â Jojo Moyes, Me Before You
Alexx- I know you're all about the Johnlock, but I know you've done at least one Mystrade rec list - so I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. My second favorite pairing is Greg/Molly, but it's deucedly hard to find fics where they're the main focus and not a background pairing. Would you be able to do a Mollystrade rec list where they're the main focus? Background Johnlock is of course ok. Please and thank you!!!
Hey honey! Sadly, I am not much of a Mollstrade reader myself, but I poked around and found some titles for you. Hope something here does the job! :)

âYeah. I donât know whatâs different about tonight â you in that suit, maybe? But honestly, I donât much care. All I know is that Iâm hoping you donât have anything planned for after this reception.â âPlans are rapidly beginning to solidify, actually,â he grits out. âWe only have to make it through another hour.â Molly focuses on breathing just a little harder than she needs to into his ear, and she can feel the shiver that goes through him â the shiver sheâs earned. âAnd then we can go home.â âOr⌠we could leave early.â
If Molly didnât have a one-track mind when it comes to matters of the heart, Iâm sure sheâd find Lestrade devastatingly attractive.
Louise Brealey, responding to someoneâs mention of Rupertâs line that Lestrade fancies Molly deep deep down.

Want To Grab A Pint?
So the internet kind of crapped out after I got a few of the things I had in my inbox answered so Iâm back to standing (which is making the muscle aches agonizing), but I wanted to get at least yesterdayâs cheer-up fic for @stbartshooper posted here today before I went back inside. Now, I had been asked to write a Mollstrade fic with the idea of âhow about something like molly and lestrade are friends to lovers trope thing? It starts as the two of them meeting up together to complain and relax at the bar and then it turns to a strong bond then then LOVE!!!!!!! and they are happy all the time okâ (though for the canon part of Series 1 through Series 2 they are not entirely happy, but the AU Series 3 they are). I want to give fair warning that thereâs talk of her and Moriarty and her sleeping with him and it not being something sheâs pleased about, that he lied to her about who he really was, so it that is something you find disturbing, you might want to skip this fic.
Want To Grab A Pint? - It all starts with the offer to grab a friendly pint together after work. What it leads up to is more than either of them ever expected.

âDr. Hooper, right?â
Molly looked up at the voice in her morgue. It was her first day and already she wasnât sure she wanted there to be a second. Sheâd had her fill of pushy detectives and the one who wasnât even a detective, attractive as he had been, had been an unmitigated arse. But this manâŚhe seemed kind. He had gentle eyes and a warm smile and he seemedâŚwell, decent. Still, best to be on her guard. âYes?â she said, a bit guardedly.
âDI Lestrade,â he said, holding out a hand. She held hers up, covered in a bloody glove, and he gave her a sheepish look. It was that look that caused her to relax. He really wasnât like the rest, which was rather a nice change of pace. âI, uh, came by to apologize for my consultant. Sherlock Holmes? He knicked my ID and tried impersonating me, and I should kick his arse for that three ways to Sunday. Not the best first impression one wants to make, even if I wasnât the one making it.â
She chuckled a bit at that. âOh, I caught it right away, donât worry. I politely but firmly told him when the real DI Lestrade came by then he could get his results.â She nodded towards the refrigeration unit. âDo you want them now?â
He glanced at his wrist. âItâs about time for your shift to end, isnât it?â
âOh, itâs fine,â she said. âYou need them. I donât mind.â
âWell, I do,â he said. âHow about you tell me over a pint at Ye Olde Mitre?â
She grinned at that. âIsnât that a bitâŚirregular?â
âSo is using Holmes as a consultant,â he said with a grin. âBut I wonât tell anyone if you donât.â
She laughed at that. âDeal.â
â
Molly rubbed the back of her neck. It had been a long day, and it didnât help that sheâd rather embarrassed herself in front of Sherlock. Again. She had a terrible habit of that. It was getting to be something of a sore spot in her life. But at least she had something to keep her occupied at the moment, these suspicious suicides that Sherlock was convinced were not suicides.
She heard the doors to the morgue open and then a moment later Greg hauled himself into her office, looking absolutely knackered. She winced, having seen the press conference that morning and saw the disaster that was. âYou look like you could use a drink,â she said.
