Sting&Laxus #1 Fan Account

Rogue is… fine? I love Sting a lot and that unfortunately outshines Rogue for me, but we know that whenever Mashima creates a deep and potentially interesting character he then proceeds to ignore them.

The Future Rogue arc was great and I’m kind of pissed we didn’t really have much context about what happened previously to that and we just got the usual “Natsu beats up the villain with the power of friendship” bullshit and blah blah we know this.

So, it’s not that I don’t like Rogue, it’s just that he was looked over by the author because he needed a villain his mary sue could beat up and we didn’t really have much to work with when it came to characterizing him.

And that’s why most of the times, in fanfictions or in general, the fans really mischaracterize him and basically turn him into Sting’s pet.

I’ve already mentioned a few in one of my previous posts, I mostly don’t create ship content nor do I consume it since it’s not my cup of tea unless it’s angst and it involves numerous characters

I don’t think I have a favorite ship but there are some that I enjoy more than others but they’re mostly rarepairs so I’m not gonna mention all of them lol

One of my favorites is Graylu, I enjoy it way more than Nalu lol sorry not sorry. I’m so tired of Nalu man.

I like Lolu. We were robbed of them.

These are the ones I like the most I think? As I said, I ship a lot of rarepairs and I don’t really consume ship content because 1. It’s very hard to find any kind of content for most of the ships I like and 2. It’s hard for me to get really invested in a ship

I shortly summarized why i don’t like Jerza a while back

Gajevy is kinda boring and it developed forcefully and out of nowhere, one day Gajeel was hanging the team shadow gear to a tree and the next day Levy had already forgiven him and was crushing on him like girl stand up

+ I hate how Levy’s character went from being important in the earlier seasons and actually having a personality to being reduced to a love interest once Mashima decided to pair her up with Gajeel for some reason

As for Nalu, it’s not that i don’t like them, I just can’t see them as more than friends. This may be a little petty but i think the two main protagonists of a manga about friendship shouldn’t end up together in the end. Kinda crushes the whole point lmao

And then there’s Gruvia man…

They could’ve handled it way better if they’d just put in the effort. Instead, we got the obsessed stalker trope… and apparently everyone’s ok with that. Sigh.

“It’s canon now” i don’t care, being canon doesn’t make something immune to criticism and saying that Gruvia is just straight up bad writing is common sense i fear

Juvia’s character’s only purpose is to be in love with Gray. No other personality trait whatsoever. Take her out of the story and nothing would really change except for some of the ‘comic relief’

Mashima literally had to force Gray’s personality into doing a 180 in 100yq for him to start liking Juvia

My favorite ‘popular’ ship with Gray is Graylu; I like Gratsu too but not that much for it to be one of my favorites

You asked for Laxus too, but I don’t like any of the popular ships involving him. I don’t see the point in Miraxus even existing except for the amount of heteronormativity in this fandom, and Fraxus doesn’t really do it for me. They’re cute tho

I think at this point everyone’s aware of how amazing Sting’s character is. At least I hope so.

My issue is that this great and full of potential character is belittled and poorly developed by his own author.

Everything started going downhill after the Natsu VS Sting & Rogue fight during the GMG, honestly. I hope everyone can agree that fight was one of the worst, if not the worst fight of the whole series.

Sting is a complex character with emotional and psychological depth but no one seems to give a fuck about that and the fandom (and Mashima himself, honestly) just keeps portraying him as the over-friendly idiot Guild Master who cannot say anything without dickriding Natsu every two sentences.

But the point is, Sting literally is the better version of Natsu. He cares deeply for his guild mates and friends, he’s fun and sure of himself but not in the obnoxious way Natsu is, he expresses his insecurities and doubts about not being good enough as Master despite him being very confident in his abilities, and that just shows you how much more psychologically developed he is.

And all of that goes to waste, because every time Mashima writes a good character he doesn’t know what the fuck to do with them.

Sting’s magic is holy, divine, centered around light and purity, yet it gets downplayed as “oh yeah he can eat white things lol” ???

“White Dragon Slayer” does not make any fucking sense bro. Why not just make him the Holy Dragon Slayer? Was that so hard?

I hate how he’s thought of as ‘dumb’ by the majority of the fandom. He’s not fucking dumb. He’s smart and capable. His strategy on the last day of the GMG was solid and he could’ve easily won the games but of course Fairy Tail has to always get everything.

And apparently everyone keeps forgetting that he fucking killed a man?? He literally murdered Jiemma. Something that has rarely happened in this manga. He took his place as Guild Master by executing him and putting an end to his tyranny. Something as deep and impactful as that gets completely shadowed in order to make Fairy Tail look good. It’s not fair.

And the fact that he seemed so chill about Future Rogue murdering him? I think that should’ve at least created some tension between him and Rogue because it’s just normal. Instead, Sting’s thoughts about that whole situation aren’t even addressed. Which is infuriating, considering that he’s a major part of it.

Sometimes I wish I could just rewrite this whole fucking manga myself.
