I really miss having a close friend that I can practice astral projection with.

My partner is an incredible magician but since he has aphantasia, it can be difficult to do visualization and astral work with him. We have definitely had successes in the past, but I generally feel bad trying to talk him into doing this kind of work with me.

When I was a kid, like late-elementary to early-middle school age, I had one friend where we would ‘go to another plane’ to play around and do things like get coffee or visit amusement parks before going to sleep during sleepovers. It was exhilarating being able to do so many things from the comfort of our beds and while I didn’t have to vocabulary for it at the time, I knew we were onto something pretty profound. Unfortunately, she didn’t end up having the same excitement I had for it and we dropped it from our sleepover routine but I never found another friend who wanted to go on these adventures with me.

While I may not have found someone to travel with, I want to share what worked for me as a child in hopes it may help some of you with your astral journeys.

This is my second comment on the Serenitean codes from http://serenitism.webs.com

When I first thought about writing this, I had trouble convincing myself to.  This is something that is hard for me, because I am pretty shy.  Often, when I meet someone new, I would like it if they did not notice me.  I don’t think that trying not to be noticed is the same as treating someone as a friend.

But then I started thinking about what this code actually means.  I broke it down by word.  Each word adds to how I can understand this code better and see if it is something I can do for my my Serenitism, that will make life better.  The result was very grammar-nerdy, but the upshot is that I determined that the statement applies to meeting someone for the first time and then generally, until they become familiar to you.  And “treat” refers to the way you behave towards or interact with a person.  “As a friend” could be describing them, or describing your treatment of them.  Since friendship is reciprocal, it works to assume both.

So if you behave towards a person as if they are a friend, does that mean you are obligated to do what they want?  When someone is my friend, I assume they have my best interests in mind.  And when I am someone’s friend, I have their best interests in mind.  In addition, I give friends the benefit of the doubt, and assume that they will do the same for me.  I know personally, that friendship requires give and take though, and that because someone is my friend doesn’t mean that I will always be able to do for them, whatever it is they want and need, although I can assume that depending on the circumstances and their needs, I will do my best. 

This means that sometimes I will decline an invitation if I am too stressed out to enjoy company or being in public.  If my friends say no to spending time with me, I try to understand, because I know what it is like to need personal time and space.  Friends let each other be themselves and are not judgmental.  So maybe that means that when meeting others, I should be aware of my limits, and with that in mind, assume that the new person will want me to feel comfortable when interacting with them, although they may not know the best ways to help me to do that.  At the same time, I should do my best to try and make the new person feel good about themself too.  After all, friends might not always want to be together, but at the end of the day, they like each other and want each other to be happy.

I suppose that having their best interest at heart and giving them the benefit of the doubt, also extends to trying to help them if I can, and balancing their needs with my own in a healthy give and take.  Since give and take is also based on trust.  I think that a friend will understand if trust needs to be built before serious sacrifices should be made.  This code after all, applies to new people in our lives, not those who we know and trust already, or who have burned us in the past. 

Finally, I think that treating someone as a friend and giving benefit of the doubt probably means, trying not to make assumptions about them that could prove hurtful and get in the way of building trust.  The opposite of making assumptions is to listen to what they say and ask questions when in doubt.

In conclusion, I think that this code sums up a few different ways that I could be aware of the ways I approach new people.

-sincerely have their best interests at heart and do your best for them while keeping your own needs in mind

-give them the benefit of the doubt as to their best intentions for you (at least until their character is familiar to you)

-appreciate them for who they are

-listen to them and don’t make assumptions

This might be tough for me.  Giving the benefit of the doubt leaves a person open to disappointment, but it makes sense that approaching people this way would keep the door open for good experiences that would hopefully balance any bad ones.  We can’t eliminate bad experiences from life, and in trying we can refuse to take the risks that bring us good ones. If we don’t try we don’t succeed. I guess that is what it comes down to. 

- Sailor Moon - In honour of Usagi’s birthday today!

Sailor Moon, the reincarnation of Princess Serenity fighting as The Soldier of Love and Justice. Awakened for the first time in the 20th century by Luna, her guardian Moon cat, Sailor Moon did not exist before this incarnation. Usagi also lost the power to transform into Sailor Moon once she became Neo-Queen Serenity. The role was then passed to her daughter who became Sailor Chibi Moon.

Originally, the persona of Sailor Moon was made to continue to hide the identity of Moon Princess Serenity and the location of The Silver Crystal, much like Sailor Venus was doing while acting as Sailor V. In my studies, I also believe one of the true purposes for the role of Sailor Moon in the Moon Family is to mature them, and to teach them valuable life lessons first-hand through their experiences with other Sailor Soldiers.

Sailor Moon is the Healer of the Sailor Scouts, preferring to heal or purify her enemies rather than kill them. She believes that there is good within everyone, which is often taken advantage of and proves as a weakness towards some enemies. She is a symbol of purity overall, from her Holy Grail to Eternal Sailor Moon’s angel wings, her pure heart is often the source of her courage and power. She fights for peace, love, and true justice.

