“Oh for God’s sake, Jerry! How the hell was I supposed to know it was haunted?? It’s a freaking serving dish!”
“Well why do we even need another serving dish, Maureen?? We have 10!!!”
“None of them match the good china! Not that it matters, it’s not like we have dinner guests anymore!”
“I work, Maureen!! What do you do all day, huh? Buy useless crap that has a ghost in it???”
“Uh….guys,” said the ghost. Hovering between the arguing couple, Clara was starting to have doubts about this haunting business.
“It wouldn’t be useless if you didn’t sit in your underwear drinking beer and watching tv all night! Maybe we could have somebody over for a change!”
“Oh like who? The Robinsons? So they can whine at us about “not their president” and how those gays down the block should be allowed to get married!”
“Oh for Christ’s sake, Jerry! Maybe you could try to keep your fat mouth shut for one dinner party?”
“Woah, okay!” said Clara. "Ghost here, remember?" She was still pretty new at this, but she was fairly certain this wasn't how it was supposed to go.
“Oh right, and let those snowflakes walk all over us??”
“This! This is why the kids don’t talk to us anymore, Gerald!!”
“Oh sure, it’s MY fault! It’s always my fault, isn’t it, Maureen?! It couldn’t possibly have anything to do with you and that debacle at Johnathan’s wedding!”
“Don’t you start with that, Gerald! I was TRYING to protect our son!”
“Uh...you know what? I’m just gonna....I’m gonna go,” said Clara, hovering toward the door.
“Protect our son from ever leaving the house, you mean?”
“She was a hussy, Gerald, and you know it!!!”
“You guys, uh...you guys sound like you need a minute. So I’ll just be...I’ll….yeah.” Clara slid through the door awkwardly and sighed.
“Maybe I’ll go haunt the Robinsons,” she said.