âTry several,â he said, running a hand over his face. âWas he right? Itâs not suicide?â
She gave him a sympathetic look. âItâs looking like he is,â she said.
Lestrade groaned. âBloody hell.â
She got out of her chair and came over, sitting next to him on her desk next to where he was on the edge. âProviding nothing goes wonky tonight, and if she isnât going to rip your throat out, Viaduct Tavern? You need more than a pint.â
He nodded. âEven if she does, I donât care. Itâs not like weâre carrying on behind her back. I mean, I think she is behind mine, butâŚâ
She put an arm around his shoulders. âOh, Greg.â
He leaned his head against hers. âNo one wants to be married to a copper. Fact of life. Itâs the worst life to lead.â
âNo, thatâs just an excuse,â she said. âSheâs a cunt.â
âMolly!â he said, his tone shocked.
âWell, she is. Youâre a brilliant, loving, kind man. I knew that the minute I met you. And if she canât see it, sheâs an idiot.â
âThanks.â
â
âSo how was Dimmock?â Lestrade asked with a grin days after Molly helped Sherlock out with a case involving Chinese assassins, or at least thatâs what sheâd read according to Johnâs blog. That was how she found out the particulars of the cases her autopsies were involved in when Sherlock was part of a case, which was rather fascinating. She was becoming quite the fan.
âDecent, I suppose,â she said, picking up her pint at Magpie and Stump. Sheâd wanted a decent ale and a good meal because it had been a frustrating day and Greg had said he had known just the place. He had a surprising gift for picking good places for them to get their pints at, sheâd found. They were often the highlight of her week. âHow was your break from Sherlock?â
âDelightfully refreshing,â he said with a grin. âI like him, I am thankful for the help he gives, donât get me wrong, but he can be an unmitigated arse sometimes.â
âThough he has his moments,â she said, looking down.
Greg was quiet for a moment. âYou really do fancy him, donât you?â he said.
âItâs silly, isnât it?â she said, turning red.
âI donât think itâs silly,â he said. âI just donât want to see you hurt. Youâre a good woman, Molly. Honestly, youâre a better woman than Sherlock could ever hope to deserve. I mean, youâre a better woman than I could ever hope to deserve and I think Iâve been a pretty good bloke.â
She looked up, grinning at him. âYou really think so?â she asked.
He nodded. âDonât hang all your hopes up on Sherlock,â he said. âTry and be with someone who makes you happy. You deserve that, you really do.â
She leaned over and kissed his cheek. âThanks, Greg.â
â
She felt horrid. She had scrubbed herself raw under the hottest shower she could stand when Sherlock told her and yet she didnât really think she could get clean. Oh, he had fooled her and she felt soâŚsoâŚ
She didnât know who else to call so she had dialed Greg. He had been at home and she could hear his wife harping in the background but heâd said heâd be over in a minute. He had shown up quickly and sheâd wondered if heâd put sirens on, and as soon as he was there she couldnât stand to be at her home. Heâd waited for her to get dressed in proper clothing and bundled her off in his car to The Fence and gotten her the strongest drink they had and led her out to the garden area. He hadnât had to ask why; she was sure Sherlock had filled him in on who Jim really was, and heâd put two and two together.
She was halfway done with her third drink when she finally spoke. âHe didnât have to shag me,â she said, her tone bitter.
Greg nodded, still on his first drink. âProbably all the better to twist the knife,â he said.
âIt was a dick move,â she said. âAnd it wasnât even a good shag!â
The corner of Gregâs mouth twitched. âSomehow that makes me feel better,â he said. He looked over at her drink. âIf I catch him, Iâll kick his arse for you. I donât think Sherlock will, not for that.â
âSherlock will never know,â she said adamantly. âNot from me, and not from you.â
âLips are sealed,â he said with a nod. He had some more of his drink. âIâll kick him in the bollocks first. With steel toed boots. Promise.â
âGood,â she said.
â
The call after doing Irene Adlerâs autopsy was unexpected. Sheâd just wanted to go home and curl up and have a good cry, but she held back her tears and answered it when she saw it was Greg. Heâd had a pretty miserable time at the party too, with Sherlockâs mean-spirited deduction. âHey,â she said.
