Something I’ve said multiple times to my partner but not online is that queer stories cannot be told in a “normal” way. They cannot be told in the way cishet stories are. There has to be an element of fiction, be it fantasy, horror, magic, supernatural… because that’s just how being queer feels. Leviticus and I Saw the TV Glow do queer experiences exceedingly well, because that’s the only way you can truly convey those feelings, through horror. Same goes for queer love stories, there’s a lot more gravity and depth to those situations than a cishet romance. This isn’t saying cishet stories or romances aren’t beautiful because they can be, but there are more complexities to a queer stories.