When working with Sailor Moon, you should consider the following things that she can help you with:

Healing - whether it be a broken heart, broken spirit, or some sort of personal ailment, Sailor Moon will send healing energies to you. (Please note that if it is a serious injury or prevailing mental illness you should still see your doctor for help!)

Self Purification - where I use Mars to purify my surroundings, Sailor Moon does a better job purifying your inner peace of mind, or your soul.

Curse Breaking - much like the above, if you believe something is wearing at you, like a curse, Sailor Moon will shine her light and destroy it.

Forgiveness - if you are holding on to a lot of old grudges or are  having a hard time forgiving someone/yourself, Sailor Moon will sit and listen to you.

Inner Strength and Self Confidence -meditating with Sailor Moon can really boost your inner confidence. She was unsure of her abilities as a Scout when she began, just like you may be unsure about your own life. But she assures you that you are a shining star and just need to find your own place in the sky.

Offerings and altar pieces for Sailor Moon can definitely include those that are previously listed for Princess Serenity, the only exception being to use pink and white candles instead of silver. Pop Culture items of Sailor Moon and her transformation items are highly recommended, and any food items that Usagi would like, such as cake and candies. I like to have clear quartz or diamond-like crystals (since diamonds are very expensive) on my alter for Sailor Moon as well, representing her Silver Crystal. Another stone I associate with Sailor Moon is Rhodochrosite, for it’s warm feelings of love and compassion. For Sailor Moon, I like to use very sweet smelling incense, or jasmine.

For fun, I looked up the language of flowers (what notions, ideas, feelings, etc. flowers symbolize) and decided to make a list of which flower I believe corresponds the best to the Senshi! These are all just my own interpretations; anyone else can add on with their own!

Usagi Tsukino: Orange blossom (Eternal love, innocence, loveliness )

Usagi’s most defining characteristic is her love. Love for her family, love for her friends, love for the entire universe. The notion of Sailor Moon herself being eternal is explored in the series (“Eternal” Sailor Moon, Mamoru’s comments at their wedding, Sailor Cosmos, etc). In addition, Usagi retains her innocence throughout the entire series; she never succumbs to despair or loses her morality.

Ami Mizuno: Iris (Wisdom and eloquence)

Like Usagi, Ami can be characterized by her wisdom and intelligence. It’s pretty self-explanatory!

Rei Hino: Azalea (Passion, temperance, womanhood)

Rei is passion personified. Everything she does, she does with a burning passion and intense enthusiasm and. She always fully devotes herself to any cause she is apart of. It’s no wonder why she’s called the Soldier of Passion! However (especially in the manga), she always carries the air of a true lady.

Makoto Kino: Yellow rose (Friendship and platonic love)

While some people may argue that friendship is more Usagi’s thing, I respectfully disagree. I think Mako shows an amazing aptitude for friendship and loyalty throughout the series. Because she’s an orphan who has had few friends, the ones she has are like family to her and she’ll protect and stand by them to the death. The warm feelings that are associated with the yellow rose are very similar to those same feelings shared with a true friend.

Minako Aino: Chrysanthemum (Optimism, joy, cheerfulness, a wonderful friend) 

NOTE: I am using the Western symbolism of chrysanthemums here. In Asia, they represent death and are usually only seen at funerals. However, I don’t think that fits such a vibrant flower so I went with the Western interpretation! :P

Minako is very bubbly and optimistic. We rarely see her wallow in the past or feel depressed. She’s constantly on the move, always on the lookout for her latest conquest or adventure. 

Chibiusa: Light pink rose (Joy of life, youth, energy)

I feel like this flower fits Chibiusa’s personality very well! She’s still quite young and inexperienced, but displays an infectious love of life and boundless energy, just like her mother. 

Setsuna Meioh: Heliotrope (Devotion)

In everything she does, Setsuna shows extreme devotion. She was fully dedicated to her role as the guardian of the Space-Time Door, never leaving her post and following the rules for countless years. In addition, she is shown to be extremely dedicated to her role as a Senshi and protector of Princess Serenity, as well as a confidante and protecter to Chibiusa. 

Haruka Tenoh: Sweet William (Gallantry, finesse, masculinity, perfection)

I feel like this flower fits Haruka perfectly! To me, Haruka conjures up images of a fairytale prince; dashing, gallant, and perfect. She is also the most masculine of the Senshi, even more so than Mako. 

Michiru Kaioh: Dahlia (Elegance and dignity)

Elegant. That’s the one word people most often use to describe Michiru. She seems to be elegance incarnate! Presumably coming from high class society, Michiru does everything with abundant grace and elegance, often leaving others in awe. Of course, she’s very dignified and noble as well. 

Hotaru Tomoe: Daffodil (Rebirth and new beginnings)

A charm to protect from ill will and evils

The screencap is technically before Saturn uses Silence Glaive Surprise, but it’s still technically Silence Wall at this point.

