my mom always told me about how her mother used to grow them.
A few years ago in November I went to Florida with a work friend of mine, a snap decision I made just cuz Lucy (names have been changed to protect the innocent) is fun and spontaneous and talked me into it. It was so wonderful, the surprisingly best time I’d had in forever and I always dreamed of going back. I was hoping it would be like that when Kenny and I went to Disneyworld but well.. ugh let’s just say it wasn’t and move on.
Yesterday Lucy posted a bunch of pictures of her and her kids in Florida, they were coming to see the manatees that head to electric plants in the winter. I always hoped she’d ask me to go with her again and in that moment I knew I could never go back. Not back to Florida mind you, just back to relive those two amazing days I had with her. Her kids are growing up, I never got to spend time with her daughter like I wanted to and we’re just growing apart. As you can imagine with my disability I don’t get out much and I can tell that constantly pisses her off. I don’t get to keep very many friends in the real world where people expect me to physically show up all the time, I feel like it’s my own damn fault.
Anyway pity party over we’re moving on! I still want to go back to see the beach though, even if it can’t be the same. Maybe I can make something else just as special, at the very least it’ll be interesting. I feel like maybe I should go by myself but Idk how I would handle something like that.. I just don’t want people interfering and keeping me from doing what I want to do. I feel like I would end up arguing a lot with my mom, Kenny would go but I know he would hate the beach plus his work schedule is a nightmare.
My whole life wanted to see sea turtles hatch, I thought you had to go a lot farther away than Florida to see it but it turns out you don’t. I found a couple conservation groups where you can walk the beach at night and possibly see some, I think one was close to where the manatees go too. I wanna go there and I think maybe I’m supposed to do it alone.
Ever since the first time I saw a video of sea turtles hatching it blew my mind that they knew what to do and where to go. Their parents were long gone and they were literally just born yet somehow they just know to crawl to the sea and take care of themselves. I know many of them don’t survive very long but each one is bound and determined and by some miracle some of them make it and come back to leave their own babies later, even with scientific explanation you gotta admit that’s pretty incredible.

Bonsai apple tree growing a full-sized apple.
A perfect balance of extremely impressive and completely ridiculous.
Apple trees are DETERMINED. My parents planted a twig of an apple tree, and that first year it grew one apple. And the whole thing was bent over from the weight of it. It had one job and by God it was gonna do it.
she did such a good job I’m so proud
You ever do something a long time in the past that only had relevance to the future?
I ordered this wallet from wish about a month ago.
Touche past Emily, touche. I guess I'm not an umbrella afterall.

I really need something new. Some kind of project, something meaningful, something big maybe idk.. I was talking to my therapist (Julie retired so I'm seeing a new one, Mary, she's much closer to my age) about what was missing.. I came to the conclusion that it was religion but I don't really know what I should do about that. I've had a really hard time just believing in god at all since I left Unity, I don't know that I'd really feel comfortable going to one of their churches again.. and other churches are just as creepy and fanatical in different ways. I miss feeling like part of a community though..
I'm still interested in religion but more in an academic way so I looked into studying religion but that just opened another ugly can of worms. There aren't any groups that meet about this, I'd basically have to take college courses and as far as I can tell the community college that I used to go to doesn't have it.. Not to mention my issues with college from the past *shudder* but when it comes to learning (and friendship) I'm always willing to take another turn at bat (maybe this one won't hit me in the face you never know could be a homerun).
This morning I woke up with the crazy idea of going back to my job as a school bus aid at Kenny's job. I don't know though, that would be a lot of pressure. I've definitely been doing great with babysitting, but it's not the actual thing I do at a job that gets in the way, if that were the case I wouldn't have applied for disability I would have kept looking and trying. This is something I have a very hard time articulating (part of why that claim failed spectacularly).
Years ago someone asked me "if qualifications weren't an issue and you were paid in happiness what job could you do?" I thought long and hard at this and what I realized was that there was nothing. The very act of needing to be somewhere on the regular no matter what and the pressure of performing a task and having to face people no matter how I felt day after day would always lead me down the same path of mental breakdown. How do you explain this without people thinking you just don't try hard enough? Even I have trouble believing myself when I fucking cop to it, but it wasn't something I chose.. and the very idea that anyone would think I did, that I'm just lazy and not trying after all I've done and all I've been through..
Forget it

Annie and I love snuggle time ❤
It's been a rocky couple of months but I'm just so grateful to have come out of my latest depressive episode in time for Christmas. ❤🎄

I may have dropped the witch thing but the one thing I didn't get rid of was my altar. Thought I'd light it up for Christmas ❤

I want to run through a field of my deepest insecurities, I want to turn all my nightmares into fireflies and catch them in a jar.

Everyone I talk to tells me it's coincidence, unusual circumstances, at the very least not my fault but after all the friendships that have fallen apart this year it's hard not to worry that they'll all just inevitably end that way. I tell myself I should just enjoy the journey but it's hard. I feel like my heart has a "closed for business" sign over it.

How to know you were born with depression: okay obviously the small details will be a bit skewed here because I was very young. Going to movies with my parents made me nervous, for some reason when the movie ended all I could think about was that my parents are going to die someday. The summer before I started 5th grade I would cry seemingly at random, I'd be in the middle of the store having a good time with my mom and I'd just burst into tears. I remember at the end of the day at daycare suddenly feeling hopeless, that I'll-never-be-happy-again feeling that's so infamous. If I heard classical music I would cry, it made me think of funerals, I don't know why.
I recently found out that there are several studies that link ptsd with genetics. Have I ever mentioned that my father was a marine with a lot to prove during the Vietnam war? He visited Cambodia, he never ever says what happened.

It occurs to me that maybe the "tough it out" strategy for this latest depressive episode was really not a good idea and frankly shines a spotlight on my internalized ableism problem. I lie to my psychiatrist a lot, I always tell the truth to my therapist. The reason for this is because my previous psychiatrist changed my meds around A LOT and I ended up on a really shitty cocktail that almost landed me in the hospital (had to do a six week outpatient course and take a month off from work).
I'm honestly terrified of feeling that bad ever again. But that's why I ditched him and got this new guy, I should probably let him do his job but I have a very hard time trusting psychiatrists.. they spend like 5 minutes with you, charge you your 100 bucks, and send you on your way. Hard to trust system like that with something as fragile as my mental health.

I was supposed to do laundry with my neighbor today, something I've grown to really enjoy, but I woke up unable to function for some reason.. I think it might be time for another med change but idk.. I just really hate to mess with it. I've had really intrusive thoughts lately. Is it normal to think about what they'd find at your autopsy while taking the stairs to the basement? I mean I feel like that's pretty normal for me. Is it schizophrenia if the voice in your head screaming at you is your own?