âI donât know what pubs are open tonight at this time of night, but Iâm thinking we could both use a drink,â he said.
âDoubt anything is open now,â she said. âBut I have a nice stash of liquor at my place?â
There was a pause. âProbably not the best of ideas. Not that I wouldnât mind, but things could happen.â
That surprised her. âOh,â she said quietly. She hadnât thought he might think of her that way. She hadnât thought of him that way, not really. Notoften at least. He was Greg, he was her friend, one of her best mates. Maybe a fleeting thought every once in a while, but nothing more than that. But to know maybe he thought of her like that wasâŚinteresting. âDo you want to stop by the hospital and see whatâs open?â
âI could do that,â he said. âI mean, if you want to. You donât have to. I know Sherlockâs words hurt you pretty badly, and then to have to do the autopsy tonightâŚâ
âNo, a drink sounds like a good idea,â she said, her tone overly bright to hide any conflicting feelings she might be having. âIâll see you in a bit, okay? Out in front of the hospital?â
âAll right. See you soon,â he said before hanging up. She lowered her mobile, looking at it. This could be interesting, if it went anywhere. He was a good man. Sheâd have to wait and see.
â
Oh, she hated keeping this secret, she did. She wanted to tell him, to ease his pain and guilt, but she couldnât. Damn Sherlock for putting her in this position.
The pints had slowly lessened in frequency before stopping altogether. It had been a long time since sheâd spent time with Greg outside of her functions as a pathologist on loan to Scotland Yard. And she missed it, she did. Sheâd started a relationship with someone to get her mind off the burden she carried but really, even she could see he was just a substitute for Sherlock and really, it was kind of pathetic.
She stared at her mobile, tapping the corner on her desk. She missed Greg. It had hit her out of the blue this morning how much she missed talking to him, how much she missed just being around him. And she was resolved to do something about it. She wasnât sure he would accept a call, butâŚperhaps a text?
She was just starting to tap out a message when he doors opened and in walked the man himself. âGreg!â she said, surprised. âDo I have a body of yours?â
He nodded. âLeticia Harrison,â he said. âIt was thought to be a drowning but it looked suspicious?â
âI can get you the results right away,â she said, glancing at the clock on the wall. Five minutes till the end of her shift. âMaybe we can go over them at Ye Olde Mitre?â
She watched as a smile formed at the corner of his mouth, slowly spreading upwards. âYeah, I think I would like that. Itâs a bit unorthodox, but Iâve been told Iâm kind of an unorthodox DI.â
âThatâs a good thing to hear,â she said, her heart feeling lighter for the first time in ages.
â
They were at The Fox and Anchor celebrating Sallyâs promotion to Detective Inspector and the mood was rather joyful. Molly was quite happy for her friend and Greg was equally happy for his protegee, and after a time the two of them moved away from the hubbub and found a cozy place to sit with a bit more privacy.
âDid you ever think this day would come?â she asked, taking a sip of her pint before setting it down on the table.
âI did, yeah,â he said with a nod, glancing over at Sally. âSheâs bright and determined. I was just worried the taint with Sherlock would have ruined things, but she proved herself. She deserves it.â He took a sip. âToo bad Philip went off the deep end.â
âThat was a shame,â she said quietly. She knew he was right, but she also knew she had to change the subject. âYou know, congratulations to you, too. Youâre officially a single man again.â
He lifted up his left hand, looking at his ringless finger. âFeels a bit strange.â
âBut good?â she asked.
He nodded. âYeah. Feels good.â He hesitated a moment, then reached over with his hand for one of hers. âIt might feel better if I wasnât alone, though.â
She was surprised for a moment, and then threaded her fingers in between his. âI donât think you have to be alone, Greg. I can think of someone who would like to enjoy your company on a more regular basis.â
âWould her name start with Doctor and end with Molly Hooper?â he asked, a wide grin on his face.