Materials:

small, light purple cloth; alternative: purple ribbon

red candle; alternative: white candle

Toothpick or other semi pointed object that can carve into wax (a fork would work)

Steps:

1. Lay the ribbon or cloth flat against a surface. You can put a piece of paper under it if you don’t want anything to get on that surface.

2. Light the candle and allow a good bit of wax to melt. While you are waiting, think only of protecting whatever it it you want protected: a room, a certain object, a specific person.

3. Once there’s enough wax melted, carefully and gently pour a little of it onto the cloth or ribbon. Allow that to harden and then do it one more time. You can make this as large or small as you’d like, just make sure there are no gaps in the wax.

4. Speak the following words

I call upon Saturn, keeper of the cycles of life and death I ask you to bring death to evils that target [me/other person/space/object] Consume them in your vast ruin Destroy them at my doorstep for all to see No ill intent, no malevolent action, no evil thought No person harboring these things towards [me/person/space/object] will pass this wall of silence

5. Slowly and gently carve the symbol for Saturn into the wax, deep enough to where you can see the cloth or ribbon below. Here’s the symbol for Saturn.

6. Say the following

By Saturn’s ruin, the death of evil brings hope

7. Blow out the candle if you haven’t already and place the cloth or ribbon in a prominent place where it will not be messed with. If you used a ribbon, you could incorporate it into a wreath or tie it around something on a shrine. A cloth could be used as an altar cloth or folded and placed in a dresser or on a bookshelf. “Hiding in plain sight” is the goal here.

Note: You can call on either the Senshi or the actual planet. It’s up to you.

Serenitist Spellcraft: A Serenitism Sending Off

[a solitary Serenitist ritual for those in mourning]

a dear friend of mine is in mourning- her grandmother and role model passed away recently, but she was unable to fly back to her family to join them in communal bereavement.  such a thing is hard enough to bear.. i was grateful for my family’s ability to bring me back home when the time came to send off my grandfather, so i couldn’t bear that pain upon her.

this ritual was written with her in mind.  its intentions was to be something that even a broke-ass wiccan like myself could do with ease.  as time goes on i’m sure there are more things that others can see to use and embellish the ritual, but as i always say: intent is everything.

So in my last post I briefly summed up the character of Sailor Moon, The Silver Lady of Serenitism, to help illuminate [hehe] the aspects of her character that are Divine and worth paying tribute to.  This post shall suggest ways to do that!  Again, please remember that these are simply my own thoughts and in no way should be considered ‘de facto’.  This is also your obligatory 'long post is LONG!’ warning~

Sailor Saturn/Tomoe Hotaru/Princess Saturn/‘Messiah of Silence’

part 2 of the Serenitism Pantheon

so I realized that i have actually been working with this particular Lady a lot recently!  i don’t know what exactly is drawing me to her on such a deep level, but i’m going to take this time to do a write up of her while i still feel inspired.

this will be done in a similar structure to my initial post about The Silver Lady/Sailor Moon, so: long post ahoy!

It’s coming up soon! I haven’t had time to write out anything specific yet, but March 6th is Michiru’s birthday. On the Serenitism calendar, that means it’s the Celebration of Art. As well as generally celebrating Sailor Moon and Michiru/Sailor Neptune, here’s some cool stuff traditional celebrations of Serenitism that you may partake in:

Visit your local art gallery, if you have one.

Check in the paper and online to see if any local artists are holding exhibitions nearby.

Be somewhere you can be calm, and appreciate the beauty of nature and your surroundings. In the spirit of Neptune, this should ideally be at the beach! Write down one thing you found that day that struck you as beautiful.

Get out some paints or pencils and draw a self-portrait, or a portrait of someone dear to you. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never drawn in your life; just look at the results and reflect on them. Think about which parts look the most like the subject and why they remind you of them. If you are an artist, try to do the portrait in a medium you are not familiar with.

Take lots and lots of photos! Consider taking a photo every hour and posting them on a blog when the day is done. Get at least one printed/developed and put it somewhere on display.

Eat Michiru’s favourite food: Sashimi! That’s raw fish. If you don’t feel confident preparing it yourself, a trip to a sushi restaurant may be in order.

Those are the celebrations I’ve got! Anyone have any more ideas / suggestions for celebrations for Neptune’s day?

Ohh, yes! That’s a great idea. Music is obviously a big part of art, I’m sorry I didn’t think of it.

Play music throughout the day. Try for violin music if you’ve no other preference.

Try listening to a genre of music you haven’t heard much of, or don’t particularly like. Listen to a wide variety of songs to get a better understanding of the genre, and listen with an open mind.

If you see any buskers when you’re out and about today, give them some change. Even if they’re terrible. Just support them.

Make a trident or a fancy mirror talisman. Arts and crafts, and their third sibling practicality.

Mirrors should definitely play a big part, too. Put a mirror where you spend a lot of time and don’t normally have one, so you can catch yourself when you don’t expect to, and see yourself how others will see you.
