I feel like Akira would move out of his parents’ house and into an apartment with Hikaru and his parents would try to be like “it’s okay…love is love” and Akira would just flat out deny it and say they just live together to practice go more. And then Hikaru and Akira would go on vacation together and Akira’s parents would try to approach the issue again and Akira would deny it again. And then finally Akira’s dad comes over for coffee one morning and Akira is literally wearing one of Hikaru’s tacky-ass shirts but when his dad tries to point that out Akira just flat out lies that he’s always owned this shirt.

Hikaru no go is a sorrowful story about grief and the loss of childhood that pretends to be a light-hearted sports shounen and it always makes me want to bang my head into a wall. AUGH hikaru...that smiling child vanished somewhere into that solitary room. What are you supposed to do when the person who was so important to you that it devoured your life just leaves. To everyone else Hikaru suddenly became a lonely person who would look at the game he loved with such sad eyes. auugjggbbg hikaru
