When I started really getting in to GW2 in a serious way it was actually because I decided to look for the game’s tag on tumblr. I saw screenshots and RP logs and even a tumblr based guild. I joined [BRUH] after a few weeks of thinking about it, and I have no regrets.

I’ve met people who have come to be very good friends of mine. People I talk with every day, and help me not feel as alone as I usually did. People who get it if I need a few days of doing nothing, to recharge my batteries. People who encourage me to play according to my own style, whether it’s meta or not.

I used to be terrified of fractals, because people took it so seriously. My friends convinced me to just try some of the lower level ones, even though I didn’t have a proper build and my gear made glass canons look tough. I died a few times, but I still had fun because nobody made an issue about a few goof ups on anyone’s part. 

I always figured getting ascended gear would be a pipe dream. Too costly for someone who didn’t really understand how to make money in the game. Today my fractal ele stands tall (for a sylvari) with ascended trinkets, accessories, back item, chest, and leggings. My friends took the time to help me understand agony resistance, and in the space of 4 months I’ve gone from no AR to 79 AR.

We’ve also covered almost every dungeon path in the game, often short manning things out of a sense of impatience or challenge. (For the record, 3 minion master necros and 1 ele can pretty much melt everything in Ascalonian Catacombs embarrassingly fast.)

I never understood what the fascination with Super Adventure Box was until I hopped in there with a couple of friends and we laughed and shrieked our way through both worlds.

I know that the salt can be a lot to deal with some days, but GW2 is so much more than its faults. It’s a place to make friends and memories. A place to connect with people and get out, even if you’re stuck indoors with bad weather. A place where you can accumulate inside jokes and butcher memes and throw puns in guild chat just to see people groan.

I keep coming back to GW2 because it’s a good place. Not perfect, but still good.
