Iâm not dead! Just lazy.
I never posted any pictures of Shimizu Kiyoko here but I made her for Tracon because of Haikyuu! group stuff. I was just a human prop basically. (Pic by Kis)
A while ago I started working on Kokkuri-san from Gugure! Kokkuri-san. I was supposed to finish him for Kitacon in Kemi but I fell sick so I couldnât finish him in time. And even now he is incomplete.
And also I might or might not have ordered a wig for Sugawara Koushi from Haikyuu! I wasnât supposed to make any of the boys in the series but Suga is such a darling so I couldnât resist (and because Iâm too short for most of the characters I like in the series).
This is what I have been making in secret.
We took part in the Finnish WCS preliminaries for the third time. Me as Mercedes and Rorune as Elfaria from Odin Sphere. I had lots of ups and downs while making this costume. In the end Iâm quiet pleased with it even though I know itâs not perfect at all.
We placed 2nd.
Pictures taken and edited by Kis.
Stuff that happened:
I went to Animeco and finally we had the whole Baccano! group together! Yay! Claire: Rorune, Chane: Kide, Nice: Me, Jacuzzi: woodi, Isaac: Harri, Miria: Soffi and the picture by Rabbana.
Also we had two local events recently; Chibicon and Anime Seminar. I was working in both of them. In Chibicon I was a cosplay competition judge and in the Seminar I hosted the cosplay competition as James from Pokemon.
I wore Kagome in Chibicon but I had made it earlier for Animecon but the wig didnât arrive in time for the convention. James is a old costume from 2013.
This (and something else too) is what I have been up to as of late.
Me and my lovely friends went to Desucon (Finland) and I made just one new cosplay. Saturday I wore Edea and we took some pictures but they didnât turn out that well :( BUT on Sunday I wore Fujimoto from Ponyo.Â
I donât like the movie that much but Fujimoto makes my heart beat faster. This costume turned out to be much more work than what I anticipated or even wanted. The stripes, wig and nose; so much work. And Iâm not even that satisfied with the end result. Oh well.
Hopefully Iâll be having a proper photo shoot with Fujimoto in the near future. A photo shoot where I get wet.

And more pictures of Senjougahara!
I promise that next time Iâll have something new to show. I just love these pictures Kis took so much. I have new cosplay in the making but there isnât much to show yet.

A sneak peak of what Kis and I had going on in Cosvision last weekend! Thanks again love <3
I didnât have the time to make anything new for Cosvision so I wore Senjougahara again. I think this has become one of my favorite costumes so far. Itâs so easy and I love the character so much. More pictures coming soon!
Kis was a doll and took some quick shots of my Sora at Desucon Frostbite. Hopefully Iâll get a chance to have proper pictures taken at some point. Also there is the Kingdom Key I made.

Dear non-Finnish cosplay people!
How does the media in your home country treat cosplay? Are they informed? Do they do their research? Do they even care about cosplay?
Iâm preparing a talk on the relationship between cosplay and media, and though I am approaching the subject from a Finnish perspective, Iâd love to know how things are in other countries. The talk itself will be in Finnish, but if thereâs interest, Iâd be happy to turn it into a video series in English sometime later this year.
Feel free to reblog this post so that more people get a chance to share their experiences! I have posted this on my cosplay page on Facebook as well, so apologies if you feel like Iâm spamming.Â
Picture time!
Nice is an old costume reused. I made the costume back in 2010. I was supposed to fix stuff but Sora took all my time so I didnât get the chance.
We had a small Baccano! group in Desucon Frostbite on Sunday as a tribute to the guest of honor, Takahiro Oomori. There wasnât really a good place to take pictures of the whole group but Kis snapped some shots of us once again. And we plan to have bigger Baccano! group at some point  anyway <3

jemichi90 reblogged your post Hi there!I have been busy and sick and... and added:
Then, this would be you, right?
Yeah, thatâs me and Kis as Ventus.
Hi there!
I have been busy and sick and busy again! So no activity here sorry but I finished Sora in time for Desucon Frostbite! I didnât get many proper pictures of him âcause there was no good place to shoot. Anyway have a picture of me and Teppo The Chocobo.
Looking for cosplay blogs to follow.
If you have a cosplay [side]blog that is exclusively (or almost exclusively) costume progress/photos/tutorials, tell me its name! It doesnât matter what skill-level youâre at or what fandoms youâre in or anything; all we care about is that the blog is very âon topicâ/cosplay-focused.Â
I want to fill our dash with lots of cosplay progress. We will check out and likely follow whatever we get :)Â
Recs are good too.
?
All my peeps with cosplay-only blogs reblog this!
In between of making a dress for a costumer I have been working on these. So they are shoes for Halloween Town Sora from Kingdom Hearts II. I thought that they would be one of the most difficult and time consuming part of the costume but I finished them SO fast.
I aim to make Sora for Desucon Frostbite in January.
Kitacon is over! I got few pictures of Senjougahara. The costume is so comfy that Iâll definitely use it in the future. Also I would like to have proper pictures taken.