She laughed. âOh, that is so corny,â she said, hanging her head. Then she looked up at him, wide grin on her face. âBut yes, it would.â
âThen it worked brilliantly.â
â
Molly had been invited to go to The Old Red Cow with a few mates from work and theyâd said to invite her boyfriend, too. Boyfriend. She got a wide grin on her face every time she got to refer to Greg in that way, or someone else referred to him in such a way. It was amazing how ecstatic such a simple term made her feel.
Theyâd stayed there with pints until the bar was nearly closing, talking about nearly everything under the sun, with her curled up against Greg as the crowd sheâd come with slowly started to dwindle. It had been a pleasant evening and sheâd had a grand time, but she didnât want it to end. And soon it was last call, and they were the only ones left.
âI suppose we should head out,â he said, looking over at her.
âWe could go to my place,â she suggested tentatively. âI mean, if you donât think thatâs too forward.â
âAre you sure?â he asked.
She nodded. âI would like that. Do you have to go to work tomorrow?â
âNot unless someone gets killed and I get picked to go,â he said.
âSo youâll be there in the morning?â she asked.
He leaned in and kissed her softly. She liked the way he kissed her, with all the tenderness in the world, but with an underlying hint of passion that left her wanting more, hoping that when the passion exploded it was overwhelming and breathtaking. Somehow she doubted she would be disappointed as this kiss took her to the very edge and inched her further than she had been with him before. When they pulled apart, he rested his forehead against hers. âI suppose we should head back to your flat now,â he said.
âOkay,â she replied.
â
There were plans to meet John and his new girlfriend at The Paternoster, but she was so very tempted to cancel and stay in bed with Greg all day. It wasnât very often they got a day off together, even in the last nine months that theyâd been dating. But no, she would be a good friend because John seemed quite serious about Mary and she really wanted to meet her.
She roused herself in bed to see Greg looking down at her with a smile. âWhat time is it?â she asked, stretching slightly.
âHalf past four,â he said.
Her eyes widened. âBloody hell, weâre supposed to be there in a half hour!â she said.
âI already told John weâll be late,â he said, moving his hand. It was only then she registered there was something in his hand. An open ring box.
An open ring box with an engagement ring in it.
She sat up more and looked at the beautiful diamond and amethyst ring set in silver lacework with wide eyes before looking at him. âGregâŚâ
âThereâs this great quote I heard once from Dostoyevsky. âYou will burn and you will burn out; you will be healed and come back again.â And I think thatâs us. Maybe we were healed and able to come back again because of each other.â He plucked the ring out of the box and slid it onto her finger. âMolly, please say youâll marry me. You would make me the happiest man in the world if you would.â
âIâŚâ she said, not sure what to say.
âIf itâs about Sherlock, his brother already told me heâs alive,â he said. âSo just say yes.â
She blinked, and then gave him a wide smile. âYes! Absolutely.â
âGood,â he said with a grin of his own.
â
The engagement party was held at The Williamsons Tavern, and the unexpected guest of honour was Sherlock, whoâd arrived back a few days prior. It had helped that Greg knew he was alive when heâd proposed, that she hadnât had to keep it a secret any longer, but no one had actually expected him to show up out of the blue.
John had grumbled a bit that theyâd stolen the thunder of his own engagement, though Sherlockâs arrival in London had mucked that up as well, but to be quite honest, Molly was so happy she didnât mind. She honestly felt like she was on cloud nine, like she was walking on air. For the first time in ages she felt as though all was right in her world, and it was all Gregâs doing.
After mingling with everyone and enjoying good food and good ales and spirits, Greg cleared his throat to get everyoneâs attention. Their friends were all taking up the outdoor seating at the establishment, and so there was some ambient noise, but it was all right. âItâs been a long time coming since the first time I stepped into Barts morgue to apologize for a certain consultant trying to sully my name by being an arrogant arse and ruining what could have been my first impression, but here we are, years later, engaged to be married,â he said. âAnd I couldnât be happier.â
He looked down at her and she looked back up, and she saw the same gentle eyes and warm smile sheâd seen all those years ago, but with love radiating there as well. âI love you, Margaret Adeline Hooper, and I will love you for the rest of my days.â
âIâll love you that long, too,â she said, and she meant every word.

It only takes one look at Molly holding baby Watson for Greg to realize what he really wants.
