What was the point of this?
I have never understood the desire to resurrect Riku-Replica
I didn’t get it back in the forum days and I dont get it now. I know I rant a lot about how I would’ve written saving the Days & BBS characters and I could see someone becoming somewhat attached to this emo-puppet after playing ‘Chain of Memories’ so I won’t rant about why or how.
At this point there’s no reason to do so.
No, what I don’t understand is why they randomly/lazily brought the replica back in spirit only to just have him die again. They went through all this trouble to make up excuses to bring people back to life and they just have this one character decide to say “nah bro I’m good”?
This death makes no sense on two levels, one for the good replica and a second for this random evil replica.
For the good replica, him doubling down on dying makes no damn sense. They have a guy who can make bodies now. So long as you got a heart stuck the living plane, so long as you can get it into the replica body, it’ll become a person.
And yes, someone will likely comment “he didn’t know” which is a moot point. The writers, mainly Nomura, knew in advance that Even would turncoat. He had to know since this excuse was used to get Roxas a body.
Casting this one character to the side amidst reviving a good chunk of both the villains & heroes makes no damn sense. It’s the epitome of “I don’t want to deal with it” after going out of your way to deal with it for everyone else.
Why even bother at that point to drag him back into the story? It won’t make no fan of his happy to see him die again while everyone else is getting a revival.
They basically wasted this character. Nomura wouldn’t leave his original tragic but good story as is yet wouldn’t do anything with him afterward.
I just do not get it. I once made the joke he was too angst/emo to stay alive while Riku exists but that’s exactly what it seems like. Nomura, in all seriousness, wrote this boy too depressed to live while the real Riku exists.
That Replica preferred to die on that angsty hill due to how pointless this return was.
Just for the sheer sake of comparison, remember that Xion was revived solely because the organization found Vexen’s research notes. Roxas, somehow, summoned an empty vessel to the graveyard and escaped from Sora on his own.
But this boy? Nah fuck him apparently.
Then there’s this lil twat
But really, where/when did a Xehanort possessed replica even come from? The Riku-Replica was created after Ansem was gone and Xemnas wasn’t making any hosts.
And don’t even answer “young Xehanort or Ansem must’ve possessed him while traveling time” because that opens up a whole other can of worms.
If this angle was even possible then nothing Xehanort did in DDD or KH3 would’ve made sense. Why scrounge for bodies made in a lab or your past selves if you can just hop back a year or ten and get any host you desire?
Kh3 has a lot of broken logic in spots but going with this excuse would shatter it.
There’s also the idea that the replica had a replica Ansem but I’d really rather not think about that mess either. Especially since normal Riku-Replica in CoM nor the good one in KH3 showed signs of such a bizarre posession.
This poor character died three fucking times and two of those deaths make no fucking sense.