Whoop! Whoop! New cosplay in the making! Out of the blue I got the idea to make Senjougahara Hitagi from Bakemonogatari. I like the school uniform a lot and Senjougahara is so prettey~~~~~ The costume is almost complete already! And next week is Kitacon where I get to wear it <3
âBehold! I have created a thing!â
Us cosplayers, especially in this age of social media, are kind of almost forced to put ourselves and our work out there for everyone to see. No oneâs actually forcing us to do it, but peer pressure is not just something teachers and other adult humans tell you about to stop you from doing stupid stuff.
We share things online with our followers, because on some level, we want someone to tell us that weâre actually achieving something.Â
If we truly only made stuff for ourselves, we would be more than happy to just look at ourselves in the mirror and snap a selfie. But instead we share our stuff with complete strangers - or âfollowersâ as we often refer to them, like weâre some bizarre cult leaders, standing in the middle of a crowd, holding up a photograph of a half-finished costume and yelling âBehold! I have created a thing!â
And so we put ourselves out there, we share pictures of our faces and our costumes, or pictures weâve taken, or videos weâve filmed. We do this for a multitude of reasons, and whether it is because weâre really proud of what we do or because weâre seeking validation, or maybe even looking for constructive criticism, one or more of the following things is bound to happen:
No one says anything.
Weâve all been there. You post something youâve made, or thought about, or seen, and you get a grand total of one like from that one strange person on the other side of the world who never comments but always likes everything you post. And thatâs it. You feel like the metaphorical tree, falling all alone in a forest with no one to see or hear. Do you really exist?Â
Thereâs not actually much to say about this, ironically. Your work just didnât really impress anyone, or Facebook really is being weird again with the whole reach thing, or you posted at a time when no person on the planet is online. Itâs not a big deal, either way, because you like what you made, right? You wouldnât have posted it if you didnât, right? Itâs not like youâre only posting stuff to see those magical numbers go up and the âPerson X liked your pageâ notifications to pop up, right? RIGHT?Â
⌠Either way, itâs not the end of the world. Trust me.
Someone says something negative.Â
You worked so hard to make something and a person on the internet doesnât think it looks good. Or thinks your face looks squished in. Or that youâre an attention whore. And it hurts. You worked hard on this stuff. You wanted to share your work and someone decides to throw poo in your face. How is that fair? Didnât they teach manners in whatever school this person went to?
Now, Iâm not saying this doesnât suck. Iâm just saying that it doesnât necessarily suck as much as you think it does. If multiple people constantly bombard you with completely uncalled-for negative comments, thatâs called bullying and harassment and that truly is a vile, evil thing of them to do, and I donât think anyone could really just shake it off (and now I have Taylor Swift playing in my head; thanks, brain).
There is, however, the occasional disconnect on what is a negative comment and what is actual constructive criticism. And I do realise that saying this makes me sound like a seagull of the worst kind (I mostly lurk, fyi), but bear with me.
See, someone saying youâre ugly and that your costume sucks? Thatâs a negative comment. The best way to reply to it is probably not to do it at all. Just ignore it. Really. If you donât want to look at it, delete it. The comment brings nothing constructive to your life and itâs your page/blog/whatever, so do what you like.
Someone saying they donât agree on a choice youâve made while making a costume or telling you your face doesnât work, is sort of on the line between âdouchebagâ and âhas a point but lacks social graceâ. Because theyâre at least making an effort at being specific about what they donât like, but theyâre not exactly offering any tips on how to improve on it. They are, however, sort of starting a conversation, which offers you the perfect opportunity to ask them to elaborate. Which in turn means theyâll either actually provide you with their insight on how to improve your work, or theyâll just bugger off because oh sweet lord, someone noticed their grumbling.
Someone saying they donât agree with a choice youâve made and offering alternative options for doing what youâre doing is, actually, if only vaguely, constructive. Someone telling you you face looks squished in but that you could be able to work around that by getting better at the whole make up thing is a rather blunt way of giving feedback, but itâs feedback nonetheless.
Itâs your choice what to do with this vaguely and barely constructive commentary, really. If youâre not into it, itâs perfectly reasonable. If you, like me, were trained by the forces of blunt criticism (I have a degree in journalism, our feedback sessions were brutal), you may choose to take whatever bits of information you find hidden under all the salt in these comments and use them however you like.
Someone says something positive.Â
This is the goldmine. The treasure at the end of the rainbow. The basket of kitties and a litter of puppies. A group of fluffy little ducklings all happily waddling about, and doing that adorable little tail wag thing that makes your heart melt (seriously, itâs the cutest thing ever ok). You post something and someone tells you it looks great! You look great! You did good! Good job you! You did stuff! Youâre great! Or at least kinda nice! Go you!
Positive comments are nice, Iâm sure we can all agree on that. However, I do think that in a weird way, the same rules about a comment being constructive apply to both positive and negative comments. Itâs nice to hear someone thinks your work is nice, but thereâs not really all that much you can do with the information other than feel pleased for about five seconds.Â
Obviously we prefer hearing nice things to hearing mean things, thatâs only human, but the information value in âyouâre so prettyâ and âyouâre so uglyâ is equally low. But weâre still only tempted to delete one of these comments, and even if we do, itâll probably haunt us for days to come, when the other one is forgotten pretty much immediately.Â
Should you really care, either way?
What you do with the commentary revolving around your work is entirely up to you. Your reactions do say quite a lot about you, though Iâm not arrogant enough to make assumptions on what, exactly. If you truly are looking to improve your craft and arenât just out there to seek approval (which is totally fine, by the way, as long as you donât claim otherwise), you should definitely learn to listen.Â
Because, like one of my journalism teachers liked to say, âOthers may be right as well.â
